I haven't slept well since childhood. My mother has the same problem. To boot we are light sleepers. Do you have a similar difficulty in your family? I am hoping not to pass this on to my daughter.

According to this website it can. It also lists some other causes of insomnia. I only have this problem every once in a blue moon. It is not an every night thing for me. I hope for your daughters sake that she does not inherit it. http://nosleep.in/insomniacause.html

There are various causes of insomnia. One of them is consumption of stimulants like caffeine. But another cause is anxiety and excess worry. If you tend to think about things and not let go or relax, it can keep you awake. Sometimes, it seems as if there is a window of opportunity to fall asleep. If you keep thinking past that window, then stress starts to creep in and you are stuck awake.

i beleive it does. my husband is bad at night he can go to bed at 8 and not get to sleep till 4 in the morning he just lays there wide awake. and sure enough my oldest son is the same way but he takes meds for it and they really help. they wanted to put him on one med but i wasn't sure about it and i had talked to a friend about it she said to ask about melatonin, her son has sp and he had to take it. its all nateral and cheap. you can get it right at walmart for like 3 something. it might be something for you to try. if you do make sure you get the 300mcg and not the 100. with my son he started with one and then the doctor worked him up to 3. so he takes 3 about 15 minutes before bed and when he gets to bed he is tired and has no problem going to sleep.

Well I'm sorry to tell you but it runs in my family and yes it runs in yours. It is quite possible it will be passed on. My grandmother has it, her mother had it, my mother has it, my aunt has it, I have it too. Unforunatly it will be passed on. I'm sorry to learn of your insomnia.
