Why do people respond to dumb discussions? Are we to lazy to read?

I have notice here in myLot that, people write a simple little paragraph with horrible spelling, bad grammar (I'm not saying that mine is perfect)and they get like 10 or 20 responses. I have seem some great written post that no one answers to.
What is going? Is it because they are too long and you guys don't want to read too much?
I like to read, in my opinion I prefer a well written post that brings something to the table. Even if it not the best spelling, but it should be at least more than one line.

Hello cmofi123:)
I've noticed that too. A lot of people here don't have a good command of the english language because they are not from english-speaking-countries, like me. Being that, it is sometimes easier for us to talk than write in english. In written sentences, unlike spoken sentences, spellings and especially grammar errors are easily noticed. Grammars are hard to perfect, even I cannot perfect the grammar in my local language.
I guess this is one reason why some responses to discussions are short and doesn't seem to be well-thought out. Often, we really would like to fully express our opinions to topics but cannot find the right words or correct sentences to do it.
Sometimes, long-posts are hard to understand, especially when native english-speakers use slangs or colloquials (i think i misspelled the word)...For example, the phrase "I've got a bad hair day". While this phrase can have a literal meaning it may also mean "problematic or difficult day". Foreigners to english language would interpret it literally (like its really about "hair"). And they would get confused when the whole subject is not really about "hair" at all. Hence, a short reply to discussions with such..
I myself, am here because I like participating in discussions. I like expressing my views/opinions. Many times I get so engrossed in writing my opinions that I don't notice my grammatical and spelling errors. I love to read what people have to say about things, especially those from other countries. Bad grammar or wrong spellings don't hurt me, I just love learning the views of other people. Many of the discussions here are really very interesting, that's why we just post away (not for the money, for me at least) without minding the wrong grammars and spellings.
I'm sorry, I think I emphasized about grammars/spellings instead of the point about people starting a discussion with just one sentences...Well, I guess people who do such would just rather read other people's opinions than start expressing their own. And responders find it easy to reply to such one-liner topics because the point of the discussion seemed clear because of that one-line statement...

Hello :)
I'm from the Philippines. English is just a second language to us. I think Chinese people are generally friendly, I've met a couple of Chinese friends here :)

I believe that other's are still new, some of them still don't know and understand how things work here. But I for one have does my best to avoid those stupid dumb posts here, I prefer to post where I would have the opportunity to share my opinion in a proper and constructive manner.
As for spelling, some are believe they are in a race here. They thought that by answering on one-liners or in a text/chat manner, they could easily earn and make profit from out of it. Which most of us knows, which not gonna happen because mylot only honors those contributive posts that are well-thought of and does makes sense.
This has something to do with a person's mentality, those who are only motivated by the thought of making money with the promise of being paid here. That for me is a really desperate and pitiful move here, I believe that everyone should make effort from what they do here and maybe put a little thought about the topic at hand..

Actually it depends on many situation.
there are some people who just see Mylot as money making forum. What matters to them is how much post they can do in a day.
may be some are lazy to answer long post or writ long.
Also i have seen, I myself sometimes feel lost when reading a very very long post.
sometimes due to the way it is written, it is lost in between.

I think that it depends what the individual is in the mood for on any given day. I have had responses to simple posts. I have started more in depth discussions as well. Sometimes they get responses and some don't. It may just be random. You can never predict it.

Well, as you stated, people have their own preferences. Each one is unique. They have their own reasons why they reply to nonsensical posts and not to sensible discussions.
Moreover, It is obvious that 'dumb' discussions, as you put it, are easier to reply to than those that are well-thought, well-put and well-written. People want ease, remember? That's why they created machines to make life easier. Technology is the best friend of laziness, as my mother states. They don't want to read (yes, you are right) and they might be thinking that it's a waste of time if they read the whole discussion. They could post ten-folds of responses while reading the whole discussion.
So, the moral lesson is, let's make our discussions concise but at the same time sensible.
Happy MyLot-ing! :)

You will be glad to know that I was just looking at a really ridiculous discussion that had absolutely no thought put in to it and was just a copy of something that I have seen circulating the internet for years and I actually wrote on it that I was appauled at the amount of time it had lasted on the site.
There is nothing worse though than going to a discussion, especially that makes it onto the top discussions and you can see that no thought or effort has went into it.
It does state on the myLot guidelines that we should not make fun of people who have bad spelling because obviously that would be unfair but really, forgetting myLot guidelines, you do kind of have to ask yourself what someone who is not great at grammer or spelling is doing on a site like this where it is a very important factor.
I do not pretend to be a great speller but it is something that I put a lot of effort into be okay at, and I know that I often spell the same words badly but as soon as I know what those words are I make a consious effort to start getting them right.
I think it is Firefox that you can get an add-on for that actually highlights words that you spell wrong and can even suggest what the right spelling is of the word so really there are no excuses.

Some of it is laziness. I can attest to that with a few of my discussions. I'll admit I've taken length too far, plenty of times (I guess...) but one can easily see which discussions get the most comments: the ones that are shortest and the ones that are easiest to relate to. Or ones that have a significant enough impact on the person to merit a response.

Maybe they think they are just texting. LOL Many of us here were not really for a quality of posting many of us here were for a "must" posting, making many post as they can to get a higher earning. That is okey were all trying to earn a little if you think that what some of us is does not write well then don't respond it just choose what you want. You cannot blame them they are rushing maybe. It's okey as long as you understand what they are telling you. If you feel that they are not checking their spelling then just advise them to check their spelling in the tool bar. That's what I do. They got a lots of reply because the topic maybe interesting, funny, easy to reply I don't know their reason. Were just sharing our ideas, feeling, emotion etc... here.

I try to fill up the entire box when I'm responding to something, and if I don't have enough to say that would fill up the box, then I don't post it. I hate to feel like I'm wasting people's time and just being a lazy little lurker who dosen't even bother reading the posts. I don't always have the best grammar or spelling, but at least my writing is understandable (or so I hope it is!). There are some people on my lot that just don't care. They just want to make money and they don't realize that mylot won't make you very much money very fast. I use mylot because I post on forums anyways. It's just something I like to do, and if I'm going to do it anyways, I might as well do it somewhere that I'm going to get paid for it, right?

Well I know I have started at leaste one discussion with just a short sentence, it was to get info. So there was no need to go on and on, but usually I do try to put some thought into them. I myself also try to answer with more then just a single sentence as well, but if that is all I feel I have to contribute, that is what I do. I have found for me at any rate, it just has everything to do with the topic. Also has to do with, how I think and feel, I know when I am tired and do not do as well as when I am refreshed. So I suppose, there are many reasons for short or breif discussions and post. If I do not like something I just move on. There are to many interesting discussions I can spend my time on. Truthful I do not worry about the length, instead I look more at the response, and the value that holds. Long or short.
