Why do you really study martial arts?

Why are people obsessed with "street fights" in this category? Granted, one reason for studying martial arts is self defense. But how many street fights have you ever been in? I haven't been in a fight since I was a kid, over 20 years ago. If people really cared about self defense, they would carry guns, knives, tasers, etc. but most people don't. I submit that self defense is not the main reason why most people train, but only a side benefit. I train because it's a good workout; 2) it's intrinsically fun, like any sport or activity; 3) it gives you a rush or a sense of accomplishment when you earn a belt, master a new technique, land a good kick in sparring, or pull off a difficult submission; 4)it boosts your confidence level to defence ur self and last; 5)it is a place to hang out with friends who share your interests.
So what is your main reason for training?

Sorry but mine is self defence. I don't live in a very violent country but as I am female, I feel anxious when I'm outside especially at night and doing a martial art has made me much more confident.
I do agree that it is fun, although some people might think that strange as Krav Maga focuses mainly on, not just defending but attacking effectively and violently.

I started training due to the art part of martial arts. It demonstrates the beauty of delivering a devastating blow to your opponent. I also want to improve on my physique that is why I started training. Lastly, I'm really fond of weapons that's why I took up stickfighting. :)

I like to think of it as a form of meditation. Taking some time out from everyday life to focus completely on perfecting your form or just keeping focussed on the person you are sparring with so that they don't hit you. It lets you focus better on other stuff afterwards. That as well as all of the physical benefits like the fitness and the self defense.

Since it is also a sports, then I love this one compared
to other sports.
This is my first choice when I was starting to grow, I was doing
a balance when it comes to sports.
I mean I love playing chess too, to enhanced my brain while doing the karate
to make my self physically fit and improve my reflexes.
On this sports, I can show my expertise since it is dependent on your own skill
and you don't need somebody to help you unlike a team sports.

I have been thinking about this since the first time i took up a martial art ( taekwondo ) few years back.Since then,i have been going compeitive and had been train in a couple of them.
When i was younger,i wanted to learn martial arts to fight, when i grew older,it's for self defense, slowly i just wanted to keep fit because i realise fighting will get you no where.Oops,i was wrong,it would prolly get you in jail or police station. But nowadays,i prefer to train compeitively, and take part in compeitions.I was a amateur boxer and hope to fight my 1st profession muaythai fight in the near future.
