When you were a kid, did you ever cut your own hair?

My aunt went to school for cosmetology so she was like our resident hair cutter. Whenever someone needed a haircut, she would do it for us. I remember over hearing my mom tell my aunt that I needed a haircut and that we'd have to figure out when the best time for that would be. So, for some odd reason, I decided to find a pair of scissors and start cutting my hair myself. This meant I ended up with rather uneven hair that had to be fixed later. Imagine my mother's surprise when she walked thru the house finding clumps of blonde hair everywhere. She eventually found me in the laundry room with the scissors still in my hands.
I've told this story to friends of mine and they've all said they've actually taken it upon themselves to cut their hair, at least once when they were a kid. So, did you ever do it? How did your parents respond when they found out you had done it? And what on earth encouraged you to cut your hair?

I have cut mine and I cut my sister's too! lol I was a bad little child. My parents were so mad at me too. I never lived that down. And it was stupid because I couldn't wait for my mum to cut my bangs before picture day so I cut my own. Now... My sister's, that's a different story. I just convinced her to let me do it.

Hello dear friend. I was always taken to the barber's by my parents for a haircut when I was a kid before ten, but later I went to the barber's myself. I have never tried to cut my own hair for fear that I would make myself look ugly. hehe. But I have to say that not all of the barbers could make my hair look nice. But I have a favorite one, who could always make me feel very satisfied.

I've been cutting my own hair for 20 years and I've saved $4000.00 in haircuts. When I was in my 50's my hair was very thin on top and I decided to be my own Barber. I Paid $80.00 for a good pair of hair clippers. There was a set of buckrakes with the clippers. These allowed me to choose different lengths of cuts. At that time I cut it about 1/4 inch long, but since then I'm cutting it as close as I can.
I enjoy the freedom, (no waiting in the barber shop) and the money I save. I cut it every week whether it needs it or not.

haha yea i did it when i was really young too! but i didnt do it out of curiosity, here is my story: i was chewing on gum and blew a bubble which then popped and predictably got stuck in my hair...so, rather than going to my mom to just cut the tiny piece of gum out, i decided i would do it myself because for some really weird reason i was convinced that if my mom knew what happened she wouldnt let me chew gum anymore. So I cut a huuuge chunk of my hair off. I didnt think it was noticeable....but of course my mom noticed the second she saw me. When I told her what happened she just thought the whole thin was funny..

The only time I ever remember cutting my own hair was when I was 15 and my Mom ordered me not to cut my hair b/c she loved how long it was. I followed her to the letter...the back was long...almost to my butt...the top and sides were shaved LOL

I did, when I was in about 6th grade I cut my bangs and they stayed messed up till just about when I was graduating high school. Hows that for a mess? LOL. I thought I could do it myself and I was a pretty stubborn kid. It didnt work out so well, so I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. I looked SO stupid!

I cut my own hair now. I always cut my own bangs since I was about 12. But once when I was about 9 years old I cut my own hair. I chopped it real bad. Some parts were about 6 inches long while others were as short as a buzz. Other areas almost bald. I think i did it for attention. My parents split up had a new sibling and started getting sexually abused at this time.
I guess you can say it was the start of a path of trying to get attention that lasted about 7 years till I finally left that terrible place.

I never will forget the time that my two year old daughter cut her hair. She had her hair braided - patch style.
She cut one of the side patches, and brought me the braid and asked me to glue to back on....On one side of here tiny little head her hair was cut nearly down to here scalp...
I didnt know wether to laugh or cry.... Short hairstyle -boy cut was our solution.
Thank goodness it grows....

this is going to date me but when i was seven my mom had me in long hairwith shirley temple style curls which I hated so while she was busy I decided to get rid of the long curls and started to whack away with a will. my mom saw that I had cut at least seventy percent of my curls off so she took me totown to a barber who cut my hair in a bob. now I am really dated. but my classmates no longer made fun of me. I think that my mom understood that I was being picked on because of my long girls.the curls were get this my dad's idea.

My youngest daughter cut her hair when she was at a friends house. In one place at the back she cut almost to the scalp.
At the time she had lovely shoulder length red hair. We had to take her to the hairdresser to have it fixed... she ended up with the top about an inch long and the back about quarter of an inch. She ended up looking like a boy and the poor hairdresser was almost in tears cutting it LOL.
Tiara-Jayne was only four at the time.
Her hair hasn't reached the same length since... and she's now seven

Yes, I cut my own hair when I was a kid. I was about 11 years old when I decided to give my bangs a 'trim'. My mom was the one that always cut my hair when I was growing up and she'd always have to even it out a little, and before I knew it I would have my hair shorter than I wanted. I was pretty suspicious by the time I was 11 that my mom had been 'evening it out' on purpose, to make it the length she wanted, which wasn't what I wanted, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. Well, while I was cutting my bangs I would pull down a small portion and snip. I let go and it sprang back. To my surprise it wasn't too bad. So I snipped another portion off. But it wasn't even with the first bit I cut. I did this with the rest of my bangs and then tried to even it all out. But that was where it all fell apart and my bangs came out much too short! I was so embarrassed! I put a baseball cap on and left it there. My mom and my sister came home from an errand and noticed the cap. My mom or sister somehow figured something wasn't quite right and one of them snatched off my cap before I could stop them. They laughed hysterically at my new hairdo. Amazingly, this didn't stop me from trying again and the next time I tried I cut my bangs with success! I had figured out my mistake from before and I was so happy. I cut my own bangs from then on, until I decided to let it grow out a few years later.

I did not. My mom was a hairdresser and was constantly cutting my hair short or curling it in tight pincurls etc etc. I hated it so so much. I could not wait to get away from all that and just grow my hair! I have 4 kids tho and have worked with kids and I will say that most of them do just that at some point or another. If not their own hair then that of a sibling or friend.

oh!!!! well, i don't remember cutting my hair when i was a kid, but i did cut the hair of my little brotherS! yep! 2 of them, hahhaha! i was maybe like 10 years old back then. my parents got super mad at me because their hair looks so awful, it has little holes everywhere. hahha!! and you all know when your young, your parents restrict you to hold scissors. haha!
but right now, if i don't feel like going to the parlor, i cut my own hair. then by the time i decide to go to the parlor, the lady there will say, "wow, how cut your hair? it's so not straight!" :D

I did this only once, and it was I think a year ago when I had short hairs. was feeling a lil awkward because my hair was like a science student commonly shown in many films :D
I got a scissor from my dad's shaving kit and got in front of the mirror and started chopping it in a particular style, and I was doing this my elder sister came to me and shouted on me for why I'm doing and what I'm doing and what if I get hurt and stuff, but I decided not to get my mind distracted from what I was doing because if I'd left it in the middle, it'd look worse then it was before I started choping. and when I finished I showed my new hair style to my elder sister and she said "let mom come back from office" and I was like "yeah yeah" :D
and when mom came back from office I showed my hair style before my elder sister could tell the thing and get mom angry. and mom said...."WOW...that's nice :)"
and am telling you, this was the first time my mom was happy with my hair style as you all know all the moms want to see her son and daughter in decant position.
