Is Belief In God Alone Enough?

I don't go to church, I don't feel I have to. I do pray and I am baptized catholic. My husband is not baptized but he believes and prays to God as well. Do you feel that the belief in God alone and praying is enough? I think it's fine, as long as you believe it should be fine.

Belief isn't good enough. Belief without action is... well, nothing, really.
If I believe that being a good person doesn't make me be a good person and do good to others, then that amounts to nothing.
If I believe that thinking ill of others is bad, but I'm thinking bad about them anyway, then shame on me.
Belief in God, belief in the good that should come out of it, and doing good should come together.
In one of The Matrix posters is printed "Belief is everything", but I just realized now that it's not everything. (The Matrix is an all-time favorite, by the way =')

wow Thank you Tetchie =') I appreciate it. Admittedly though, I'm not always doing good, but I somehow manage to avoid doing the bad things :'8 It's not the best, but I sometimes hope it's good enough...

Rockvixeo I also believe that believing in God and Praying to him is enough. He said He whoever believes in me shall have everlasting life, am I correct?

my ex fought about this a few times... cause as for me, as long as i believe and know in my heart that i fear God and i fear to do what i believe is not right, i do not need to go to church and be with hypocrites who show to people they are religious but live otherwise the moment they leave the church.
i am not a regular church goer, but my life depended so much on God and i talk to him, pray to him in all possible ways i know of. but he's told me that faith is goodm, prayer is good, but God wants us to also go to church and worship him. cause we also need to hear the words of God...
i don't know about this but anyone who could clear my mind, please do.
i am a believer... but not a regular church goer.

There is a saying, 'you are what you think' or 'what you think, so you become'. I think the only goal of any (religious or spiritual) activities related to God is to enable us to always think of God. Praying; going to church, mosque, temple, reading bible or other scriptures, everything is for remaining us to always think of god, for dominating our mind with thought about God. By that way, you can gradually "duplicate" Him, at least, you can achieve His Divine qualities.
I'm also baptized catholic, but I don't think going to church is the only way to attain the true goal. Even I don't believe going to church is the best or the most effective way. Even I wonder if we can attain the goal by going to church.

I think that its more than just belief I think that whatever you and your higher power (in your personal case God) have decided and arranged between you is just that BETWEEN YOU...Nobody has the authority, right or business to tell anyone else how, when, where, how much etc to be faithful or religious and quite frankly, ppl who DO try to force their personal choices on others are a disgrace to whatever religion they follow.....
Bravo to you for having the relationship that you do with god...its obviously what works and is right and that is ALL that matters

I personally don't believe it is enough to just believe in God. And I certainly don't believe it's enough to quote scriptures to every Tom, Richard and Harry. It's not enough to get brownie points coaxing other people to believe in God too just because you believe.
Belief itself doesn't make a person amazing. It doesn't make you the best you can be. I do believe in a Divine source, but I also want to find that part in me and belief alone will not achieve that. Belief is fine, but following your own truth and integrity has to be added to the equation. Being the best you can be, and loving yourself wholly so that you can be in that image to people around you. Letting that Divine source help you in the process is what helps us be the best we can be. I don't go to church either. Good question.

Its YOUR life Rockvixen. No one can tell you right and wrong for you in a matter like this. I can only say, your choice is one you are comfortable, and I believe its a good one. There is no need to detail your faith, explain it to others, or somehow find acceptance from others. There are times none of these will happen when dealing with people (especially the hardcore non-religious and the hardcore religious). Whatever you have decided, whatever you feel, whatever you believe, you should follow it as you see fit. And even if you require opinion or thoughts on it, most rational people will be supportive [[heh, maybe I should just come out and say "I believe its fine" :)]]

Belief in God alone cannot get things done for you . You need to work hard with deligence to accomplish your goals in life . The only thing god can do is to guide you through the hurdles . He can invoke a sense of confidence when it is atmost needed . It is general belief that if you are good , good things happen to you .In this fast paced world where people can slip into bad company or ideas , a faith in God can pull you through . So the perfect recipe for success is lots of hard work with good thougths galore, coupled with faith in God .

Hon, I was brought up a catholic and my mother is very religous. At about 7 years of age I rebelled. I was told that I had to confess my sins. What sins do a 7 yr old have?
The priest had to come out of the confession box and walk around the church with me. He asked me why I wouldn't go into that horribly musty box and confess my sins. My answer was - where is God. He said all around us. So, I said, why can't I just talk to him direct? He's listening isn't he? Ahhh, said the priest but to be forgiven for your sins you must come and talk to me! Hmm, said I, if God is Almighty as you say and can hear me and know when I really mean what I say and pray for forgiveness then that's what I'm going to do. My mother was horrified. I never went back to church (although she had a good try at forcing me) nor to confession.
Honey, just do what you feel is right. God is everywhere and if you believe in him then he is with you...
