I was watching this show called Fun Food Frenzey with my daughter, it's a pretty cool show. It teaches good eating habits and gives out some pretty cool recipies for kids and grown upos will like them too. Well anyway's I found out that Kiwi fruits have more vitamin C in them than an orange. I thought that was a good thing to know.

Hi cupoftea,
Oranges are nice and easy to grow, and are generally readily available in most places.
They are nice wholesome fruit, and they do have some vitamin C in them.
But there are an awful lot of other fruits that have way, way more vitamin C in them than oranges.
Here's the inside guff on the topic - up untl just recently, the two fruits that supposedly had the highest vitamin C content of any fruit were the Acerola Cherry (it grows as a big bush, maybe 10 or 12 feet high) and the Rose Hip. The Rose Hip, by the way, is what is left after the petals fall off a rose. Who doesn't have a couple of rose bushes in their garden? If you're looking for Vitamin C, then don't let those Rose Hips go to waste!
BUT recently there have been a few more fruits discovered that have even more vitamin C in them than Acerola Cherries or Rose Hips. One that I know of is the Kakadu Plum, which comes from a rather large tree that grows in the northern tropics of Australia. There are a couple more mega-C fruits from that area too, and there are doubtless heaps of others around the world that no-one has woken up to yet.
Kiwi fruit are very tasty, and do have a useful amount of vitamin C in them. But there are heaps of other fruits with way more. Even the humble Rose Hip, believe it or not.

Hi again,
I'm not sure that too many people would eat Rosehips straight off the bush, but they are used to make a nice herbal tea (that's in most of the health-food places, even i the supermarkets), and I know some people make jam out of them.
I personally find it's easiest just to put them through a juicing machine along with apples and carrots and other stuff to get all their Vitamin C goodness out of them.
I think you can get Acerola Cherries in many supermarkets, although there may not be much Vitamin C left in them if they're not fresh (eg, if they're canned or candied).
The more recent & exotic discoveries probably haven't made it to the average supermarket shelves yet - might take a while for that to happen.
But Kiwi Fruits are very tasty little items anyway, and they're pretty easy to grow in the garden too. It's a vine, similar to passion fruit and grape vines and so on, but you need one male plant to fertilize the female plants which bear the fruit.

Goji berries do also. In fact they contain 500 times more vitamin C by weight, than oranges! Probably why they're classified as a "Superfood".

Probably in health food shops, although I've actually bought them in health food sections of regular grocery stores before too now.

That is very interesting and useful to know. I really like kiwi fruit. I love the sweetness of this fruit. I love the texture of the seeds and the smoothness of the fruit together. When I worked in the Head Start program, we often served this fruit with their breakfast meal. The kids loved it.

Wow thats awesome. I love kiwi but don't often buy them, I'm not sure why. But now that I know that they are that nutrient rich I will have to start adding them to my cart more often. Thanks for the information.
