I am an Indonesian from tribes "Manadonese". We eat hot and spicy food, more "hot n spicy" than any other food i ever tried (even the most hot n spicy Korean food). My mom even cooks for me dabu-dabu roa, a sauce made by more than 100 long red hot chili and 15 big tomatoes, few unions and garlic, Indonesian spicy powder, and special dried fish, that found only in Manado city market near the beach, and its called as "ikan roa". Ikan roa is a small tuna that has more bones and smells delicious when its being cooked. Those ingredients are mixed and make it really that "sauce". I like to eat "dabu-dabu roa" with hot rice and my drink is hot red tea. When that food is reach my mouth, i close my mouth and let the hot and spicy sensation full my mouth to head... its sounds crazy! But its very... very... great delicious... For me, nothing can compare with the sensation eating hot and spicy food... its just... GREAT!!! Any one here, have you tried hot and spicy Indonesian food? I heard Thailand and Malaysian have hot and spicy food also... Wanna try someday!

I don't usually like food that's really hot...I prefer a little spice...not bland, but not burn my mouth and tear up hot either. I don't know if I've tried any Indonesian dishes. I made some kimchee recently...it's got a lot of bite but at least doesn't give me heartburn.

I am from Malaysia and I do take spicy hot food daily. From the ingredients you mentioned, the dabu-dabu roa sauce and the ikan roa really sound delicious and wonderful. They make my mouth watery. I have never tried them before and I hope I could have chance to taste them. The paste is quite similar to our local paste, sambal. End of last year I had visited Bali but only Chinese food were served in the restaurant there. I had tried the Indonesian prawn curry and friend noodle and both of them are quite delicious. Nasi lemak (coconut milk rice) is the most popular food in my country with selective spicy hot ingredients. I do like very much the Thailand tomwam prawn soup which is hot spicy and sour.

It sounds familiar for me:) Of course, I am from the same tribe like you. Without hot and spicy food the world is not spicy enough.. I really like 'rica roa (or dabu-dabu roa)' too. When I went to Manado, I usually eat it. I miss it a lot, cause I have lived in Jakarta for 18 years. Of course I can buy it at Jakarta, but the taste is very different.
