Hi,
We are always being told that we should give our children at least five portions of fruit or veg a day,but it really isn't that easy to get children to eat what is good for them..How do you get your children to eat more fruit and veg?

On a good day we have up to five portions, sometimes even more!! We often have three veg with dinner, then the rest is made up of snacks the kids have. Sweets, chocolate and crisps are kept to treat times if the kids behave but more often than not they will ask for a piece of fruit or dried fruit like sultanas and apricots.
I sound like a real health freak, but am not(honest) I didnt get a lot of sweets when I was younger and I saw them as special treats so have been the same with my children.

To be honest, I don't believe 5 is enough.
It isn't all about weight...it is about health. And you can eat alot more fruits and veggies than you can unhealthy "food" without gaining weight, that is for sure.
As for the kids, I make sure that the fruits and veggies are more readily available than other snacks- and I limit the other snacks by not bringing too many of them into the house. Also, often if they ask for a another cookie, they are told no...if they ask for fruit or veggies, they can have all they want.
