Is rap 'music'? Is it really "Rhythm and Poetry" - music? (Poetry?
Rap is popular, because you don't have to learn music or learn how to play musical instrument. It's the lazy way into the industry and appeals to others with filth and violence lyrics.
However, rap music industry is big business. Is this 'rap music' - "gangsta rap" good for children ears? Maybe for the ghetto kids, to escape poverty and living conditions, using rap as a vehicle to leave an undesirable world behind. I think; rap music is a bad influence, especially for young children.

I agree with you and I fall into the same category. My favorite rapper is Tupac. And that's been ever since I've started listening to rap when I was little. I think if you take the music too literal you'll get caught up in all the hype and feel like you need to act out these things, but usually the person that is illustrating the story has either not lived what they are illustrating or has lived in the past. (They're not necessarily glorifying the events either just spreading the word of what's real). And it's very important for parents that are involved in their child's life to make sure you let your kids know what's reality and what's fiction. As well as, what they should mimic and what they shouldn't. And your kids should be taught not to imitate too much of anything outside of the household that you are raising them in.

It depends to the person who listen to it and to the contents or message of the song. If you are old enough and knews what is right and wrong then the music couldn't influence you, but for the child I think it is not recommended to listen to such music. Why not trie to listen rap songs but with a gospel message I am sure you gonna like it to. Try from Carman or Petra.

I don't buy that whole thing. Its like saying if you read fictional books you become who you read about. If rap music causes you to become a violent person then I am persuaded to think that you already have that demeaner and it wouldn't matter if you listened to classical, gospel etc.

I don't think it's bad for young people. There are rappers out there who talk about something nonviolent in their songs although it's been mostly associated with violence. It's just a misconception.

I am older. I love music and I will tell you...all types except for country and rap...but then, there are some country music that I do actually like. There is some rap that I do find myself actually liking. That being said, my girls do listen to rap. Some of it is offensive, rude, racist and violent. I don't like it. Do I think it affects my daughter? absolutely not. I think I have raised her to have a mind of her own. Her choice in music is her choice. I bite my tongue and listen and every now and then something crosses my ears that I have to admit I do like. Also...I have caught her listening to MY music. It is all art and freedom of choice. If I were a kid and my parents thought my music persuaded me to be a certain type of person, I'd be truly insulted. If you raise your kids to be accountable for their own thoughts and actions then you won't have a problem with who they hang with or the type of music they listen to.
