Wrong Prescription Given

Have you ever had the pharmacy give you the wrong prescription, where either the drug did not match what was on the label, or the label (and meds) did not match what the doctor prescribed?
Did you realize it before you took any?
Was it quickly resolved?
What were the implications if you had taken the meds?
was it dangerous for you to be without your prescribed meds?
would it be dangerous if you took the meds given?
Are you careful to check to make sure what you receive is the same as what the doctor ordered?
Do you read the printouts about the medication?
-----------
my son one time received the wrong meds - but the pharmacy had called us (after hours)
apparently they are really good at checking for mistakes at the end of the day and they caught their mistake.
It would not have been terribly serious - it was the same type of medication but the wrong dosage. I can not remember now if it was too much or too little mgs.

I had a doctor give the wrong dosage amount for a prescription but not the pharmacy making the mistake. It was a bit scary because it was an asthma medication for a 5 month old. So that always made me look at what meds we had and the proper dosages for weight. I also try to avoid meds unless totally unavoidable.

My daughters doctor called in a prescription to the pharmacy one time and they ended up filling it wrong. I never got it from them because they were saying that my insurance was not going to cover it and it would be $96 for the prescription. I knew that my insurance covered it, so I check with them. Sure enough they cover it. So, I called the pharmacy back and they told me that it not what the prescription was for. After arguing with them for what seemed like forever I had the doctor call the pharmacy and he told them that they were wrong and to give me the right medicine. I no longer use that pharmacy.

Lily,
if that Pharmacy was a "chain", I would report them to the Corporate Hdq.'s, I would also report the Head Pharmacist to the State..that's a clear Violation of the Pharmacist that is licensed for that facility!! If you call them and ask them for a print out of the Medication for your daughter for the last year..the ID number should be on there to indicate which transaction it was...good luck!! Save someone from receiving the wrong meds, could be lethal!!

YES! A few years ago, I picked up a refill for my daughter, but noticed when I got home the pill was not the same as the last time. Low and behold they gave me the wrong rx. Thank God I looked. Now, I always make sure to double check before taking or giving anything to myself or children.
