Making money online..... Laziness?

I see so many discussions on people wanting to know how to make money online, or sharing how they have done it.
what is this desire to make money online? Is it people who are just lazy, and dont want to find a "real job", or are most of the people stay at home moms, and just want something to do during there free time?
Has our society come to such laziness, that all people want to do is sit in there pajamas all day long, and play/work on the computer?
I would go crazy is I sat at home all day on the computer, every day.
One of my jobs does deal with telecommuting, but my other job I have to get up and drive to work, and do nothing with a computer.
What are your thoughts? I by no means want to offend anyone, I just would like to know where the desire to sit at home all day on the computer comes from?

I am a writer and I am not lazy. I was working outside before I married and during the first months of my marriage, or rather most of the time was LOOKING FOR WORK. I have been telemarketing on the phone and after that I was delivering fliers and sometimes they would be very heavy and I almost broke my shopping cart a couple of times. I prefer working on my home, doing mylotting, writing on my novel, practicing my singing, doing my housework, cooking, and cleaning.
Now I am free from the fear of being laid off, the fear of my boss not being able to pay my wages, the fear that somehow because of my gender or that I am not a tall blond that I do not look enough for a receptionist, the fear that the chemicals they use is dangerous to my health. I always get dressed and I budget my time so that I am not all day on the computer, but why should I defend myself to you?

good for you you spoke up It is so easy for us posters to make blanket assumptions about people we do not know and have never seen.Even if you were on the computer in you p js heavens forbid all day. that does not make you a bad lazy person. good luck with your writing. I am an unpublished writer but do still write.

excuse me suspenseful, I believe you defended yourself to me because you felt you needed to. None of my discussions are meant to be rude, or cause harsh feelings. I said that at the end of my post, I dont ever mean to offend anyone. You said you work on writing your novel, and spend some time here on Mylot. It seems to me that you are not trying to make a living online, therefore this discussion should not upset you.

Hatley, I did not mean to make assumptions. I simply asked a question.
But I do believe if you sit at home all day playing on Mylot, in your PJ's you are simply lazy. So far no one has said thats what they do. Many people say this has been a source as a second income, or they do this to make a little extra cash because they are stay at home housewives/moms.
A questions is all I asked. I shouldnt place judgment about lazy people, but as I stated above, no one has proven to act in this manner.

I think its probably a mix of a lot of different people. I'm on the stay at home mom side. Even if I wanted to work, till I would pay for daycare I wouldn't be making any money. Plus I would have to find a job that would allow me to be here to put my oldest on the bus and be home to get her off the bus.

It's not about laziness but other source of income online. Lots of people are earning hundreds and thousands of dollars online. Having a 8 to 5 or 9 to 5 job is good but it's not the best out there!
I have a regular job but I plan to concentrate online later. The potential is so huge that we can't just ignore it.

A couple of great people to get information, support, and knowledge from are Darren the problogger (that's his blog about blogging, he makes somewhere in the $250,000 mark with blogs) and Steve Pavlina who has his own site (he did a project last year called the million dollar project and had enough visitors to his site that they donated over $1,000,000 to him). Steve is very funny and very much against working a real job.

Thank you. I am a little upset that one of the people who responded got pretty angry about this discussion.
Some people would go crazy sitting at home all day doing this! I just do it for interaction with others, and getting advice, and questions answered.

I work full-time (at work right now) but unfortunately got into some bad debts and am looking for extra money. Since I have a family too, I don't want a second job that would take away from time spent with them. Online is easy to do since I'm in front of the computer most of the day. ~Tink

In my situation i can not work because every penny i make in the real words comes from my husbands pocket so whats the point of working my a$$ if at the end is not worth it. thats only till i finish college and get a real job like well-pay not a min payment job.. this is why i look to earn some money online, i have to be at home all day long so instead of watching tv i rather try and make some money.

I think most of the people here try to make some money in the time they get as free time. i have a real job. i am active here only when i get some time. i like friends here, like to browse through discussions here. Its nice to have some little income as well.

Well for someone who did not want to offend someone, you did a pretty good job. I really think that you owe every one who works on this site and apology. No one needs to qualify their time with you. Maybe you are felling bad about yourself because you have to work online to make ends meet.
I do not know what the problem is or how you could be so narrow minded. Have you ever stopped to think that maybe some of the people that are on here are not able to go out and work, but are doing the best that they can for themselves. Well for your information, I am disabled and I take offense to this entire topic and you are no longer on my friends list.

Well thats good to know. Sorry to have offended you. Is answering discussions your only job? I didnt know Mylot paid that much.
My boyfriends brother is Disabled, and he decided to go back to school, from home. He also has begun to work from home, and I do not think he is lazy. He has a real job, he just works from home because he is not able to drive. My question addressed lazy people, and stay at home moms/housewives. I apologize for not including people who are disabled.
Also, this discussion addressed people that sit at home all day and answer surveys, or discussions like this. No where did it mention disabled people, so you shouldnt take offense to it.
Sorry to loose a friend over a discussion, but if it has offended you I understand.
Enjoy your time on Mylot.

I understand what its like to need extra money. Mylot is good for that, but what I dont understand is how people think they can make a living online doing things like mylot, and other survey sort of deals. One person did respond to this discussion, saying that with his 200 referrals he makes about $400 a month doing online things! Who knew you could make that much.
Anyways, I hope I can make up for offending you. I never mean to hurt anyones feelings, or offend people. That is not why I participate online.

Well for me its just simply something I do on my down time when I'm bored. trully enjoy mylot, its not so much about the money. I dont think their is anything wrong with people wanting to make money off the internet, if they can make money and survive then go get them! I dont really call it laziness.

I'm only 18 and I want to sign up for membership on an MMORPG and since my parents won't pay for me monthly, I need to try to get a few bucks a month to pay for it myself. I don't need enough to get a real job plus I have school so I just do this until I get about 6.95 every month and that's that!

I would rather be self employed in e-commerce type situation. I don't have an online biz now, but if I did it would be a create it first (cooking or art) and then market it online. Hopefully the creating part would occupy the majority of my time, marketing would be secondary.

I am sorry to hear that. My boyfriends brother has just recently become disablesd, and he can no longer drive. So he has decided to go back to school, and work from home.
My point is, I dont think Mylot, and other survey sites are "jobs" they are just something you do in your spare time. I haven't met anyone that makes a living online. People who work from home, are not lazy. People who site around answering surveys, all day... Well thats my question.

I'm by no means lazy, but I have scoliosis (spinal curvature) and arthritis, making it impossible to stand for more than a few minutes at a time. Walking is difficult, too, unless I have something to lean on and even then it hurts after awhile. After spending nineteen years raising my children, I'm now single and receive spousal support but have next to nothing in retirement as my ex-husband saved next to nothing for our retirement because he wanted a lot of material goods.
I have enough to live on but I need to throw as much money as I can into retirement funds. I do what I can to make money online and it all goes into savings and retirement. It's not much but it might make a difference between poverty and some level of comfort. I've tried to get jobs but everywhere I don't get the job I see they've hired younger, prettier women. But I still keep trying.
I don't take offense at your question; I've often wondered the same thing myself until I was faced with the necessity to make some sort of an income then found myself physically unable to do many things.
There are so many scams on the internet, the scammers are the only ones making any real money!

Instead of saying that I am offended by this, I am going to say that I respect your ignorance. I am a stay at home mother of 2, and spend quite a bit of time on the computer with profit. I am in no means a lazy person, nor do I neglect my children. My house is clean every day, laundry's done, kids are clean and dinner is ready when my husband gets home from work. I choose to spend my free time earning extra money for my family to be able to vacation and take my kids places, buy them things, etc. and not having to justify the expense by taking it out of our savings. Word to the wise - I don't sit in my jammies all day either, although if I did, I don't see anything wrong with that either.

I mentioned stay at home moms/housewives in my original question. Therefore I did not call them lazy. Please if you feel I said that, re-read my question. I know many moms, who would love to make extra money online when the kiddos are taking a nap. This is much different than the person who has no family, who is not disabled, and who wants to answer surveys, and discussions all day because they would rather not "work"

No bad feelings at all! I understand how it could be hard going from working all the time, to spending all of your time at home with kiddos! I believe you are right to stay at home with them. I think it is so sad that parents cant live on one income, and both have to work to support there family. Kids dont get the attention they used to when one parent stayed home with them.
Good for you for taking care of your kids, and being apart of there development!

Sorry, but sometimes I have to take my frustation of staying at home out! I've always worked, up until I had kids, and I know I am doing right by staying home with them, but sometimes I just miss "really working". No bad feelings, ok?

I do not know about other people but for me its a way to make some extra money to augment a very small social security check. I did my stint in working for twenty some odd years and am now retired. I know I am not lazy but I am handicapped and as such working now is almost impossible what with a leg in a brace and a useless left arm as result of having had a shoulder joint replacement plus nobody wants to hire a senior citezen with handicaps. anyway I enjoy doing four different surveys plus being on mylot. as for being on the internet and the computer all day yes it can be very boring but given my druthers I would rather do this than go hungry or have to borrow money from my son all the time. as it is he pays all the rent and utilities while his mom is just doing surveys it hurts me that I cannot any longer help with rent and utilities as I did when I was working I retired at age79l

i would speak for myself. looking for an on-line job is not being laziness.there are lots of people who are jobless, hard to find a regular job and the last option is to find a job on the internet. and some are their pay isn't enough to raise the family or their selves.like me I'm working right now but may pay is only enough for my daily needs. how about my future? i can't save with that amount of pay so i have to find another or a part-time job.for the guys out there don't under estimate their or our capabilities.there are lots of reasons why such things are done.

Well, you are right: staying at home all day does drive a person crazy! that's actually why i try to make some cash onine. I have been very ill for the past few months (well, years actually, but its gotten worse) and I actually had to drop out of college because of it. I never know when Im going to have a bad day or what time of day I might get out of bed, so I cant have a real job at this time. I have to live at my parents house for now, so I do things online to give me some connection with the outside world! Plus, a little extra cash is always nice.
