Update on being Reported for Spamming

Whew - I can breath a sigh of relief now. In an earlier discussion I shared that one of the PTC programs I belong to sent me an email warning that there had been reports of sending spam emails (spam is unsolicited email)...
I went into panic mode as I had not sent anyone, not a single person my referral link in an email and am very much against spam mail...
Well, I finally got a response from the admin to an email I sent defending myself (or attempting to)...
Come to find out they had sent the same email to ALL of the members and they did know who it was doing it and it wasn't me...
For discussion (along with the congrats for being cleared and relieved)... Have you gotten an email that put a fright into you and then had it cleared up later? Have you received emails that you thought were addressed to only you but they were in fact directed at a group of people? For the most part do you like being able to communicate via emails?
Ok, I'm old and remember the days when we didn't have e-mail while I know some myLot members have been raised with email available... Personally I love it :)

I have a marketing resource newsletter I send out weekly, and have been accused twice of spamming by individuals who signed up and comfirmed their requests!!
Both times my host let me know I received a spam complaint and it was just a matter of showing where they vtoluntarily joined my list and confirmed. Many people sometimes forget when they join a mailing lists. I only wish they would give the webmaster the opportunity to correct the situation before filing complaints. Oh well, so folks are just trigger happy with the spam complaint fingers.
Cheers,
Ed

I do think that happens alot online, people sign up for things and then forget they did it. I highly recommend the double opt in method for signing up for newsletters for the protection of the author/editor and it puts the information in front of the reader more than once to hopefully get it in their mind better.
I would be interested in reading your newsletter how do I sign up to receive it?

It's easy. Just visit my honest marketing site at http://honest-marketing.com and you will see the subscribe form just beneath the navigation menu.
While you're there, you can see how I've integrated mylot discussions into my site. Just in case you might want to do the same.
Cheers,
Ed

Thanks Ed, I signed up for your newsletter but didn't get the verification email :( I'll try again later if I don't get it in the next hour or so.
Ok, I love it, how on earth did you get your myLot discussions on your web site? I would so very much love to add that to my blog.

No I have not, but I would have been scared too, not knowing it was sent to everyone..
As for communicating through e-mail, I love it. I only had internet for about 3-4 years now, so other than IM that I do with close family and friends, e-mail is really great..:)

I've been online almost 10 years now, hard to believe as it doesn't seem that long. I used to do the IM things but found them too annoying - seemed every time I was in the middle of a 'thought' someone would message me and I'd lose it... I tried another for a bit so my son in the AF could message me whenever but we ended up just going to email as we are both multi-taskers and the IM was an interuption too often. There have been times one or the other of us would email the other and say 'get on MSN IM I'm on now' otherwise we just leave them closed down.

I only get on IM if my sister or a friend is on, but I really like it, because it is more like a phone in compared to e-mail where you just wait forever for a reply, in IM the response is instant..

The first few times I received emails like that I freaked out as well until I realized that they weren't directed at me, personally. There are some webowners that will announce it in the email that it's not directed to one person in specific. I like when they do that.
I love email as well. Don't know how we/I got along without it. Didn't write many letters - 'snail-mail' throughout the years.

This was the first one I 'freaked out' over but I think because of the wording - it was written like it was directed at only one person...
Now I used to write a lot of letters but oh email is so much quicker and easier :)

They should have stated in the note that is was being sent to all members. I dont blame you for being so concerned and taking up for yourself. They handled it wrong, I think.

That's what I thought also - I mean there was nothing at all in the email to indicate it was being sent to anyone else but me. I am glad it's straightened out though and think in the future they will do that, say Dear Members, or something to that effect.

Congratulations! That's great that you are clear now. I have never been reported of spamming. I have sent emails inviting people to see my websites, is that spamming? How do I go about that? Do you know?

I ask because I have email addresses of a free-leads.com I am subscribed to. They send me about 1,250 email addresses every week but I don't want to spam anyone. So I tell them if I can have their permission to send a link for them to review and if they say yes then I send them the link. I don't think I am spamming that way, Am I correct?

Oh dear I've seen those and I too would be upset in that case - even 2 hours can seem like eternity when your name and reputation are in 'discussion'.

Glad to hear this is all cleared up for you. Guess the site decided to target the entire membership instead of aiming directly for the member who was abusing the system.
I love being able to communicate via emails. I make lunch or dinner plans, keep in touch with friends and relatives out of state and do so many things on the computer using email. The beauty of computers, when they work properly. I love it.

my dear faith as you already know I was not here to read your previous discussion, but I am here now before going to bed (it's latet and I have to hurry because I am getting up soon tomorrow morning!!) to tell you that I am happy that everything was cleared..but I and all your friends didn't need another person to tell us that you are a splendid and nice person who has neither time nor idea of disturbing anybody else. I had no doubt. Of course you were innocent if innocent is the right word. And as you know I am the one who loves letters, really tender and precious paper letters and I hope to have time to write to you soon. Would you like me to??? good night my dear. and have a nice and productive week

yes congrats indeed on being cleared. it's never nice to think you're under suspicion of something like spam.
well, personally i love email cos it allows me to keep in touch with friends all around the world.
of course work wise it has increased the pace of replies expected and workloads for everyone. especially now that we can access mail from home there is no real demarcation of work and home life.
