What is wrong with me?

For the last few days I have been having some concentration problems. I finally came up with some good ideas to write articles for AC but I just can't write them. I feel like I can't do anything right. I am on meds for depression, Bi-Polar disorder and Panic attacks so I'm wondering if maybe my meds need adjusted yet again. I was fine for a while and decided I wanted to get back into writing and after a few torturous days of not being able to think of any good ideas, I finally have though of some ideas but now I just can't write. I can't think straight and cannot concentrate on anything for too long. This feeling sucks. I have to wait until the 27th to see my Psychiatrist so I will have to wait until then to see if my meds need adjusted. Anyone else feel like this? If so how do you get through it? Thanks.

Well, I'm no expert, but I can understand what you're getting at. I have depression and borderline personality (they originally thought was bipolar) and I had a panic attack last year. Any ways, people suffer from writer's block all the time, and it might not be the meds. I could be other things, such as your diet, sleep, exercise. Then you do mention that you're having trouble concentrating in other areas too, so it could be the meds. Have you missed a dose recently? Have you done anything differently with them recently? If no, then you could always call your psychiatrist, let him/her know. It could be something taken care of over the phone, depending on your complete situation. Doesn't hurt to ask. You might even be able to get an earlier appointment. Hope this helps! Good luck! Keep us posted!!!

Well, you do have to let your meds kick in. This is all new for me, so I know how annoying it is to have to keep adjusting the meds to see what works at what dosage, and what doesn't work. I didn't get diagnosed until January, so this is all new to me too. But I do know that if I don't stick to my meds, I'll end up back in the hospital, and with that last hospital bill still looming over my head, I just can't afford to end up back in the hospital. So, it sounds like you just need a reason to keep at it, besides the obvious ones that people tell you. Mine just happens to be a financial reason. It may be "stupid", but my therapist says that whatever keeps me out of the hospital, or from trying to harm myself, isn't stupid. So, that's the way that I'm looking at it. I know that there are many other ways as well. You just need to find yours.

Yeah I used to have a lot of panic attacks but since the meds I don't have as much. It is not writers block because if it is then it is the absolute worst case ever. I haven't written anything in 6 months or so. I have been taking breaks from the computer but nothing seems to be helping yet. I go see my doctor the week after next but I might not be able to wait until then. No I haven't missed any doses of my meds or changed them. I have just been on them for a while and I think maybe my body has gotten used to yet another med so either time for a new one, which I do not want, or time to adjust again. I'm sick of adjusting my meds so much. For a while they work and then they don't. I am just sick of this whole situation. Thanks for responding and for the suggestions. :)

I have been taking the same meds for about a year now or maybe longer. So I don't have to wait for them to kick in I just think they need adjusted or something. After taking the same meds for a while your body gets used to them and then they either need adjusted or you need to try something else. I am just sick of the whole medication thing but if I don't take them then I am right back to where I started and I don't need that. Thanks. :)

I know its hard but we all have moments like that. I know I have my issues and experience similar things but everyone experiences times when they lose concentration on something and then gain it back after. When the time is right you will get back into writing. I'm sorry you are feeling to rough.

I'm not sure what meds you are on exactly but if one of them is Ativan, that may be your problem. I was recently talking to my councellor about how I couldn't write a complete thought out (which is really unusual for me) and she mentioned that taking Ativan regularly can affect that. I found that for a few days I stopped TRYING to write and just jotted stuff... anything and everything just to try to get it out of my head and onto paper.

No I am not on Ativan but my husband used to be. It didn't do that to him though. I am taking Seroquel, Zoloft and Clonopin and they work fine. I am feeling better now thanks and am back to writing again, Thank God!! :)

I thoughgt I was the only person with a concentration problem! Mine started after I started to have seizures. Was you ever hit in the head? My doctor told me mine might have came about when I was in a car accident Oct.29, 2006 and just started to come out. Some days are worse than others. There is days I don't even remember where I'm at. I have had brain scan but everything showed fine so the doctor is sending me to a specially dr. to scan my brain. I hope everything turns out good for you. Havfaith

No I was never hit in the head and I don't have seizures. My husband has seizures and is on meds for them and they are under control. I do have Bi-Polar, Social Phobia, Panic attacks and I am on meds for them. I think my meds need to be adjusted and I need to get out of the house more often. I am so sorry that this has happened to you. I hope the specialist finds out what is wrong and fixes you up. Thanks for responding. :)

I've had times like this before where I have great ideas but then can't seem to write it down or keep getting distracted. I'm sure the kids interrupting me every 10 seconds has nothing to do with it, lol. I think everyone goes through this sometimes, with spring teasing us it's even easier to feel restless. Sometimes diet can help a lot...lots of protein, low sugar & carbs - I was a whole different person when I stuck to a diet like that for 1 week...but then my hubby kept sabotaging it, so it's been tricky to stay on it! Other things that help are to take breaks - like a walk or a jog or do housework or start watching a movie or go out somewhere for a cup of coffee by yourself or with a friend. When I get burned out I stay away from the computer for a day. Good luck seeing the dr. - I hope they can help get the meds straightened out for you!

I have been taking breaks from the computer and I am going to start walking my dogs again soon once it warms up a little more. Yes I know I need a break sometimes and I know when I get burnt out. I am trying to drink more water for energy and hope that helps and I'm sure the walks will help clear my head. Yesterday I took a break from the computer and watched movies with my husband and cleaned the house. Today I went to my mom's to visit. I'm starting to feel better but I still can't write. Thanks for your response. :)

One of the first things to look at is the weather,I suffer from sever clinical depression myself and when the weather changes, usually from warm to cold,I get more lethargic and absentminded, but once the weather gets back to warm,I am fine again,if it does continue for to long, then upping the meds might help. take care.

Yes this weather has made my mood worse but it is getting warmer now so hopefully it will make me feel better. If the weather stays this way I think maybe taking my dogs for a walk might help. I need to clear my head and get away from the house for a while. If things don't get better by the time I go back to see my doc then I will tell her and see what she suggests. Thanks. :)

In the response to what is wrong with me? There's nothing wrong with you, you're just letting your mind have time to digest, and rest... Sometimes it's hard to concentrate when there's alot of things going on around you, like the weather, maybe aches and pains, or just being overly tired...I seen a show tonight that specified at people today not getting enough sleep...If you're not getting enough sleep, you could be depriving your brain, of the rest it needs to function...When you get a writers block, just quit and rest, and let your brain have some time to function...My parents always said that haste makes waste... Good luck in your writing...And don't worry, you'll get back in the groove...

I'm always tired but that is nothing new. As far as getting enough rest at night I wouldn't know where to start. One of the meds I take is Seroquel and it knocks me out at night but that doesn't mean I get any rest and with all of the things I have to do every day I feel like I never get any rest. I know I am stressed out but that is nothing new either. Thanks for the response and I hope you are right when you say I will get back in the groove. :)

nothin is wrong with you everyone has writers block sometimes and yeah it is hard to get through this. i have taken a few courses on these disorders before i am goin to school for nursing so it was required for me to take. i have concentration problems too but what u can do to help them is to write down the topic and leave space for extra thoughts if u cant think of any at the moment, then move on to ur next thought u have. i mean it sounds easy to do what i am sayin but sometimes its hard for me to do. but jus relax thoughts will come to you as the day goes by, and jus keep a notepad on u jus in case u get a thought and u are not near ur computer or whereever u write down ur topics. relaxation is the key.i dont think u need to adjus ur meds higher maybe lowering them could help because that could be hurting ur creativity that u have and ur ability to concentrate on things. i have some friends who are have depression and lowering the med's has helped them express themselves in a better way

Yes but I have had this writers block for way too long. I haven't written anything for Associated Content in about 6 months or so and I feel that it will never go away. I know I need to relax but with everything going on in my life it is too hard to do sometimes. I have tried taking time off of the computer and reading and that didn't help. Yeah it helped relax me but it didn't help spark any ideas. Like I said though I do have some ideas now but I am having a hard time writing the actual article. I am feeling very tortured and restless and it is just depressing me. Thanks for your suggestions and for responding.

Well, sometimes its unavoidable that we feel depressed for the day..but for the health its not a good side, i believe in Meditation which will balance our mind and helps to be normal at situations.
