Potty chair recommendations, please?

I'm getting ready to get my son a potty chair, because he is starting to show interest (yay!) in the potty. I was just looking at them online, and I can't believe how many choices there are.
Does anyone have a recommendation? One that you liked, or didn't like? Any particular features I should look for?
Thanks!!

I don't go too much on the features except practical aspects. It should be easy for the kids to transition from a potty to the toilet seat. That's my main aim and I always look for something similar..and never bought a seat that can be used outside the toilet for any of my kids.
I have one that is a smaller toilet seat that fits into the regular toilet seat (I have given a picture in one of your previous discussions on this topic)....and I found that my older son was completely potty trained by 1.5 years and my 14 month old is almost there (though he did give me a hard time at first about sitting on it...I was just persistant without forcing).

oh I'm sorry...it wasn't your discussion...but it was one on potty seats and just a few days back..that's why I was confused. I now remember it wasn't your discussion...and since you know what I mean...I don't need to post the picture either.
Though both my sons would watch their dad use the toilet, they wanted to do it on the same thing....never wanted to do it together...so it worked for me. And I have to add that I am the primary care giver of both my kids...so the times they would want to do it with daddy (if they did) would be considerably less than the other times they used it.

I see what you are saying, and I like the idea of a seat right on the toilet, but I think he might do better if he can stand alongside daddy and they can do it together.
I don't recall a picture or another discussion on this topic, at least not one of mine. But I know the kind you are talking about. Thanks.

I didn't see any musical ones. That sounds interesting. Thanks.

My middle child was the hardest to train but my other two it was mainly "look, do this" and they did. So for him what I had was a regular old white one in the main room of the house. Since we spent most our days in the living room I just let hom go bottomless with a long t shirt and had the potty right there for quick access. Each successful time I would move it a bit closer to the bathroom. Finally it got in there and then to the toilet. I do like sticker incentives and super praise but just a regular standard "affordable" one worked fine for us.

I am definitely for 'affordable.' I saw some that were over $100! I can't imagine paying that much for a potty chair. I am definitely going basic, but even among those there are differences. I don't think I really need any bells and whistles, though. Thanks.

My 13 month old daughter uses the same potty chair that my son used 8 years ago. It is just a basic potty chair with no special features. It gets the job done. I do wish it was a little easier to get the bowl out to dump though. Two weeks ago my daughter used the one at my brothers house. It is a little seat that is inside a regular seat and it folds down when a small child needs to use it. She thought it was great, so when she gets a little more serious about it I might get her one of those.

I ended up getting a small seat to go on the regular toilet, instead of a potty chair. We have a foot stool in the bathroom, so he can climb right up. The potties I looked at had the pot so far back that he would have missed half the time!

With both my girls I had just a simple chair with a removable bowl. It does have a tray you can use to make them stay there but I never used this.
The chair was great as I could have it always close by and to a certain extent they could easily get on themselves.
I say only to a certain extent as they did have a little trouble to start with. They were both small and the bowl has a big lip on it that made it tricky.
My best recommendations for a potty are one that the child can use themselves so it needs to be rather stable. It is important that their feet have something to rest on (makes it easier for number 2's) so if you get an attachment for your normal toilet make sure it has a platform.
Have you seen the target stickers you can get for boys to help them aim? I love this idea and to me this would be one of the highlights of boys!
Good luck, I know how exciting it feels, my little one is just out of nappies and it rocks!

Yeah, there are targets to put in the toilet. I've also been told to use Cheerios. That will be fun!

I am intrigued by the cheerios....I can't see how they can be of use, let me know how it works! :)
I know everyone says not to force the issue and to a certain extent that is true, but I know so many people who have managed to get it done in like a week just by being super, super constant once that bit of interest has first been shown.

I'm glad, too. He's interested now that he's just watching. We'll see what happens when I actually ask him to use it.
