Maybe, if you were born after 1985, this one isn't for you. I don't know though. I remember when music was just way better. Im not that old and I can hardly appreciate anything I hear. There are exceptions but for the most part most of this junk is mindless crap that radio is pumping into our brains daily!!! And I mean every genre!!! Hip Hop, R&B, Rock, everything is so commercialized and just plain dumbed down.... What happened here? Any insight? Is anyone else feeling my pain?

I see what you are saying, but I don't completely agree. Yeah, I do think there's a lot of less talented singers that get played on the radio these days. I mean, most of them don't even write their own songs! Plus many record companies just sign a person because they can use their voice to make money, and just their voice, not their song writing talents or style. But there are a few very talented artists that do get recognized these days, like Amy Winehouse, The Distillers, The Foo Fighters and Taylor Swift. I now it's argueable whether or not everyone thinks these people have talent, but they do get inspired and write their own songs and stuff. :]

Yes but even in the span of time between the two era's the music that was produced was just "better" in general. I believe then this may be the least intellectual generation in the history of mankind.

"What happened to all the "GOOD" music?" It became "old". It was also replaced by non-music (rap, late 90s rock, late 90s rap, other garbage). My opinion... society's tastes have become a large joke, almost like an overgrown charicature. On one hand, they complain about how destructive and negative it all is, but on the other hand, they eat it up with a spoon. -_- At least I have a few CDs and outlets without pitful music on them.

While you think some of it is clever, I've found some of the lyrics disgusting. I've found other "hits" pointless altogether. Its just a matter of preference. Isn't this what the discussion is about? -_-

While I do agree with you for the most part, what is your beef with "rap" in general. Rap is music as much as some don't like to admit. Yeah these artists aren't "singing" but they are putting clever poetry to music. Now some of this new stuff is "non music" to me I must admit.

Forgot to add. I will admit some rap is actually good. I've just been hearing more of the nonsense in the times I listed (90s to present). There have been a few items that do not make me rub my head in a facepalm.

The good music comes from the '80's and early '90's... the rest, what is out now, is pasturized, processed, and non-stimulating. I'm a Depeche Mode-alternative-techno-semipunk fan, and no one but them knows how to do that anymore... no matter what station I turn on, it all sounds like the same song lately! And there are so many mash-ups around... not of recent music, but of '80's music... the knowledge that it WAS good, and the desire to bring it back, are obvious. People like Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, et al, are still performing to huge crowds all over the world. We need to get past the 'celebrity', and get back to the talent!

You're kidding, right??? 'Tainted Love' was Soft Cell... Depeche Mode did ONE cover in the 25+ years they've been performing... that was a little bit of music for a movie, and was never released as a separate recording. How about: Studio albums 11 ?Live albums 3 ?Compilation albums 8 ?Singles 49 ?B-sides 42 ?Video albums dvds 10 ?Music videos 57 ?Tribute and cover albums by others 9 Ever hear of Personal Jesus? Enjoy the Silence? People Are People?

You can't forget about the seventies man! 80's music was crazy but we all can admit to loving that stuff. Real commercial stuff. I grew up in the 80's man so I feel you. More of a hip hop head myself though Depeche Mode did have a joint I liked. Remake of "Tainted Love" was them right?

I've said this before, as I do make my own music, I never hate on anyone for making the music. But I am entitled to dislike it if in fact I do not like it. I agree with you though and I invite you to check out my music. http;//www.myspace.com/fammusicinc

I totally agree with you and I was born in the 80's so 'should' like all the modern stuff but dont. I am a die hard elvis fan love all the 60's 70's music even music going back to the 40's. I was brought up by my grandparents who had a love of music and there music grew on me too and therefore I have an eclectic taste in music, But I mainly love the oldies :)

I think all because of money. When music goes with money it becomes "Commercialized" as you said! The real music is still somewhere. I hope one day I can find more and more and anywhere! Not only for commercial ! And not damage my ears ! And not wash kid's brain!

There's a finite amount of good music, and it was pretty much all used up by the end of the 80s. :) Actually, I think there is a lot of good music, but it just doesn't get much air play, compared to whatever the big labels are paying the radio and TV stations to play.

You know thats a good point. A lot of good music isn't getting heard at all because of the overcommercialized media won't play it. Probably cats with studios just like me are at home creating masterpieces and we will never know. This would truly be the best response had I not already picked one. Thank you for that.

Hey shamsta, You and I can totally agree on this one! Lol. I was just talking to my kids about this. Today's music is not nearly as creative or well put together as music back from "the day". I remember sitting and actually listening to an album. Really listening to it. Listening to every note and evey word. Thinking about why they said that phrase like that and what did they mean by that. And how cool it was they way they used their instruments. They made music that had never been heard before. Today's 'artists', for the most part, are just rehashing things that the musicians from our generation have already done. And why shouldn't they? Today's listeners don't really listen to music they way we did. They listen on their iPods while they are doing everything else. The music is just background noise of their lives. They don't even listen to all the songs. They either skip around the CD listening to the songs they like or only upload select songs to their iPods. We listened to the WHOLE ALBUM. Maybe that's the reason. Since kids today only listen to the songs they like the artists are trying to make every song likeable. I don't know.

It's like is you have a hot (or semi-hot) beat and a catchy hook, IT'S A HIT. And it ain't. I cannot believe some of the songs I hear and I say to myself, "this is garbage this group'll never last." Next 6 months they blowing up like Micheal Jackson in the 80's. And it's garbage and the kids are eating it up because it's drilled into the heads 24/7 and the education they are supposed to be receiving is not. I think anyone with intelligence would not like any of this stuff.

The music in the 60's, and 70's, the people really were singers. They had class, and style. The music now, I do not many singers now. Hip Hop-just forget it, R&B-not many I know, Rock-is OK, .Frankly, sometimes, I would listen to C&W before Hip Hop.

As stated, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Even I am upset at the current state of Hip Hop, and music period right now but in general you are right. The artists of old had more class, the music had more meaning and substance.

There are some points i agree with and some don't First i disagree if you say this junk is mindless crap. Please show more appreciation to the artist, making music is not easy and needs inspiration, so even if you think it's bad don't label it as junk. I would guarantee you yourself would not like it if your work is called "mindless junk". No offense, but if you happen to not like something, then don't instantly call it junk. Just don't hear it However, i agree with your commercialized point. Actually, i see so many talents and good music makers these days, it's just that they sign up to major labels, and usually those guys demands the Artist to do what the fan like, so the label will get much money. In the end, the music itself is not of the artist, because they are "forced" to make music. When those artist don't put their hearts into music, well, the result will not be that good An example is American Idol, with new idol produced every year, the previous idol's competition is tightened, because then every year they gain new competitors, and it threatens their income. When the drive is to make money and not music, The bad thing happens and it is usually what we hear today Just my insight, Correct me if I'm wrong

Not wrong for your opinion and Im not offended by your honesty. And Im sure there are plenty of people who hate my music but they cannot say it has no substance! They cannot say there was no thought put behind the work I've done. I respect anyone for putting in the work to produce the music of course, I'm a producer but I just don't like a lot of what I'm hearing and I can't help but to say so. It is just my opinion.

To a certain extent I agree, but to a certain extent I completely disagree. Mainstream music in my opinion has declined fast, but the underground has always been good (though I'm not too sure about the underground before the 70's). The commercial sound has ruined mainstream music, but there are still talented artists, but the decline of the average intelligence has forced us to be listening to simplistic garbage.
