Some are pretty neat. Gilgamesh was neat, Bubblegum and Ghost in the Shell have their dark/technopunk feel. Higurashi and Tsukihime are great dark works too (but the anime to the latter pales compared to the visual novel).

yes, I think that sometimes the novels are better than the animes.
I am also a great fan of ghost in the shell.

not sure but maybe it still depend with the plot, if the story is very much appealing then no doubt that you will like it. yeah i have an eye for gothic animes too. because some of anime's like this has very interesting stories as well as the illustrative characters.

yes there are twists in these shows that could leave your mouth hanging. hehe their stories tend to be more complex than the simple -- revenge, love etc. etc.

i think thats just a mild one. i think Ergo Proxy would suit that category just fine. lol. then Night head Genesis or Serial Lain Experiment (did i mix it up??). hehehe.
