A back molar had to come out and what a struggle my gorgeous lady dentist had to remove it. She levered away with one tool first and then took a breather and picked another tool. When that didn't do the trick she sent upstairs for yet another tool - a really BIG one this time. With the nurse clamping my head to the back of the chair my dentist worked away back and forth to loosen the roots and eventually with a loud crack it was out! We were all sweaty at the end of 30 minutes!! haha I had a good look at the old tooth. It had three curving roots about 12mm long and one root had snapped off and had to be pulled out later. The center was black and rotten under an old filling. Good job to get rid of it. But now the injections have worn off I can feel the pain! What do you use to kill the pain? Have you had some horror stories about tooth extractions?

I just had my back molar extracted a few weeks ago. It took me several days to convince myself that I had to face the dentist to get the tooth out. It had been aching a few weeks back and I had taken some medications to stop the pain and the infection. On the day it was about to be pulled, I was terrified. But then when I finally sat there and the dentist pulled it off, I didn't feel a thing. She was good! The bleeding stopped quickly and I didn't feel any more pain after the tooth was gone. But the dentist advised me to take ponstan for the pain, if ever, and to continue the antibiotics for 7 days.

Wow! You are soooo lucky! No pain eh? You are not just saying that women don't feel pain and men are all sissys? haha I don't know ponstan. What is the chemical ingredient base? We may call it something different in the UK.

I guess I was just lucky not to feel any pain after having my tooth pulled. Ponstan is Mefenamic Acid, and it's what dentists here prescribe for pain.

I have no advice to further kill that pain. I would recommend an extra strength headache/pain medicine, but the effectiveness maybe questionable. You may also want to employ an oral antiseptic (or oral pain gel). No horror stories over here Smacks. Just an understandable fear of going through something like that. So far, I don't have to.

You are sooo lucky and I really hope it stays that way for you. It is weeks now and the ache has gone but the gum is still very tender and splinters of bone from my jaw are working their way to the surface daily. Not fun!

I haven't been to a dentist for so long I don't remember exactly how long, Maybe 10 years or more. I know I should go and have a check up and get my teeth cleaned but I simply can't afford it. We have no insurance for the dentist so it would cost hundreds of dollars just for a check up and cleaning so if I needed some other work too, like a tooth pulled or a filling, it would cost way more than I can afford to pay. I think that dentists should be covered by our provincial medical insuarance but it isn't anymore and I don't think that is fair to us since it is still a medical neccessary.

Owwww, that sounds painful. I had my molars pulled out years ago and a root canal done a few years ago. The root canal itself didn't really hurt, it just made all the other pain go away - thank goodness. I know I have another one I have to get done. For both of them, one dentist had me take Advil and the other had me take Alive.

I've been using clove oil to numb the pain on my infected wisdom tooth whenever that gets too bad, you should be able to get that from any chemists here in the UK

You are right. Oil of Cloves is a very traditional remedy and it does work. Thanks for reminding me.

That is not one that I know but I may have taken it in the past without knowing the active ingredient in the pill. Many thanks for that info. There is nothing like an honest referral based on personal experience.
