How do you RECLAIM your TIME and ATTENTION?

This is a very typical question. For many of us busy-mongers, we were always catching up with our day-to-day activities. You can be working an 8 to 5 job, a student pouring their head over the load of subjects or a parent with little tykes to look after. One very good example is my best friend. Ever since he took over his parent's business, he rarely have time for his family. What he did was to make a pact with his wife. His idea of reclaiming his time and attention was to spend it with her. His wife will bring his lunch meal to his office every weekdays and they will eat at the canteen together. They also marked Friday as their official date. They usually go out for a nice dinner, watch a movie or play bowling. What about you? How do you reclaim your time and attention? Do you prefer to spend it alone or with someone else? What do you usually do during this time? Or do you think you don't have that kind of luxury anymore? Do share your thoughts. =)

Though busy I am, I always have time for anyone who needs my attention. Fixed schedules aside, I bound to have time for myself. I just have to give up some meaningless luxuries to reclaim some lost time for myself. To get attention, I certain can get if I wanted it!

Are you sure? I would think most people just talk big and act not at all.

Hi Bighead, its the same for me. But my idea of a luxury is really simple. Read a book, catch up with friends or even go to my favorite hide out to spend some quiet moment. Hi Wizzy, I don't know what you are trying to say.

That sounds so anti-climax. The big boss eating lunch box at the canteen. Is he just trying to flaunt his loving relationship or encourage marriage? Can't the big boss afford an office big enough to have a snack table? For me, my time is quite my own. Sometimes I have things to do and my time is totally enslaved. Otherwise, I can spend it whichever way I want. I usually spend my time alone. How can it be otherwise when I don't really have any friends. Just a lonely person on this lonely planet in the universe. Looks like you still have a few cents short.

Whatever you like to believe is up to you, Wizzy. I don't need to defend my best friend. 30 decades of friendship is priceless. I do believe there is someone who is trying to reach out to you. But you don't seems to bother nor care for that someone. You chose to be lonely, my friend.

First can I say this is not meant to be a moan ( well maybe a wee one) I am so busy looking after people and taking them for some appointment or other that I never get time for myself)BUTwhen I start to feel a wee bit down about it I remind myself how lucky I am to still have them all with me. I bet if I did have time to myself I wouldn't know what to do wtth it lol xx ,

oh that is such a great idea, well my time is my own, as I don't work outside the house anymore, but I do have writing deadlines, and I will take a break to watch a tv program or talk on the phone or play a game of scrabble and answer emails.

Writing is your passion. Whether you are down with catching the deadline or not, I'm sure you're enjoying every minute of it. Keep up the good work. =)

I prefere to do this by reading my Bible as well as my Big Book from A.A. I usually do my reading right after I wake up and or late at night when there is no disturbances like radio TV or family around. Ever so often the wife and I get lucky enough to go out alone. Not too often as she works 6 days a week from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. The weekends are spent with our children and or grandsons so it is rare to have free time for my wife and I. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Reading Bible is a great way to greet the day. I wonder when can I ever do that. I mostly do it night before sleeping.

I think that's sweet that he takes time out to eat lunch with his wife at work and then sets Friday as their date night to spend together. As for me, well my husband travels alot and will be travelling a lot more this year, so when he gets home, he usually takes a few days off to spend with me and my son and that means alot to us. I also have plenty of time to myself during the weekday when they are at work and school, so I usually do pretty much whatever I want, as long as it doesn't interfere with my boys schedules.

Hi Maddy, Its best to do our stuff when we packed the little ones off to their school. I wonder what's the nature of your husband's work? He seems to be traveling often.

Until very recently, spare time was very difficult to find and so I have alot of appreciation for it. Regardless of how little time I have, I do find time for my friends because they are so important to me. I also find alone time to do my writing or reading or whatever I feel like. That too is very important because if I don't get it, I get very grumpy and not fun to be around. I have actually stayed up late in order to fit in much needed alone time because it is better for me than getting enough sleep. It is important to make time for the people you love and that includes yourself.

Hi sid, People tend to forget the importance of sparing a little time for ourselves. Like we need to take a break and catch our breathe, to refresh our clarity and renewed our energy. =)

My inner social child will tell me "you need to get out!" So I stop what I am doing and I do what that inner social child tells me to do(within reason of course...lol). I cannot stand being alone for too long. I do however warn people if I have to go into a temporary workaholic phase, such as now when it takes more time (12 hours a day average) to look for more work than it does to actually do the work. (I work at home). I can honestly say I would be screwed if I had kids though. I wouldn't be able to work as much as I do know. So that's why I am doing it.

Hi Jabs, Having kids shouldn't really be a reason for you to stop doing what you like. Its how you handle your time between work and family. You're still single, enjoy every moment while you can. =)
