while i was in highschool when they had typewriters (sooo many moons ago) i was taught the middle row way of typing (pinkies on the a and the ' and so on...)
but i have noticed that many people use their two index fingers and can prbably type just as fast as i can!
how about you? what do you use?

I use both hands and know when I have hit the wrong key. When my father first got a computer he had a difficult time until I told him to think of the keyboard like piano keys. That helped him tremendously. It's the same concept. The only time I use the peck approach is when my puppy is laying on my left arm.

I learned by putting my fingers in the middle row; however, the teacher had all of have typewriters with the keys blank, so people couldn't just look at the keys. You had to look at the picture on the board, if you became confused with the key order. I had trouble seeing the board, so didn't really do well in the class. I have tried learning to type on my own, but need more practice. My words per minute was terrible at the time and is even worse today.

LOL I've never been a "hunt and peck" type...I've always used all my fingers and CAN'T look at the keyboard actually...My husband is a keyboard looking hunt and peck type but he's pretty quick which is too funny to me!

I've got a pretty weird style.
I don't necessarily use all of my fingers in the traditional method they teach in typing classes, but at the same time I am not a "two finger" typer. It's a hypbrid of both. The Two index fingers do most of my work, but I do get petty good use out of the other fingers as well, just not in the way that's taught. IT's effective; my typing speed is over 50 words per minute anyways.

You and I must type a lot alike! I taught myself to type...many years ago it seems. I use 6-8 fingers. My index and middle fingers do most of the work. My pinkies hardly ever work. They are my weakest fingers and since I can't type as fast as I speak I don't need any handicap fingers in the way! LOL

I use both hands. I find it much easier and faster when I use both hands. Also, I was trained this way. Using your two index fingers is like using a cellphone's keypad using your pinkies.

Hi,
I learn typing during my college days, at that time it was just a time pass with group of my friends. Later it has helped me a lot. I am a full hand typist and also I do have mistakes that too spelling mistakes which I do not know. It I had checked when I try to type fast. Still if I go slow in a medium speed I could type well. I hope my decision for learning typing was a timely and needed one. I too had seen how difficult for those who find it difficult to type well.

I am a full fingered typist. I have been typing since i was in 7th grade and i guess it just came naturally to me, because i've been out of school for 10 years now, but still got it. LOL! My husband is a two finger typer. He gets so frustrated with me seeing how fast i type when it takes him so much longer to get it done, although he's gotten very good at the two finger typing. LOL! Anyways, he usually asks me to do stuff for him on the computer because he says he doesn't wanna be on there for hours at a time when i can get it done within minutes. ha ha ha! God bless and thanks for posting.

I learned the same way you did. And i can use the full finger approach. But I find that i can slip into the 2 finger thing easily. And without much thought. Also I seem to make fewer mistakes. Funny how that seems to work.

Full finger... I had to learn it in high school. Then after a few transcription jobs and basically living on the 'net for a summer my speed increased greatly.

I use the finger typist postition. I learned how to type on a toy called a type in write when I was in about 5th grade. I loved that thing it really helped me with learning how to type it was also alot of fun.
My husband has to look at the keyboard and he types one finger at a time it drives me up a wall it takes him so long to type then.

I started out with the 2 finger approach when I first got my computer and had never taken a typing class before in my life.
A few months in a chat room and now I type with all my fingers and can usually get out about 70 words a minute.

I learnt how to type in highschool, and then went on to college to learn it further, and so I use all my fingers and type how I was taught. My hubby used two fingers and he can type pretty quickly, I have tried it like that and I cannot do it like that!
