I will go hiking with others. Besides that though, I'd rather exercise alone or maybe with someone who was just as uncoordinated as me. I guess this is why I don't care for gyms.

Hi blademaiden,
I am sorry because I have to call it silly. You are exercising for yourself, let it be jogging, aerobics or pilates and remember looking foolish and uncoordinated are your feelings. Even if somebody expresses, you should ignore because you need not please them.Do it in front of other people and let your feelings go - one day you will be alright.
Good Luck.

I do yoga at home but somehow I feel uncomfortable if anybody else is there,I am unable to concentrate on my asanas(yogic exercises)..if I need to learn any new asana then I do with other people under one roof who are all in the process of learning.

i feel you girl! I just started exercising and we have comcast ondemand so there is a section from exercise tv that I use to workout with. Our tv is in the living room in front of a huge window so there's either someone else in the room or I am worried about people seeing me from outside. If there are dance like moves then I won't do it. It's kind of sad cause I feel like I am missing out but I am just too self conscious!!

I cannot exercise in front of people, not even my husband, I am just so self conscious about myself and have absolutely no confidence at all. I have to exercise totally on my own.

I used to be like that I felt so self conscious but as I got older, it doesn't bother me as much.
Now mirrors I hate, I do yoga and altho it's good to check your position, it's very much a quick glance just to see that a leg or arm is straight.

I am with you. I am uncordinated and overweight and cannot possbily compete with all the slim women at these gyms. I want to exercise but by myself so no one can laugh at my attempts but myself. Glad to know someone else feels the same way.
