I've been taking 50 mg. of seroquel to sleep at night for years and it's always worked great for me. Since my Mom passed away and I've been so depressed and have had problems sleeping even with the 50 mg. my psychiatrist raised the dosage to 75 mg. Now all of a sudden instead of sleeping I'm finding I'm more awake than sleepy. The extra 25 mg. almost seems to give me a rush instead of the usual sleepy or dizzy feeling that I used to get. I've been on the raised dosage for about a month because I've been thinking it was just the change that made it work different but I'm starting to think I'm wrong.
Do you have any experience with Seroquel? Why do you think it's working this way all of a sudden?

Well, I know that if it were me, I wouldn't mess around. I think you should call your doctor and discuss it with him or her. I know that I was on paxil for four years and never even noticed a change until my brother pointed out the change in my behavior. When I contacted my doctor about it, he said that I shouldn't have been on it for more than a year and he didn't know how that had gone un-noticed. Now I just don't take anything at all.

It sounds like you're having what's called an ideosyncratic reaction, although I'm not a doctor, just a nurse...sometimes there is a genetic pre-disposition with certain people or your metabolism is different. It seems to be more prevelant in people who are diagnosed with anxiety and depression as well. That said, I agree with everyone else that you should call your doctor and have him lower your dose and maybe add something else. Good luck! : )

After a while some medicines begin to act just the opposite of what they are supposed to act. I do not know if seroquel does that. I have some experience with this happening with another med, when my hubby was ill.

I would call you doctor right now and let him know what's going on. Sometimes a person can have a reverse reaction to a medication they never had a problem with in the past. I know after by back injury they put me on a narcotic which is supposed to make a person sleepy. But after a few days of using it instead of making me drowsy it gave me energy. Maybe the same thing is happening with you. And if that is the case maybe your doctor can try a different type of medication. But you definately need to call your doctor. You gave it a month which is usually as long as it takes to get over the side effects so contacting you doctor is really important. Good luck.~D

I have no experience with this but sounds to me like you might give the doctor call and ask. I do know some medications at different doses have different effects.
