Cooking the same thing over and over again.

Do you ever feel like you are cooking the same thing every day over and over again. Okay - maybe not everyday - just every other day. Lets see - yesterday we had pasta so today I guess we will have chicken. We had salmon 2 days ago so I don't want to make that again so soon. Pork? Well we had pork roast last week - is it too soon to make again already? What else is their? I really try to have a variety of foods and try to be creative but sometimes it really just seems like I am cooking the same thing over and over again. Anyone else feel this way?

That happens to me here, especially when I'm not the one who cooked the meal or was bought from a diner or restaurant taken out.. I hate having the same thing, it makes me feel sick. It's the members of the family who makes some dumb decisions like these, they only think of themselves and not the family as a whole. I usually different cuisines from other countries, that way I could learn to appreciate and experience the richness of that particular recipe. There are lots of ideas that we could get from the net (through recipes) and books, sometimes I cook all veggies and sometimes a combination of meat, fish and vegetables. The best thing is, we could also experiment in preparing and cooking foods by simply putting or adding something different from what the original recipe offers..

Yes, I don't use any measuring items on it either. I just look at it as a guide, but I rarely follow them since there are other items which are not available from where I come from.

I rarely ever cook straight from a recipe. I don't like measuring things (unless I'm baking and I have to). Most of the time I will look at a recipe and wing it my own way.

I try to be creative and try new things at least once a week but there are a few things we like and that are pretty easy to prepare which I tend to make pretty often...pasta, veggie stir fry, and veggie and/or lentil stew.

enjoy! LENTIL AND SPINACH SOUP 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 1/2 cups chopped onion 1 cup chopped celery 3 garlic cloves, minced 1 teaspoon ground cumin 3/4 teaspoon of thyme 1 bay leaf 1/4 teaspoon pepper 9 1/2 cups (or more) water 1 16-ounce bag dried lentils (about 2 1/2 cups) 1 10-ounce bag baby spinach leaves or frozen chopped spinach Heat oil in heavy large pot over medium-high heat. Add next 3 ingredients; sauté until golden, about 10 minutes. Stir in thyme, cumin, bay leaf, and pepper. Add water and dried lentils; bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer uncovered until lentils are tender, adding more water by 1/2 cupfuls to thin soup, if desired, about 30 minutes. Add spinach; simmer until spinach is wilted, 5-10 minutes. Season soup with salt to taste (around 2 tsp).

Care to share a recipe for Lentil Stew? That sounds like something different, never made Lentils before. I'm sure the kids won't like it though but my husband will eat anything.

I feel like that sometimes. I get stuck on kicks. Like for about 2 weeks straight all I wanted to cook was soup LOL I do go out of my way to think of different things or read different recipes online. I am trying something new with our food though. I need to go grocery shopping, so I am going to do a menu. That way I know what we are having every day and if someone has an issue, they can complain before I go to the store. So far I have: Red Beans & rice w/cornbread Chicken, Black Beans & Brown Rice casserole w/brussel sprouts or corn Meatloaf muffins (this is a rachel ray recipes, it is individual meatloaves that you make in a muffin pan, take like 15 minutes to cook) w/ green beans & salad Beef Soft Tacos w/corn Peanut Chicken w/ Coconut Rice w/steam veggies Crock Pot Short ribs w/ beet salad and rutabega Whole wheat pasta & meat sauce (made with sausage) w/salad and broccoli

I have tried those Meatloaf Muffins awhile back - I forgot about those. I have also tried doing the menu thing and was doing that for awhile. I would have everyone pick out 3 or 4 meals they wanted for the month and jot them down on a calendar I printed out on the computer. Then I could plan each week what we were going to eat. It also let the kids pick something they wanted also. My daughter likes peanut butter chicken and I did find a recipe online - it turned out really well.

Thats a good idea. My son likes to cook so we use his Rachel Ray books or his ideas often.

When I have to cook for my family everyday, sometimes I will lose my spirit. I need something to create new dishes. It's likely after a few days I will repeat my favorite dishes:)

That's a good word for it - loosing the spirit. It's also frustrating cause chances are that whatever I cook I know at least one of my children will turn their nose up at it so I'm always trying to cook something everyone will like. Which is impossible.

Yes i know exatcly what you mean it is very difficult to cook something different everyday and it does seem that you are just cooking the same meal day after day. It is even harder in our house as me and my eldest son are both vegetarian so i have to do two meals as my partner will not eat vegetrian food.

I do feel I cook the same things over and over sometimes. I try not to but theres only so much you can cook really. I try not to put to much effort into dinner. Like make a meatloaf or anything like that. I make simple things that you fry up and throw in some sides with it. usually the sides are all the same thing tho. I try to look for different things but I only like so many things so yea I know how you feel.

Simple is always best, I try to keep it simple but I want it to be a little different and creative sometimes also.

Try to arrange some vegetables on your plate ... put your meal some artistic value. Sometimes simple things has better results ...

Honestly how ever I tried before to learn how to cook without burning anything in my mother's house or cutting my anywhere on my hand, i just can't figure out how people or chefs do that thing called "cooking". So whenever I NEED to cook, I go for frying only. Sometimes I burn it sometimes I throw it directly from the pan because I could eat it anymore. Anyway, food that I could dare fry are eggs, any kind of meat, octopus will do (joke), some other stuff that foreigners might feel so alien looking and smelling it.. I guess that's all. And for almost all my life I've been living because I know how to fry. Except when I'm in my mother's house.

Yep, I'm right there with you! I feel like I'm constantly cooking the same things, over and over again! My youngest is a picky eater too, so it makes it hard to find meals she'll like. We've gotten to the point now that if she doesn't like what we're having, she can make herself a sandwich and eat some fruit.

We tend to eat the same meals. Tuesdays always seem to be chicken days. Wednesday is always pasta as that is hubby's band practice night. I try not to have the same thing week in and week out. It does help to have a crock pot!

I feel like that all the time. It is frustrating because I want to try new things, but I'm not sure what. What I ended up doing was making a list of things to try. When I think of something, I write it down. When I find a good recipe in a magazine I tear the page out and put it in a folder. If I see something good on a cooking show on TV I go to the website, print out the recipe and put it in the folder. Then when it's time to do the shopping, I make a menu for the week. When doing that, I try to put on the menu at least one meal that we haven't done before, and at least one that we haven't done in a long time. I don't always succeed in trying something new each week, but I do pretty often. It helps a lot to break up the routine of the same things over and over.

yes! We live everyday.. of course we have to prepare foods for every meals... Even if same routine & same menu in the table is enough as long as u cook it by all means... Like wise... I cook a lot & I can say I love to cook... In my case... I love to discover some sort of dishes in preparing (Pasta, Chicken, Pork, Fish.. ect...) But if things don't suit the day I always make an effort in preparing it just look good & special.. I do some simple techniques when I serve it... I designed it by putting some ornamentals... (vegetables can help)

Yup, I feel the same way. My menu will always repeated every week and sometimes in three days had the same menu..But after all I think it's not a problem, as long as I like the food.

I actually make out a 2 week menu for dinners all the time. I have used www.menus4moms.com and the Food Network just to name a few web sites. My daughter thought up a good idea. She recommended we have "dinner around the world" for a couple of weeks. She's going to get recipes from different countries like Italy, France, Hungary and cook that way. There's nothing worse than getting stuck on hot dogs and mac & cheese!

Sometimes I felt that. I need cooking for my family at least twice times per day. That means only breakfast we can have some simple things like milk and bread, or sandwiches, but the lunch and the dinner should be complicate. I can not cooking hundreds different things for meals. So what can I do? I only can cooking the same things over and over again.
