How many cake tins do you own?

I'm feeling bad as I only have one, a loaf tin! But my friend has loads in all different shapes and sizes. Now I never felt bad about this until today when she offered to lend me some. To tell you the truth I'd never even thought that making the same shaped cake every time was boring, but obviously she thinks it is. So how many different cake tins do you have? And do you use them all? If I were to get some more, which shape would you recommend as being the most useful?

Hi there... I have six cake tins and use only 1 of them for baking cakes, the rest are used for pie dishes, roasts, and other grilling or baking dishes... I have oval tins, round and square, I only use 1 oval tin... The cake looks quiet neat to when its baked and comes out with ease, thats without using baking papers, just butter, for greasing the tin...

I was thinking earlier that I should make some tray bake, as I could do it in my roasting tin. Good plan!

I guess this is something I never really thought about, I know I have a few, nothing exciting. Last cake tin I bought were some small loaf tins to go into the small table top oven, for when the large oven wasn't working well. I guess you have to ask yourself why am I baking? A loaf tin may be more convient for you for storing the cooked cake, where if you were to buy a larger cake tin, you may not have anywhere to keep the cooked cake. If you are making birthday or celebration cakes, of course there are all shapes & sizes. But again do you really need them??

If I were to buy a larger cake tin, we'd just eat more cake :-) Good point though, the only reason I need more tins is so that I can bake more than one cake at a time.

I have a couple of loaf tins, 2 round, and one heart shape. I use the loaf and rounds fairly regularly but just remembered I had the heart one this past February (after over a year) and used it for Valentine's Day. They sell an amazing array of different shapes but I'm not sure which shapes I'd get a lot of use out of...maybe an oval/egg, rectangle, square or flower.

A flower certainly sounds good, but I reckon it would be really hard to get the cake out of without it sticking. Might be easier to make a round & cut to shape. You could also eat the scraps!

Well I'm glad there's someone out there who has even less cake tins than me! Do you do any baking? Maybe you'd do more if you had the right equipment. Having good stuff always inspires me to try it out.

13 by 9 is definately the most usefull as it can be used for cake, brownies, casserole, roasting, nearly anything. I own about 8 different pans.

8? Wow! Thanks for the tip. A multi use one certainly makes sense for me as I'm lacking in storage space in my kitchen.

Hi GreenMoo, I bake cake only before having family gathering, birthday party or during festive seasons. I would also try to bake one if I have got a new recipe. So far I have three cake tins. One is round in shape, one is rectangular and the other is heart- shaped. Most of the time, I use the round one when baking cake. It is nice to have another cake tin in the shape of a capital letter L.

Why a letter L? Could you make L shaped cakes by cutting up a rectangular one?
