Consumer Reports....Infomercials and such

So I was thinking today...since there are so many ppl from so many places...we should have our own little Consumer Reports thread. I mean there has to be many of us who've tried infomercial type products or new products that others are curious to try but would like to hear from others first what their opinion etc is....For example I would really like to try those Green Bag things that are suppose to keep your fresh produce fresher longer but have been hesitant to order any simply becuase lets face it...product testimonials on commercials and product websites arent exactly relible ya know...
So I thought it'd be a neat idea (yes I said "neat"..at least it wasnt "nifty" LOL) to ask about what we each want to try and those of us who have already tried it give their honest opinion of the product.....
I already mentioned that I'd like to try the
Green Bags for fresh produce (anyone try those yet?)
but I'd also like to try a few other things...if you have tried them or currently own them what is your opinion..waste of time or worth my time?
Vidalia Slice Wizard
Mighty Putty
Dryer B@lls
Hercules Hooks
Has anyone tried any of these items? If so what did you think of it..was it worth the buy or a waste of cash?
One thing I CAN recommend and I would actually like to get the newer kind is OVEGLOVES!! I got one over a yr ago from my mum in law and I LOVE IT....best oven mitt I've ever used..especially considering the oven mitts you find nowdays are more of a fashion statement then anything..(they just dont make things like they use to :-/)

I think you have a wonderful idea!!! The only thing I've really tried is the Shark cordless vac. I love it, would go out and buy another one if something happened to this one. I've had it for about 4 yrs now. I've also wondered about the vidalia slicer. Hopefully alot of people will respond!

No, it looks like one of those cheap manual sweepers with the tray that you pull out and dump. You just keep it plugged into the charger when not using it. The true test of this vac was popcorn kernels. My regular vac just threw them back out. Not to mention it picks up nails, screws, etc. They sell them in several stores now.

The one you were talking about Raven is the Roomba. It roams the house looking for dirt on its own. I like the idea, but its too much AI (artificial intelligence) for me.

Oh that is a fantastic idea!! I love it!!
I haven't tried any of those above mentioned products unfortunately. I've thought about getting the dryer ball before but I'm uncertain about it. I've thought about getting the Oveglove too. Those look pretty cool. I may have to pick one up now :)
the Hercules Hooks I'm really skeptical of because they look like that scrap into the back of the drywall too much and eventually make a big hole in it.

Ovegloves are FABULOUS!! but you really do need two of them LOL I only have one and its a pain in the butt when taking hot pans out of the oven cause one hand is fine but the nonOveglove hand isnt so fine...things tend to come close to being dropped quite often LOL I really wnat the newer version with the blue grip strips on it..
Yea I've been really humming and hawing aobut the Herc Hooks...they just don't seem like they'd be trustworthy ya know..

Oh I wanted to say that I once had a Hoover FloorMate and I LOVED it!!! I highly recommend one of those. When I finally killed mine I was heart broken and have been wanting to get another one but don't have the funds :( Plus I don't have all hardwood floors now so it's not as much a necessity as it was before. But if I ever pull up my carpet like I want to do and expose the hardwood underneath I'm getting another one LOL. When I had it people would tell me that Hoover should make me a spokeswoman LOL.

This is a great idea. Hopefully people that have tried these things will post here with their experience. I haven't tried any of the things that you listed Raven, but I wanted to ask didn't the dryer balls go mainstream? I thought that one of the major companies like downy picked it up and now you can get it at the grocery store. But I may be mistaken.

Actually yea i think you can buy those dryer ball things at Walmart now...its actually pretty funny since all it is is a lumpy ball LOL but dryer sheets can be so damn pricey (especially when you have more laundry to do weekly than should be legally allowed LOL damn teenagers)...Maybe I'll buy a lumpy ball from the dollar store and see what happens LOL

The only thing I tried from an infomerical was this stupid dress that was supposed to be this wrap that you can make 100 dresses out of it just by wrapping it on you in so many different way. I can't even remember the name of it. It was very expensive, hard to order, bad customer service, and when I finally got it 2 months lately it was a big long black sheet of cotton fabric and that was it. DUMB!

Kept it for a long time thinking I could maybe do something kinky with it but never did. Later just donated it to charity. LOL

The only infomercial item I've ever tried is the Starfrit apple peeler.. and those are now regular items in some stores (I've seen them in Walmart).
There's a great store here in Ontario that sells only items you see on infomercials. I THINK it's called "as seen on tv", but I really don't remember. I haven't been in one in a few years, because I don't watch enough tv to get enticed into buying any of those new inventions.
Oh, and by the way, the StarFrit apple peeler works REALLY well on apples (I used it to make a huge batch of applesauce with my twins' senior kindergarten class last year)

Yea I do believe thats the name of the store...one opened up in the mall in my hometown just before I moved away..
I could do with the apple peeler thing! I have a Rotato (electric potato peeler) which has its good points and bad...Oddly enough the newer model that I have now doesnt seem as good as the original version..I'll have to see if I can find an apple peeler around here..Starfrit has some really great products..I have their pots and pans set (Classics I think its called) that can only be found at the Canadian Walmart and I LOVE THEM....Best cookware set I've ever owned! My first visit back home this summer I'm planning on buying a new set :-D
