Do you prefer old Madonna or new Madonna?

I definitely prefer the old Madonna. Right now I'm listening to The Immaculate Collection. Her songs from the 80s and early 90s. I just like the songs better. I respect her for reinventing herself continuously over the years but I think now she should slow down a bit. I mean, the whole Madonna on the cross thing on her last tour was just tacky and to me it was a blatant attempt to stay 'fresh' and 'edgy' like she used to be. However, I think she has created so much fantastic music over the years and I'll always love her old stuff. What do you think?

I don't prefer either one. I like a handful of her songs but I've never been a Madonna fan. The songs of hers that I like are definitely from the old Madonna. I don't hear anything about the new Madonna. I know she had some songs out the last few years but I never hear them on the stations I listen too.

I definitely prefer the old Madonna, especially from the '80's.
I think she has gone too far off center now. She doesn't seem as fresh and edgy as she was, only appears to be trying harder.
Guess that being a 40 something woman in the music industry and competing with 20 something chicks isn't easy. I certainly don't envy her.

I too prefer her old style! Not just the music but also her persona - nowadays she seems very patronising and full of herself! i do admire her talent , her business sense and her ability to stay in fashion and repackage herself constantly - I just don't like HER nowadays! xxx

I agree with you, I like the old Madonna over the newer one. She was one of my favorite artist's in that time frame. She had some great dancing songs and videos too. Now a days I think she's gotten to be a bit boring. Maybe motherhood did that to her? We can only guess.

I am not really a fan of hers. It's a fact that she has a permanent spot for one of music history's very prominent figure. I would say I can't keep myself from going with the beat of her old and not so old songs. I just don't think she still has the magic now like she used to.

Hi coffeeshot,
I'm like you, I've always been a fan of Madonna's earlier music, but have gone a bit cold on the later stuff.
I think The Immaculate Collection embodies the best of her work, without a doubt.
In her younger days at least, Madonna's singing had a quality at it's best that was comparable to Elvis Presley. So I guess that Madonna was the Queen of Pop there for a while (though apparently that crown has been stolen by Kylie).
On the matter of Madonna vs Kylie, if it came to a talent contest, Madonna would win it hands down. But Kylie has probably got the edge with personal charisma - makes sense, seeing as how the Budgie started out as an actor and moved on to a singing career, whereas Madonna's career was much the reverse, starting out as a dancer, then moving to a singing in a big way and finally dabbling in some acting parts.
I think Madonna would have done well to follow Cindi Lauper's example and bow out of the game at her peak.

Yeah... me too, I like and love to listen to old version of Madonna. More energetic and sounding to my ears. Like these songs;-
Song 1 : Like A Virgin

Song 2 : La Isla Bonita

Song 3 : Live To Tell

But, for Song 2, she has been 'smashed' by her fan that she involved in lesbian group and the related activity. Ha! Ha! Ha! .... I don't know why. More worse, many fans compare her with another singer, Alizee;-
