Do you have an opinion? Do you stand firm?

Its not so much discussions that I respond to, but rather discussions that I post. I will start out with an idea or complaint and after reading member's comments will often have to back up and re-evaluate the topic and my opinion on it. For the most part the people here have taught me to see the bigger picture and that my opinion is certainly not the only opinion and that there might be more than meets the eye when people post something I may not agree with.

I am a person who is willing to listen to another side of an argument. Unlike my ex-husband who years ago would argue with anyone and insisted he was always right. I believe if we know something about an issue we should inform people of the facts as we know them. I also believe there are always different opinions about an issue. To me the key to being informed is to listen to each side and learn.

I agree information is crucial in an opinion. So you are saying you on occasion can admit "you stand to be corrected" ? I tend to be the one who can be swayed if someone has a strong enough point. But, have regretted a few times, allowing someone to change my point of view.

Yes, if the information is sufficient and provable I will be willing to admit my judgement was wrong. On the other hand, I may not always be right but I am never wrong! Sorry, couldn't resist.LOL!

Good Afternoon o2bfree :))) I pretty much stand strong and stand my ground. I may choose to soften the words I write depending on the passion I have for any particular topic. But I am not wishy washy. I say how I actually feel. There are however certain topics that I straddle the fence on in my opinion but I state that as well. Its not a matter of not wanting to choose a side, it really is a matter of not having enough information to draw an intelligent conclusion.

Hello there whispery one.....thank you for the comment ; )
I assumed you would be the "type" to not be wishy washy. And yes agreed information, if studied can help with an intelligent conclusion. However there are always perceptions involved...which a whole other topic to discuss...LOL
Hope you are well Doll!

Think anyone can be swayed...the most important thing is to keep ones mind open..this way if you don't agree with something, you can at least give it some thought, reflection.
Many times I have thought I had something spot on..only to realazie down the line I was incorrect in my perception.I find a whole lot of what I once accepted I have thrown to the billy Oh,and some things I had considered correct I have since thrown out. What I do if there is a question mark over a truth I am seeking, is to file it away in what my stepmother refers to as cabinet 13...lol..we can gain so much by sharing.Don't have to agree, listening though can help.
Cheers

Thank you for responding ; )
Ahhhhh....just as I stated above perception is a funny thing. Now if someone can tell me how to "cabinet 13" things. I tend to be one to make a quick call on things so I can move on. Only to have to go back because I was *gasp* wrong!

I have an open mind so what i think now might be differant tommorow with every aspect the only things i stand firm on is the things that are proven fact. that would be the only way someone would not sway my opionion at all.

I have been in or started over 1000 discussions here in the short time I have been here and only ONCE has my opinion been changed about something.
I'm still in shock that is how I remember it so well.
But I think I am at a point in my life that I have become firmly grounded in my beliefs and my ideals. So the possibility of someone writing something profound in 15 minutes on a discussion board is going against almost 30 years of the experience I have backing me up.

I am a sponge. I love to soak up information. I tend to go and read up about things if someone throws an entirely new idea at me. If after reading more about it, I find that what they said is backed up by other sources, I will change my opinion. I like facts though. I do not just want another opinion, because I have backed my ideas with fact. But fact can change, so opinions can change.

I don't know or thing that I necessarily sway but I do rethink my feelings at times. It happens when there is an intelligent point that comes up and forces me to think about something a little differently. It doesn't happen often so knowing that- most of the time I stand pretty firm on my discussions. It does depend on the subject though.

Nah, I am a person if I have something to say, I say regardless what others might have to say about it before me. My family calls it me being "stubborn".. But that is just me.
