What is your cats favorite toy?

It amazes me that my cats have an abundance of toys and things to sleep on, stuff to keep them busy, however its the cheapest thing that keeps them occupied for hours. When my cats were small they loved playing with a pink ball that lit up and rolled around a plastic ring. A $2 toy kept them happy for a couple years. As they got older they moved on to other things, like a fuzzy mouse that holds catnip in it. All four of them went through their cycle of loving on "mousie". Now the latest craze for my cats are these bright colored fuzzy mice, about an inch long with little rattles in them. I bought a package of 60 and learned just how fast 60 mice disappear with 4 cats.. so I bought another pack. Now we're down to our last few mice, and I need to find the grand hiding place so we can recycle them instead of buying more. We've shared our great buy with several friends who own cats as well, and the toy was an instant success. So what is your cats favorite toy? Do you have a story behind it that you'd like to share?

Boxes. Any box that gets brought into the house, even before it is opened, gets inspected and approved of by all 3 of my cats. Then, it is carefully watched as the contents are removed. Once the contents are removed, the box is then given a thorough inspection on the inside. Now, these inspections can happen many times over the next few days if we don't throw the box away. The boxes sometimes take some pretty heavy pawed inspections too. They don't hold any punches. In fact, I have considered seeing if luggage companies would like to hire my cats to do their inspections. They do good work. Next are the little colorful mice that your cats like too. They throw them up into the air, across the room and then loose them under the couches or other furniture. Unless, of course, my dog gets a hold of it first and eats it. LOL!

That makes me laugh. I have 2 cats that love boxes and bags, and two don't want anything to do with them. We make little "castles" out of our boxes as well. Thanks for your reponse. I loved this post!

Oh! I forgot about one more toy. It is like a little green koosh ball with a face and it has an elasticy string attached to it. It ends up all over the house. On the counters, on the couch, upstairs, in the bathroom so, the hubby and I named it Passport as it is so well traveled.

LOL! My pleasure! Isn't it funny how you can buy them something that costs $3 but, they are really more interested in the bag it came in of the box something of yours came in? How so much character can fit into such a small body is beyond me! LOL!

My cats have cat toys. One is a material type stick thing with rope and a bell on the end (it looks like a stick of dynamite). It's scented with catnip and they don't really play with it much-only if i'm playing with it with them. They also have a little plastic rolly toy with a bell in it. That doesn't interest them much either. What my four month old likes to play with most is a bright pink elastic hair band of mine. He plays with it, flips and flings it everywhere for ages! It keeps him occupied for longer than what it probably should. Isabella, my 10 month old has started to bring in cockroaches and lizards for me. She thinks I like it. I don't.

oddly enough my cat really doesn't like playing with toys that much, she likes to play with yarn, but thats about it...i guess the previous owner (i got her when she was 9) didnt play much with her (although she loves toys stuffed w/ catnip!!)

Did you know that some cats have a gene that decides whether they respond to catnip? The ones that don't respond to it don't have that gene!

it seems no matter what toys i buy for my 2 cats, they don't seem to want to play with any of them. one of them doesn't play with anything, (except the other cat) and the other one, well she loves to play with drinking straws (especially ones that you are still using!) and hair elastics-oh well, they are cheap-$1.00 for a a few dozen...

my cat's favorite toy is my feet or a piece of string s he'll find on the floor. She doesn't like any of the toy that I try to buy her unless they are the ones on a string that you dangle and drag across the floor. She loves to chase things.

Our cat is now 14 years of age so she's quite an old lady, so she doesn't bother with toys, in her youth we would provide her with loads of toys, she got them for Christmas too because she's a spoilt and pampered cat, well she's one of the family after all, but she was more interested in empty cardboard boxes and would happily nestle in there and ignore all her toys, she did have a blanket though which we decided to put in a cardboard box for her. She has never been a cat who plays with toys, I guess they are 'beneath' her LOL. Cats are funny creatures for sure.

My cat also loves the cheap stuff...twist ties, pen caps, plastic rings that come off bottle tops. He also loves his catnip mouse.

O.K. this is gonna sound pretty stupid, but it's true. My cat Lollipop is now like 6 1/2 years old. He has never really gotten into toys that we buy from the store but he loves this stupid toy we made for him. We call it his "sockbaby" and for over 6 years he plays with it no matter what other toy we give him. I just took an old black sock and tied a knot in the middle of it and then we took a shoelace, put it through the knot and pulled the sock around and he loved it! It reminded me of when my daughter was really little. She would get all sorts of neat stuff at Christmas and other holidays but she liked to lay with the boxes they came in instead. There have been time Lollipop has had to stay t the vet for things overnight and I always take his little "sockbaby" into the vet so he could have it overnight and I've always hoped it helped him not be homesick, haha!~D

I think that is really sweet. I used to have a toy similar to that when I was little. It was like my comfort blanket.

I got one of those balls because you were talking about it and not one of my boring cats had an interest in it! I was soo mad! It was such a cool toy. They are just too enthralled with the mousies.

My girl's favourite toy is an old rubber lizard, missing it's back legs, on a piece of string. She goes absolutely crazy when she sees it. She also drags it into our bedroom and meows frantically until someone plays with her.

Sammy hates noisy toys. We bought those colorful crinkly balls once and she ran away from them! She loves string, especially when hanging nonchalantly off of someone's blanket, and my husband's elbows. Her absolute favorite are little mice or socks stuffed with catnip. I love it when a cat plays with one of those, rolling around on their back like a little kitten. -Tink

I LOVE it when my 4 year old cat thinks she is a kitten! That has to be the best part of being a cat mom. Watching them remember what its like to be young and ornery again!

Well thanks for some ideas! My cat Soda doesn't really play with toys though, atleast not anymore. She would prefer to play with real mice and birds hehe. Well ... One supposed "toy" my cat does like, and same with one of our old cats .. Is a laser pointer. Cats seem to LOVE laser pointers .. Of course you have to do that yourself you have to move it around and what not but it's cute to watch them. It keeps them entertained for a long time! Another thing is kind of hard to explain .. You have to shine light from the sun off of a metal knife or spoon or something. I do that sometimes and Soda loves it .. She even makes really weird sort of "chirpy" noises it's funny. Another alternative to that would be a flashlight (especially in the dark). I hope this helps! Of course you have to do some work moving the things around and what not but it is well worth it :)

When I was growing up, there were no such things as toys for cats or dogs. Of course, the cardboard boxes were always a hit with Honey, and I would cut pieces out here and there to make a house. The most favorite thing was when the groceries came home. Nothing but paper bags back then. I would put the bag on the floor, make sure it was in the proper position, and then, Honey would be looking from afar. I'd scratch the back of the bag, so that it sounded like something was in there. He's wiggle his butt, winding up for the spurt. Lift off!!! Bang! Cats in the bag!

They all love large paper bags and boxes, no matter how small the boxes one of the cats is in the box. Paisley adores the plastic zip closures on the milk jugs, she tried to take one off a frozen milk jug one time. I am not sure they are safe for all cats but they seem fine for ours. She carries them around upstairs and down, hides them behind a leg of a piece of furniture and attacks it. Peaches has the head of a chrochet mouse head and you cannot recognize it now. She carries it around, it is the first time she has ever played with anything. She has had a horrible life before we got here but we don't know the details. We love it that she plays with a toy and that she has claimed has ownership of one. We have a toy box and once in a while one of our cats will go in and pick one. My Arthur, will carry one around and howl with it. They like to rabbit kick some of their toys. Recently we got mats for them. They are about a foot square, quilted and have toys attached to them and some nip inside. When I go to bed I smooth them out and they are both in a ball when I get up in the morning. We have plenty of great toys but the favorites are what I just listed. Arthur, Peaches and Paisley also love the laser flash light. They love to chase the little red light or any flash light. They are so fun to watch when they plan.

I have three cats that like different things. My oldest likes air, lol. She's sixteen, so she's not as playful as she used to be, though, every now and then she'll get up the nerve to bat some toys around. My middle cat mostly looks at her toys, then chases her tail, but she goes nuts when I break out the laser pointer. I can't do that very often, because she literally tries to climb my apartment walls trying to get the little red light monster. My youngest is the only one that has a favorite toy. It's called "Thing In A Bag". It's this vibrating toy that's sealed in a plastic bag that looks like a paper shopping bag. You have to press on the 'fold', and the bag vibrates randomly, like there's a mouse in it, for about five minutes. My oldest cat doesn't care about it, and my middle cat is scared of it, but my youngest will do everything she can to get to the little creature she thinks is inside of it. Well, she will for about a minute. For the other four minutes, the bag just gets annoying, LOL.

My ex pussycat used to love a bit of string. couldn't resist it. Unfortunately she turned vicious and started ripping into bare feet and not playfully either. Mothers pussycat likes to play with my puppy best. Puppy is scared stiff of that pussycat and it just loves to torment her. I'm sure its deliberate.

Unfortunately, our cat loves to ruin our furniture by using it as a scratching post. Sometimes he just loves playing with a small rubber/stress ball.
