Good question. Let me answer this from a former Catholic and former Jew...
The Vatican proclaimed December 25th as the day Jesus was born because at the time of decision, the pagans were running rampant. In order to steer the new believers into getting interrested, they coincided the holiday with a well known pagan holidays...Sun gods and all. Here, I'll give you a link:

If Jesus was born at the time of December, that would make him a Sagittarius . He's not...he's a Leo. The books say he was to be born from the tribe of Judah...the Lion...the Leo.

Jesus was not born on December 25th this is an observation that was decided at the council of Nicea in the third century which happenes to coincide with several Pagan festivals like the feast of Sol Evictus a sun diety in the Roman Empire and personal god of Emperor Constantine himself. There are also some Eastern polythiestic dieties that also share this liking for December 25th. So at the council of Nicea under Constantine that same Roman Emperor seated the first true meating of the Holy Roman Catholic Church this and many more things where decided.

Think abou this when Jesus was born the lambs and farm animals were also iving birth to there babies so it couldent have been in December because those kind of animals only gave birth in the spring. My mom who is a hard core Christian made mention of this to me at one time yet she still celebrates the "Birth of Christ" on christmas like every other brain washed Christian out there.

Jesus was not born on December 25. The Catholic church often placed certain Christian holidays around the same time as Pagan holidays to counteract/replace them and I believe also to appeal to the Pagans and convert them.
They actually moved All Saints Day from May 13 to November 1 to counteract the Pagan holiday Samhain (Halloween) which falls on October 31.
Christmas was supposed to replace Yule (December 19 - 22) and Easter, Ostara (March 19 - 22). Yule and Ostara are Pagan holidays. That's why some Christians (mostly fundamentalists) don't even celebrate Christmas and Easter because they believe those have Pagan origins.

Growing up in the catholic church I always learned that Dec 25th was an estimate, not an exact date.

Hi sutan,
We don't know the exact date that the Lord Jesus was born. The Bible doesn't give us this information. But, does it really matter? The important thing is that He WAS born and we set aside a very special day every year to celebrate this AWESOME event in history! God's greatest Gift: His Son, Jesus Christ.
God bless!:)

it is generaly held that this was not his day of birth the date was probably picked by emperor constantine after his conversion !the romans pagan Gods had a festival on this date (dec 25) and it was easier to change it to a Christian holliday than to get the populace to abandon it No one realy knows the real date !

The story of Jesus is a Myth that was started thousands of years before the known biblical story was written. No one has any Idea if there ever was a real Jesus, so of course there are no records of his birthdate. Some think the story was centered around Horus the Sky God of Ancient Egypt. Its a Lovely Myth, and the Christian Church has used it to Print Money for the last 1500 years.

The story of Jesus is very true. It is not a myth. If it did not happen, we all would be in horrible trouble with no hope...nothing! We would all be doomed for hell.
Praise God for His Son, Jesus Christ! :)

I'm not really sure about this one. I am born a Catholic and I celebrate Christmas just like the rest of us. I'm not really sure if they have winter or snow in Israel. Because if they do, then Jesus is not born on December because we usually have snow on December. And I don't see snow in any picture of the Nativity that I saw. thanks.

He was born in July I believe. Ia lso remember watching a show on the science or history channel or something that supported this. They figured out what it was in the sky, a comet, that they were following and also what year and month it was.

The answer is a plain and simple, no! there are hundred of reasons for celebrating it when they do, but the answer to your question is a resounding, no. If you believe the biblical stories then you will find the description to not fit with historical references or extrapolated scientific certainties as to time of year. The most likely time of his birth assuming you want to believe he existed which there is no evidence other than the bible to support it, would be between late july to early september or late march to early may depending on which of the harvest seasons are being referenced.

Hi there.
My Mum said No He was not born on 25 December, He was born on 6 April cos in the Shepherds did not tend the Sheep in Winter, they were in the Sheep fold. It was in the Spring. Shepherds would only Tend the Sheep in Spring, Summer or Fall/Autumn indoors. We are members of The Church Of Jesus Christ and this is what we are taught but My Mother knows this is the Truth. As for myself I don't know whether it is truth for myself or not, but this is what the Church does teach though.
Catch ya later.

Jesus was actually born in March. Almost, if not all, Christian holidays are placed over pegan holidays. When christians were trying to recruit pegans to christianity they used to argument of "well the holidays are on the same day so celebrate this one instead, it is better". So Jesus is not Sagittarius. Christianity has no origional holidays they are all placed on top of pegan holidays.
