Ok so you all know - well, all that know me :) - that we like to make milkshakes. Strawberry, pineapple, mango, etc. etc. etc.... Sometimes we make a bit too much than what we will drink and I used to keep it in the fridge for later and then blend it again when I wanted it. But it wasn't as good. A few days ago I had quite a lot left over and decided to put it in a container and freeze it. Well when we remembered about it the next day, my daughter looked at it and said it looked like ice cream. So she took a spoon and started eating it. Well, it was really good and now we always make a bit extra to eat as an ice cream. We even let it freeze, then blend it again, then freeze again and it comes out nice and creamy :) Have you ever tried this?

I haven't tried it, but now I want to! That's awesome! I love milkshakes too, though I haven't made any recently. This gives me an excuse both to make milkshakes and try out your "ice cream"! Thanks for sharing!

Hey you guys! You can buy yourselves some frozen yogurts. Use them to make milkshakes or smoothies. Choose flavors that you want. Hey, I would use low-fat/sugar-free. Also choose skim milk. To me, regarding my health, I choose light/fat-free/sugar-free/skim. I am still concerned about my cholesterol. So I would choose skim milk and light/fat-free/sugar-free frozen yogurt. That way I can make myself a big thing of light smoothie. That is awesome!!!

LOL the good thing about it is that they have much less fat than real ice cream . I don;t make my milkshakes with ice cream just fruit, milk - can be 1% - and ice - and sometimes a spoon of yogurt. So the result is something like ice cream but less calories :):)

I have not tried this. Sounds good being as though I like you have leftovers. The kids want milkshakes until you make them and then don't want them. Thanks for the ideas.

WE really like it:) The first one wasn't as creamy as ice cream, but it tasted great. THe ones we use yogurt to make the milkshake are also really good.

YOu sure can make Popsicles from it, and the best thing about it is that unlike most ice cream with lost of fat and calories this way you can reduce both a bit, either by using 1% milk or even soy milk. OR you can do it even better and make a smoothie instead of a milkshake - just fruit juice, pieces of fruit, and ice, and a bit of banana to make it really thick. Thank you can freeze that as well and voila !!! Great dessert:)

Interesting... I am exactly the opposite... we make ice cream at home and then we let it melt down (or don't freeze it as long) and then add some fruit to it and eat it like a sorbet or we put the fruit in a blender with the ice cream to make a pseudo-milkshake. Great question. Zelo

Now that is a good idea as well :) I like the milkshake turned into ice cream because I can use any kind of milk even soy or 1% so it's less fat, but home made ice cream is a whole different story. I was never able to actually make it but I am sure it has to be so much better than the ice cream we buy!!! Is it difficult to make?

Well, with me around if you made chocolate or strawberry there would be no such thing as 'too much' I would take care of that :) But, yes I have actually done this a few times when my son couldn't or didn't eat all of his shake he'd put it in the freezer for later which never came for him because I would end up eating it :)

Oh, yes, I always make extra for ice pops! But the "milkshakes" I made don't have any actual ice cream in them, they have the consistency of milk shakes but are made from frozen fruit cubes blended in soy milk or regular milk or in the case of my favorite shake, sweet potato blended with milk and a splash of agave syrup. Mmmmmm.

I don't use ice cream on my milkshakes either. Just milk fruit and ice - sometimes a bit of yogurt. That's why I find this "ice cream" better than the normal one, not only for the taste but also less fat :):) I love sweet potato, maybe I should try that milkshake :):)

Yes it works with smoothies too, we tried it :) I use any kind of juice : orange, pineapple, apple whatever, and then banana ice and whatever other fruit I want to add. WE specially like "orabana" which is just orange juice, banana, strawberries - I sometimes buy the frozen ones so I need less ice - and ice. During summer sometimes it's our lunch heheheheh

Besides milkshakes, I would choose light/fat-free/sugar-free frozen yogurt. That is a lot better. I will choose orange, raspberry, vanilla, peanut butter, and chocolate for flavors. Almost every grocery store has frozen yogurts available to offer. Hey, just use them for recipes. Hey, frozen yogurts are still creamy. You can still use frozen yogurt for milkshake. I would choose fat-free/skim milk for this. Let me know what you think.

Yes, I sometimes use the frozen yougurt and often use skim milk to make my milkshakes because they still get very thick if I put enough ice :) You just gave me a wonderful idea to use peanut butter. We usually prefer fruits but we love peanut butter too , thanks :):):)

I also like milk shakes very much. Here we have lots of fresh juice shops where they provides different fruit juices and milk shakes. My favorite is a drink called sharja. It is made by mixing cold iced milk blended in the blender with peanuts, sugar or honey, coco powder, various cashew nuts, banana and then mixing ice cream and cherry and honey in the top of it. I think it is very tasty. Here they also mix various ice creams in the top of the strawberry, pineapple, mango, pista, chocolate milk shakes.

hi arkaf61, my dear feind, i love ice creams and i love milk shakes too. i think now i am more on my home made milk shakes becasue i take sugasr free and in the market i ahve to ask them to keep it sugar free and all of them dont even give sugar free. one day we made apple shake and mango shsake and in the second go we finishe the apple one but the mango was left. so i mixed one scoop mango ice cream scoop in a glass full of mango shake and added some finely sliced dry fruits. then i blended the whole thing and kept it in my refrigerator. in late night when i went and opened my refrigerator, i loved to eat that milk shake . it tasted sooooo awesome that i cant tell you. my hubby took it like that but i made a shake of it and it tasted wow!!!!!

No, I have never tried this. I mostly make shakes for my husband because he likes to drink protein shakes sometimes. I am thinking about making him one today actually. I just put the ice cube tray in to freeze some cubes for it later. I have had a good time reading all the comments to this discussion and getting ideas! I never would have thought of sweet potato!
