become expensive. Even adding the movie channels to satelite TV seems expensive now. Do you watch movies the same amount or less? Do you rent, watch on TV or go to the movies? what are the prices like where you are? $8 adult cinema, $6 matinee, $4 for kids $3 a movie to rent $10 more a month on satelite for a couple more stations, $15 more for more than that, but it seems like they have the same movies over and over. AT my brothers, I only like about 1 movie a month anyway, so it doesn't seem like it would pay for me What's the best deal for you as far as movies go?

I use Netflix and love it! For a small fee, you can watch as many movies each month as you want. There is no set amount of time you are allowed to keep a movie, there are no late fees. You order the movie online, it shows up in your mailbox, you watch it, put it back in your mailbox, and the next one on your list shows up in your mailbox. It is VERY fast shipping too. I mail one movie back and the next one is in my mailbox within three days total. You can opt to get them one at a time, or 2-3 at a time so you don't have to wait.

That sounds really, really good as long as no one steals them out of your mailbox. How are the fees and doesn't the cost of postage cancel out any savings?

Wow! REally, just one monthy fee? Right now I can't afford another monthly bill (just got cut from 20 hours of work down to 16), but I will check it out for the future and I'm sure this has helped some people who didn't know about it and can afford it, thanks.

$4.99 a month and free shipping? How do they do that? That's amazing! Until my lack of funds stops, I won't be able to join, but once I get another job, it's definitely something to look into. Right now I'm just watching the movies we already have, but this is a really good idea. You see the commercials, but you really don't believe it could be cost effective with the price of mailings. Thank you very much for your idea. Take care

well we do rent movies once in awhile but not that often...what we do is go to the library (sure they may not have all the up to date movies, but you can still generally get a good variety and one that you havent seen!)

If you have a library near you, that must be really nice. Our nearest libray with movies is 25 miles away and miles away from where I go shopping (at least 4 maybe 5). When I used to live there, I used to borrow music tapes and videos. I didn't realize how lucky I was until I moved out here. I wish our tiny library had movies. For people who live near a library that has movies, that is the best deal. I hope people will go to their libraries and check out the movies. Right now, I'm only in that area once a week and they only loan them overnight or for a couple of days, but if I ever move back there again, I will definitely do that. Terrific response and an option I hadn't even thought about. I think you've done a wonderful service for many people today. Thank you very, very much. Nice to hear from you cher913.

In India too watching movie with your family makes the whole budget of the house go haywire. We have seen rise in prices amounting to almost 400% in last few years. A movie Sunday means 1000 Rs gone straight away from the pocket. I usually rent a movie and watch it on dvd then going to the theater as Indian movies have lots of songs so I usually skip those at home and just see the movie without songs.

You have to see an Indian movie to understand the difference between your musical ones and ours. Most of them do not have good songs, I will recommend you to watch 'Lagaan', "Dil Waale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge', 'Taare Zameen Par', ' Chak De' , These are good latest movies and have good songs too and As far as I know They are availbale in other countries in DVD's.

It sounds like I would love India movies, I like musicals (movies with songs) in the US. 1000Rs does sound like a lot of money when many people probably make less than that in Rs per day. Since you don't like sounds, it would make sense to forward them, but we have musicals that are almost all or entirely sounds. So you probably wouldn't like them. Take care and thanks for your response.

Well I have turned to Netflix to help me out. Now that I have it, there are SOME movies that I don't worry about seeing in theaters, i'll wait for them to come to Netflix (there are still some movies I see in theaters-dont wanna wait ;p) But Netflix has a lot of different packages to choose from, to fit your price range. They are actually pretty good deals with the amount of movies you get! I am currently getting 3 movies at a time (unlimited number a month) for $16.99. With this package I also have UNLIMITED time to watch their available movies on my computer But they have deals ranging from 8 at a time (unlimited) for $47.99 (i dont need that many!) to 1 at a time (2 a month limit) for $4.99. But I don't like that one! I might change my plan back to 2 movies at a time (unlimited) for $13.99 when I move =P But there are nine different plans to choose from!

That is sad and another sad thing that is probably a rarity and that is drive in theaters..There are a couple in the area, but they are at least an hours drive away and that is way too late for us, especially if we stick around for the second feature..

That's really nice. We had a historic theater here that was doing that, but they lost so much money that they went bankrupt. It's wonderful if a place can do that and still keep going. But historic theatres have more needs for money than modern ones. It's now with the historical society and they're trying to bring it back. Soon it will be a live production theater, I hope. Thanks for your response, and that is a cool option for some people who have that option.

Going to movie theaters is outragously expensive, especially for a family to do together. I don't like buying videos or DVD's because what do you do with it when you have watched it several times? We do the NetFlick thing for $4.99 a month and it works out to about 2 movies a week if we watch it and mail it out right away. This is the best way to go. What else we do it many of us have formed a circle that share our movies. We "trade" them to each other for another movie or DVD, and then when we all have had a chance to see what we want we donate them to the library to use. It has helped build up the movie section at the library and saved the library money so it can buy some of the newer movies that come out on video or DVD.

That's an excellent idea. My brother and sister - n - law do loan us out some movies and we loan some to them. We do like to see some movies over and over again. We don't buy the ones we think we won't want to watch a lot. But I had never thought of donating movies to a library when finished. We have donated them to a charity that sells them to get gas money to send a truckload of clothes to a mission. Thanks for the ideas, maybe we'll have to expand our circle and take care.

yeah, the prices of movie tickets are rising nowadays. as for me, i seriously find it a waste of money to spend like almost ten bucks just to watch a 2-hour show. i`d rather rent it outside and bring it home to watch. what`s more, it`s much more comfortable to watch at home. i mean the dvds are released quite fast,so one doesnt get left out even when his/her friends are discussing about a particular movie, right?

There's really no good deal when it comes to movies. I wait until a new movie gets played out on the movie channels to go to the movie channels that are free. Plus I work online at a site that gives me 6 movie rentals for 6 months. So I get to look forward to a movie each month. Plus if the premium channels are giving a free weekend, that's a huge bonus. I just fix my dvr to record most of them so I can watch later.

We hardly go to movies, unless it is a very good one and usually when it is someone's birthday. I can now get in on seniors, and most of the time, it is the movies my husband likes, the kind where the hero and or heroine are escaping flames coming from either an exploding building or a car, big major type of bad guys intent on destroying democracy or rule the universe or stuff like that. We do get the movie channels and some of the movies are repeats, especially what the country considers the best winners or shows their ideology. I do like women in danger, but even then these get quite boring. When we really like a movie, we will buy it on Dvd either hi definition or regular (have to wait until Christmas for the blu=-ray paper or Playstation 3) I do not like renting movies since we already get the movie stations, and it does seem a waste if the movie is a bomb. But if the movie is good, I would buy it. I am trying to get all my old favorites on dvd. I would like to get one with all the Alfred Hitchcock Movies.

I think renting is the best deal. The theater is expensive, close to $10 now, though I'm not totally sure since I haven't been to the theater in years. Premium movie channels from cable are expensive, and I don't have time to watch many movies lately. You pay the same price whether you watch all or none, and since I'd watch few if any, not a good deal for me. I'm not sure how much they are, but I think the prices start around $10 a month, and go up from there. You can't choose what movies are on when, so you never know if something you like will be on when you have the time to watch. When you rent, you can choose what movie to watch, and when to watch it. You can pause if you are interrupted. You can rewind if you missed something, or if you want to see it again because it was so hilarious. They are about $3 for one day for a new release, and $1 for an older movie. There are also rent one get one free deals sometimes. New movies come out on DVD so quick now that you don't have to wait very long to see a new movie. Though I rarely have the time to watch a movie, when I do, renting is the best way for me.

we get the movies bundle on our satillite. It's $20 extra a month but thats pretty much our entertainment. We have 4 kids 5 and under so we don't really get out too much. Occasionally we will rent a new release movie which here in canada costs $5 but during the week its 2 for 1, so that makes it better.

My husband and I love to watch movies, but, like you said, it is getting to be very expensive. The last time we went to the theater, it cost us almost $50 by the time we got the tickets and a drink, small popcorn, and snack each. Ridiculous! Now what we do is wait for them to come out on dvd at Wal-Mart. About a month or so after they're released, they're about $10, so we just buy them then and can watch them whenever we want. We also browse the $5 bin quite often. It's a lot cheaper to go to Wal-Mart, but a dvd and some snacks and go home and relax to watch a movie.

i must have to agree with the fact going out to a theatre is expensive,i currently am a mature student who enjoyed nights out at the cinema quite regulary, they charge regardless of a persons status and even more expensive for refreshments, here in england the local cinema charges £6 for adults and f4.50 for children, personally with having sky i would rather pay the extra for movie subscription to have the benefit of numerous movies for the month.

Maybe where you live, that isn't bad, but where we live, minimum wage is 7 dollars and 15 cents, but a movie is 8. So more than one hour's worth of work unless go during early matinee hours. But most people are working there. So in your area it probably works, so you can disagree for you, but if you look at all the responses before yours, you will see that people are trying to come up with alternatives and what they've come up with. When you're on Mylot longer, you will notice many differences between my country and yours (as well as one Canadian and I think someone from another country answered too). Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Just check out some of the others. Thanks and take care.

I watch movies less the older I get. I fall asleep right in the middle of a good movie or right at the end. We have cable and what is offered is "Charter on Demand" so that's our main source of movies at home. It's not cheap for the cable package but we both think it's worth it. I haven't been to a movie in years so I have no clue what the prices for admission are now.

A year ago, I would have been surprised at anyone falling asleep during a movie. Now, I'm lucky if I stay awake during a TV show. That's why I like video and DVDs, I can watch them when I'm more awake. We had cable, but the wind blew the lines down so often that we went with satelite. Thanks for your response and take care.

I have digital cable and I have many movie channels so I can and usual do see at least one movie a night. It is so worth it.These days are very few new films I want to see in the theater.I don't rent films because between HBO, Showtime,Encore I will get to see the "new films" when they air.The last time I saw a film in the theater it was 7.50.There is a system called Red Box where you can rent a DVD for 1.00 a night. And It all depends on what tier of cable how much it costs.

I don't go out to movies much anymore, gas is too high for one thing, plus the cost of a ticket. But there are certain films I really do want to see on a big screen, like today I'm thinking of going to see "10,000 BC," that's definitely something to see on a large screen with big, loud speakers. I don't have cable or dish, just network. So I visit Blockbuster to rent DVDs sometimes. I also buy DVDs once in awhile, if they really impress me, for whatever reason.

My family doesn't go to the cinema because its too much here. Our prices are the same as yours. We do however have the package on Satelite for the movie channels but we dont rent any on the pay per view because it usually ends up sneaking up on you and at the end you owe a ton of money. We usually rent a movie or 2 every weekend though. The store by our house rents movies for 2.49 a movie so I dont find that to bad. My hubby and I are big movie fanatics so we own alot of movies too and will watch them as well :)
