When i was a kid..i really had no aim of what i wanted to be.. With time passing by i saw my elder brother who is very good at computer hardware configuration so i dreamt of being a Hardware Engineer. Infact that was my aim .. But with time passing by and as i cleared my high school i was sent to a differnt city for coaching.. So then began the quest for my Engineering..But i still didn't know the exact line where i wanna go.. As i came into a college i decided to be an Electronics Engineer with my graduation in the same field. so i graduated as an Electronics Engineer but since now i m working in an It company. i m a Software Engineer.. So there is a drastic change in what i wanted to be and what i am.. Did this ever happen to you? What did you dream to be? And what you are? Not really in terms of profession but ever in your life.. Did this ever happen that what you dreamt of and what it turned out to be were mutually exclusive??

When I was a little girl I wanted to be an archaeologist. I would like to be a forensic anthropologist but I do not feel that I would be able to earn my PhD in anthropology and thusly I would only be able to teach anthropology in a university. I have already decided that I do not want to teach (after three years of university education). I am now thinking that I would like to open my own business. Perhaps a craft store or something along those lines.

Well i dont have much idea about the work of an archaeologist.. but what i feel about business is that its all bases on risk and moreover it would be a period full of tensions when you open up your new business... Moreover no weekends to enjoy.. hey i don't mean to say anything against you but i just feel that i won't be able to cope up with that pressure.. I wish that you do and be successful...

I know that it would be very difficult and stressful to start my own business but I really do not think I can stand working for someone else. Also, where I live the only jobs involving sewing are hemming people's pants. Archaeology is when you find artifacts and analize them and date them. That kind of stuff fascinates me.

There are many options for starting your own business. You have to find what's best for you. If you don't love it you won't be successful. You have to believe in what you're doing otherwise you won't put in the effort to make it work. You have to have a deep desire that makes you want to do this no matter what happens and no matter how much opposition you face. What makes you cry, and is it what drives you to make the business you choose work? When you start your own business there is almost always a reason why you do this. It has to be a strong reason otherwise you give up on your dream of owning your own business. Just some food for thought. I've started my own business and it's not a multi-million dollar business yet but that's not keeping me from continuing to work hard to get it off the ground. You have to start at the bottom before you can reach the top. There's lessons that are learned along the way that help to make you and your business better. Go for it! Dare to dream and then don't give up on those dreams! They can come true if you're willing to work hard enough for them.

The first thing I can remember wanting to be was a teacher. By the time I was in 5th grade, I started admiring emergency personnel so I wanted to be a doctor, nurse or paramedic. By the time I graduated high school, I had been accepted into the nursing program at Seattle University and thought I would have a career in a few years. Unfortunately, I did not do well in school so I dropped out. Now I am teaching English, but I have recently completed an HR degree and hope to find a job in human resources soon. I don't know if one is exclusive of the other, but if I could put the teaching and HR together that would be great!!!

I haven't gone into that kind of job yet, but I would really like to. I just wish I knew someone who could help me get my foot in the door. Teaching in China is just a way to make money until I am able to get that dream job. Thanks for the response.

Well, this has actually happened with me. From the beginning I have been facinated by computers like anything. In the mid of my primary schooling, I used to like to become an astronaut and wander in the sky...like something which I have always wanted to do. But very soon it drained off again and I am right now back to my wishes of becoming a computer engineer, and a software engineer in specific. I wanna master computers and tame them for my use. However, to be honest, I am still not so transfixed at this, since, I believe, computer has been tamed by so many people, and as I want to do something really unique, I guess, I am not still ready to accept this. It is however, my wish to do something which will really influence the world and my work. Right now, am fixed to Computers, but I can't guarantee this for future.

But don't you think those people start bragging you more when you don't perform according to what you had planned? Anyhow its our life.. We should have the right to live it our way. Stop bothering about other people yaar.. Anyway .. have fun.. and i wish you achieve your goal

No one is ever certain about future yaar.. Who knows you might wake up next morning with a brilliant idea to bring a revolution in the world of computers.. I know its very easy to follow the crown and its too difficult to go against the tides. And anyway there is a hell lot of time to come to start thinking about your future..

well, there is time, and plenty for me too, vipul...but it feels good to have something planned. atleast you cant talk about that to people who keep nagging with "What are you planning to do in future" lol... It even helps to brag around! lol. Well, I really think I am going to end up in Software Enginerring or in IT. But who knows, future might hold better tastes!

hello vipulchawla Since I was a child, I was always in awe of flight stewardess. And I promised myself that someday I'll be like them. But reality gave me a wake-up call. For one thing, I don't have the height needed. And second, I don't have a perfect vision. So, my next dream was to become a nurse. At that time, I was fond of watching shows with hospital settings. And I wanted to experience how it feels to work in a hospital and be faced with emergency situations. But here in my country, it's a little expensive to go through nursing school. Even if it was hard for me, I turned my back on that dream and pursued a less expensive course but will still give me the chance to work in a hospital. And I took up a course in Nutrition and Dietetics. I got to work in a hospital even for a short while but then I got married and had a child. And now, looking back on what I first wanted to be since I was a child, it's a lot different. For one, I'm not working. Because I've been a stay-at-home mom for almost 6 years now. Sometimes, I still miss going to work in a hospital but even if it's a lot of hard work doing what I do now, 24/7, I'm happy and content.

Well .. its all about being content with what you are.. I can understand how much difficult it would have been to give up your job which you loved for a reason which you could not have ignored.. U have many other responsibilities being a mother and i m sure u must be performing your responsibilities very well.. Hope you do get an opportunity in the future to pursue your aim..

Thank you for thinking that I'm doing a great job in handling my responsibilities.I'm still determined to pursue my dreams when the right time comes. I just hope that I'm not too old to get my job back when that time comes.

You know, i always find it funny when I am asked what I dreamed to be when I was a kid. They expect answers such as being a doctor, a lawyer, an engineer and all those stuff a kid could dreamed of. Oh well, I guess I am different, I wanted to be a Beauty Queen LOL. The beauty and brain thing. When I am about to enter college, I wanted to be in Communication- Broadcasting and so I follow what I desire. Now I am working, I can apply communication but I had the feeling that I am gearing towards management. Life, and its changes... =)

By the way even i did my graduation in Electronics and Communication but i turned out to be working as a Software Engineer.. Anyway .. hey what about your dream of being a Beauty Queen.. ??

I remember when I was about 5 wanting to be and archeologist. I think partly because we saw some on holiday in Italy and it looked like they got to play in the sandpit all day! Starting secondry school I wanted to be a tv camera operator or work in television. I've now started my degree, which is in Drama and now hope to be a lighting technician for theatres or even live bands if the oppertnity arises. But I've got another 2 years of a degree to go so who knows whereI may end up! Looking at it so far I'm pretty far away from the days of an archeologist.

Well 2 years is still a long time to come.. It can even happen that even after completing your degree in Drama you may turn up working in a different field altogether.. That is what happened with me..But i still hope that this doesn't happen with you. So its just a hint how dreams keep changing from childhood till we grow up..

This clause defines it all. Anyway ..Would love to listen to your story.. i mean would like to know about you in future if you get time to..

i have always wanted to be a lawyer or a psychologist. i dont know but i have always thought that i'd make a good lawyer... I tried an exam in a school i always wanted to go to in college. i got declined for the course i intended to take and that kinda disappointed me. :( i went to another school, took up Management information system and there.. i was seeing a future of project developments. it was kinda nice to think of... dream of being in a team working on projects with laptops and all... when i graduated, i worked as a customer service rep... got promoted as reports analyst.. now im in workforce management and a supervisor. it was all better than i have started... mybeing supervisor is as close as i can get to project developments.. my company gave me about 17 people to manage in the past, now they have re organized.. im down to 10 people :( i was really sad to let them go but i guess its just how things are. we do not always get what we want or dream about.

as for me, i wanted to be an architect since i saw my dad's sketches. He used to design our house or studio but he had no drawing background (he only graduated high school). and as time goes by i decided to be an english teacher since i love english very much. so here i am, bachelor of english education. after working here and there, i began to realize that the most important to me is not chasing career, but to have a happy family and be a good wife and mother. i let go of my jobs and here i am, happy to be a wife and hopefully soon i'll be a good mother. I think that no matter what we are now, it is meant to be that way. And that's the best of what we should have in this life. I never regret it though :)
