Protein with each meal...

For the past couple of years, I've been doing my best to make sure that I eat protein with each meal. I've read that by eating protein, along with your carbs and fat, it helps to boost your metabolism and helps speed weight loss.
Unfortunately it's not always easy to have protein handy when you're on the run... so I started drinking the Special K Protein Water.
Do you really think drinking protein is as good as eating it?
I'm sure it's better to at least drink some protein water than to not have any protein with your meal at all, right?
I'd love to hear what you think.

Due to my sugar issues, it was recommended that I eat as close to 50% carb to 50% protein with each meal. And yes, it can get interesting coming up with new things. I haven't tried the protein water, but I do drink soy milk which as most know is a good source of protein. Some of them even taste good. However, I try to keep cheese cubes handy and fruit or veges. I have found a great lunch in salads with chicken and beans, such as garbonzos or kidney beans added to give me the protein and I use salsa instead of regular salad dressings. Salsa is delicious and doesn't have all the calories of salad dressings.
How is the protein water?

Is that Special K water any good? I mean does it work as far as filling you up because I hate feeling hungry more than anything. Yes protein is good for you, it helps speed metabolism and helps build muscle. I do my best to get my protein in, not always easy and of course my first choice for a snack would be a carb but for something late at night if you are starving, protein may be the best option. Like for instance I have an egg.

Protein with each meal, and at bedtime too is a good idea. In my opinion there are other sources of protein that give you more bang for your buck, so to speak. I guess one positive is that the Special K water keeps you hydrated, and it gives you 5 grams of protein for 50 calories. Other good sources of protein are things like mixed nuts, hard boiled eggs, peanut butter. I know how hectic things can get, though. For similar reasons, I will drink a can of Slim Fast and eat a piece of fruit while driving from my day job to my evening job.Not the best choice, but not a terrible one, either.

Having someone with peanut allergies in the house adds a whole nother dimension to the question. I know the Special K water is probably very safe for her.

Oh I agree that it's better to have natural sources of protein. I'm basically using it for the times when I know I don't have any around, or to add to my daily diet when I know I haven't had enough for the day. And, for my daughter who is allergic to peanuts, we think this is really good for her.

I have been eating string cheese and light yogurt and granola bars for lunch. I haven't noticed any added benefits. I still am chubby and have no energy. Am I eating the wrong kind of protein? I don't really prefer meat. Maybe all the snacks provided by the families at the nursing home are responsible for my continued chubbiosity.
I have tried the pink lemonade protein water. I was not impressed.

A lot of granola bars have plenty of sugar and fat, even if they call themselves Light. I have clients I help shop, and most yogurts have more grams of sugar than my girl is allowed because of diabetes, even if artificially sweetened. I hope we all find some magic that will get rid of the chubbiosity. I am just too old for it.

Well, I'm almost 45, and since my mid 30's, I've noticed that I just can't cut back on food and expect to loose weight... I have got to exercise. I used to be able to just cut back on sweets and drop 5 pounds with no problem, but not any more! lol! Now if I don't exercise at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes, the scale will not budge. If I'm really serious about losing weight, I have to exercise even more in addition to cutting back on the sweets and watching what I'm eating.

I do not know if we can get Special K Protein Water in Canada. I do drink milk at night and around eight in the evening I will have yogurt plus fruit and nuts. I have protein with every meal, but my weight has stayed at 215 to 217 lb. and I wish it would get lower. I guess I will have to do more walking to get it down. I have wanted to get Special K but my husband goes with me and he will not get it.

Drinking milk helps... but you have to get moving! lol! I'm almost 45, and since my mid 30's, I've noticed that I just can't cut back on food and expect to loose weight... I have got to exercise. This diet business is very tricky.
There is no question that you have to consume at least 40% protein in your diet.
By drinking protein water which can be easily digestible you don't lose calories which you otherwise would have if you had proper food protein. consequently also consume less carbs & fats. Also have complex fibrous carbs not simple carbs like rice & potatoes . The complex carbs are the crunchy veggies like broccoli , cabbage & the cauliflower. the body spend a bit of Cal's in digesting them.
Also by having protein water for a long period of time the body looses a bit of its ability to digest & absorb food protein.
You can use protein water combined with other protein, but not as a complete standalone protein diet.
Also there is no substitute for exercises like weight training & Cardio.
So Guy be careful.

First of all, I'm a girl, not a guy! lol! jk... I agree that it shouldn't be a stand alone, that I should continue to eat other proteins too. I've been exercising a lot at the gym. I joined about two weeks ago and I'm loving it! I alternate between the treadmill and bike one day, and weight training the next. It's helping!

as long as I get some meatthru the day I think I am safe.
BUt then maybe not I dont do it every meal. they do have a breakfast drink you make with milk that helps with people on the go and its easy to fix and ya can drink it on the run.
I just donr see how they get into water But looks to me like drinking it would getinto system faster that eat for it take so long to eat.

i think it's always best to get anything your body needs from the source, not in supplements. however, in our hectic lives at least there are supplements. i like the special k water, it's pretty good stuff! and i know we have to get all this water drank everyday, that's hard too, so you have to find ways to down all that water! i dunno. i think if you find something that works with your lifestyle, go with it! at least you're thinking about your health right!

If your trying to eat/drink protein. You should also try to work it out! My trainer told me that the more muscles you have the easier it is to lose weight. I don't know where you get the fact that eating protein along with carbs would boost your metabolism, but in my book... it would only make you fatter! I mean... if you don't work it out that is. Anything of excess would just turn into fats.
About eating rather than drinking, I suggest to just eat normal foods if your not going into a gym... You don't really need to be faithful into eating protein every single day as it doesn't really help you lose weight.
Protein shakes are specially designed for body builders and unless your in that category... I say don't bother. Sometimes... it can even give you nasty side effects... like having pimples or something, if your sensitive to those stuff that is.
