What Do You Do With Items That You No Longer Want?

I have been cleaning out my closets and I have tons of clothes, shoes, purses, boots, etc. I always let my family go through the items first then I take the rest to charity. I am a firm believer that family should always come first.
I have a sister in law that sends their unused items to the dump. What do you do with your unused items?
Do you have a yard sale?

I ask family and friends, I also save things for my church rummage sale and also donate to the Goodwill or the salvation army. You can also check with your local freecycle and see if anyone needs or wants the stuff. If you don't know what freecycle is, most communiies have them. You can do a search for freecycle in your area. Its just people who need or want or don't need things, they put the stuff up on free cycle and when someone sees something they want or need they email that person and they set up a time for the items to be picked up. Its a great way of finding a good home for unwanted and unneeded items. Its free to join and its all done on the computer except when the person picks up the items. My Daughter in law got a toddler bed for her boy, she also just gave away some baby clothes, everything is free. When I got the house I am in now, it was full of stuff. I had a sale, it was hardly worth all the work I put into it.

I used to take everything to Goodwill, but I've realized that there are a lot of people in need right in my own neighborhood. I started putting things at the end of my driveway. I've had people come to the door to ask if they could have things, even though the sign says free! I never put anything really broken or in bad shape out there. If it's really that bad, it goes to the dump; but only after I have harvested any bolts, screws or washers off of it. lol
I realize that you can't use these items for taxes like you can if you take them to Goodwill, but I enjoy doing it.

I offer things I do not want any longer to my family and i used to ffer them to my neighbors as well. If they went through it and there were things left over, I would take it and give it to the Goodwill to sell. I have also tried to selll things in a yard sale too.

yes, at times we do a yard sale for friends and neighbors to dispose of the things that we do not need. another advise is to sell it over at ebay. or go to an exchange stores that would exchange your goods for another goods in the form of food or other things you might use.

I have had several yard sales. Some went well and some didn't. I have recently sold things on Ebay that were of no interest to family and I did OK with that. Take Care my friend.

I don't usually have enough to get rid of at one time to have a yard sale. I'll set aside things that family or friends might want and the rest usually goes to charity or gets listed on freecycle. Some items get reused at home too. Old sheets or clothing can be cut into pieces to use as household dusting and cleaning rags. There are very few things that end up headed to the dump around here.

There was a time when I would give the items that I have purged to my family members. But, as most of my family members are habitual pack rats, I no longer give them anything! I don't want to feed that habit. I prefer to hold a tag sale and/or give it to the Goodwill store. Never having time for a tag sale, most of the items are brought immediately to the Goodwill store or to the Salvation Army.

I rarely have things that I get rid of, unless they are so far gone that they need to go to the dump. If I do though, I give them to my in laws to donate to Goodwill, so they can get the right off.

good day. I sell them on ebay since I have an account there. It may take a while but it sells and at one point or another for a good price too.

I've never had too much junk to start a yard sale, so I've never done one before. When I have stuff to throw out that can still be used, I just send them over to salvation army type of organizations. I need to sort out good stuff from bad stuff. I never donate anything with holes. If the clothes or items are already shabby and worn out, I don't mind throwing them in the trash already.

I bag them up for my husband to take to his mothers so that they can go through it. However if it sits in my house to long I take it to the these bins that we have located in certain spots that is something like a goodwill, but it is for the teens of the area. But I have a daughter and my husbands mom has 3 little girls so my daughters clothes hand down nicely to them. But I hate throwing away stuff there are so many people out there that don't have anything.

I stick stuff in bags and boxes then put them in my garage where they sit collecting dust.
It's sad, I know.
Some of the big stuff though, such as my old desktop computer, I just give to my friends if I know that they need it. I've been on the hunt for money though lately, so I'm starting to think that it's time to pull out those old boxes and bags and throw a garage sale party. Well, maybe not party, but you know what I mean. Anything that I don't sell gets offered for free to my friends, and anything they don't take is given to charity.

I only throw things out that no one could use. I also will give away to family. You can also sit it out by the curb with a free sign, and someone will usually pic it up. Also don't forget the people in nursing homes. They need clothing, and many other items. This Christmas My sister made candy and cookies, I bought puzzles and games, and bought diabetic candy. My niece donated stuffed animals as did the hospital she works for, My girlfriend also bought socks and small blankets for them. It was great to be able to do something for them. Many of them don't have any family.

i will actually have yard sales first, i'm actually having one on friday, but i will usually make around 1-200 dollars, then give the rest to goodwill. my friend once made 500 dollars from a yard sale, but she probably spent triple on everything she sold, she had a jlo jacket she bought for 80 bucks and sold it for 10!

If I can't give my unwanted items away to family and friends, then I usually try to sell them on ebay. Otherwise, I'll just give to charity.

Well, I springclean the house once a month, and that really is leaving no stones unturned. I do not like to keep unused or unwanted things. Some people like to keep old things just for the sake of keeping them. So, what do I do? We have a recycling collector around here who comes every week, so I just hand the trash over to them. Of course, the unwanted but in good condition things I will hand them down to family and friends. Like pram, TV, old furniture, electrical appliances, clothes, etc. Giving is always a better feeling than receiving.
