Pros: Gosling plays young version and Garner play old version... creating a mighty lead character Cons: Sappy Chick Flick... er... naw... What I thunk: "The Notebook" tremendously satisfied me. It was pleasant & affectionately touching. Its about an oldman reading a story to an elderly woman in a nursing home. A tale of love and the necessity of endurance in it. It's a great love story that invokes, sentimental yearning, for the happiness of a former place in time. Showing how pain & suffering often comes, with making your heart exclusive to another soul. The acting is delightfully solid. We receive a revealing view of Rachel McAdams. Unlike, the typical mean-teen-queen that she often portrays... Examples: "The Hot Chick" & "Mean Girls", we receive a character with actual depth. Plus, she layers the romantic with realism and dramatic force. She delivers a heart-felt performance, in the anguish that her character goes thru. Ryan Gosling is once again splendid, showing his versatility in portraying a strong countryboy who falls hard for a girl, that seems far from his reach. He shows a strong performance, in playing a charming fellow. Best of all, I loved the performance by James Garner. He was the synergist of this romantic tale. Providing the romantic spark that made sure that all aspects of the story merged well.

You said the two words that make me run in the opposite direction, sappy and chick flick.I like romances but not too sappy. And the chick flicks they make today make me homicidal. I rather see a great action film.

Oh please do yourself a huge favour and view the film if you have the opportunity,I am sure you will not classify as chick flick.I feel it is one of those films that is capable of touching many, and one many will be able to relate to.

I like true romantic films not sappy films so if this more like The English Patient then it should be a good film.

I thought the movie was sweet and moving. I've read several Nicholas Sparks books and watched the movies based on them...they all have some sappiness and sadness to them. I thought Ryan Gosling was fabulous in it.

I am a huge Ryan Gosling fan, so that was mainly why I was so open to viewing it. But other aspects about it, also delivered.

I have only seen part of the make but I really liked it. It was a great concept and I believe it was original. However I may be mistaken on that.

I love reading anything by Nicholas Sparks. This story was unique ,but oddly familiar. I loved the storyline and found the ending to be quite sad. This is one of my favorite books and movies.

I loved this film. My husband and I saw it together in the movie theater and it made both of us cry. Its a beautiful and touching film. The book was nicely written as well though for once I prefer the way the movie ends to the way the book ends.

I think this is the best chick flick of all... sappy but satisfying is an understatement for me... all the elements of a future classic is in this movie... great actors who acted great... plot not that unique but has a nice twist which can make M. Night Shayamanlan (sorry) cry... and best of all... it is not open to any sequel or prequel...
