People are becoming very ill from the use of hand sanitizers
and it is especially dangerouse for children, elderly, and ill.
The hospital where my daughter is doing an internship is looking for an alternative because of adverse effects to the employees that have to use them all the time. The poor er staff that uses it hundreds of times a day have rough, dry, cracked , and bleeding hands so many are just not using it and putting new gloves on from room to room and while answering phones etc.
Folks don't use this stuff on your kids. There are better ways.

I agree that abuse of hand sanitizers is dangerous and that people need to use common sense when applying anything, especially with young children. My alternative is to carry two small spray bottles, one containing 3% hydrogen peroxide, and other other vinegar as apparently when used in combination these two common household items become extremely effect in killing germs. This is for disinfecting the things we touch, though, such as shopping cart handles, door knobs, and flatware in a restaurant.
The hand sanitizers serve a purpose and if used as intended, are probably as safe and effective as they are convenient, but you are absolutely right in pointing out that one needs to exercise great caution in using them. Overuse will undoubtedly also cause the bacteria to mutate to form which will ultimately render the chemicals ineffective anyway, I think...but the side effects will remain.

The flavored or scented ones are especially hazardous. Our school has some kind of a water based sanitizer in the cafeteria and in the health room. I do not know what it contains. I hope not Triclosan. Plain old soap and water is still the best, but getting kids to use them is hard.

This is a very good thing to post. Thank you for this information. I just picked up some of the stuff last night. I am glad it did not cost that much. I will keep it in my purse and only use it when absolutly needed.
Thanks for posting this.

yeah this is a very dangerous stuff...might be they introduce it for certain advantage but behind it there is a more dangerous than the advantage you will get for the sanitizer...it kills germs, yes it is...how about your skin that is very sensitive than germs...using it is destructive...thanks i didn't use it instead use cellophane or wash my hands when eating.

Oh i used hand sanitizer for the thinking that it can clean my hand but you said that it is not safe. Maybe because of the chemicals included?..Now i know that the safest is washing hand when not tired to protect you from viruses and infections.

I have always avoided them, even during the Sars outbreak. How can we build up immunities if we avoid all germs?

Thank you for sharing this information with me. We always use this (used!), but now I`m scared, because of my 3 years old daughter. Hope everything`s gonna be fine..
