Why many students prefer to cram their requirements?

I've got a couple of friends, if not all, like to cram papers, exams and assignments rather than doing it ahead of time. I have asked several and they usually say that they could get away with it (or even get a high grade) so why not do it all the time. Any insights?

yes we always did that until now...next week would be our last week of class and then it also our finals...but you know what our projects is feasibility study and socio economic profile of every barangay in our town...until now i am confused how to start the project next week would be the submission and our finals...no time to study for the finals...i would prefer cramming...i got a higher grade because of this...i don't know if i can make it if i do it in advance.

i agree, sometimes trying to do it in advance would eventually lead to a "well, i've got plenty of time, so there is no rush" statement and would end up cramming afterwards. Study habits vary greatly, but I know few people who could really do things in advance and sometimes I tend to envy them...
