In my opinion, sending text messages is a convient way to contact with others and also less expensive. It sometimes helps you express yourself better. For example, if you like some guy but feel shy to speak it out in front of him, then you can send a text message to him. :) On the other hand, I think it's not advisable to get addicted in texting. It is for sure a waste of time. So just take advantage of this function rationally and carefully.

now a days i text a lot.... i mostly use texting instead of calling. When you use a mobile phone for text messaging, radio waves are only emitted when you press the 'send' instruction. So your exposure to radio waves is likely to be very much less than you would receive while using a mobile phone for a normal call. SO it should be encouraged to text message rather than call. In order to type our messages more quickly, we often use a type of phonetic shorthand instead of grammatically correct, properly spelled sentences.so you may know the demerits of texting

well, i got my shares of being addicting to sending and exchanging messages before. more so because sms service has only a monthly fee of 165 pesos. now its one peso per message! haha i dont think that is fair though. i stopped sending too many non important messages the moment i realized that these phone networks are making such a big money out of its subscribers. hehe

I think you are right - young people seem to use sms much more than older people. I have never been a text addict, but then I did not get my first cell phone until I was 30.

True it is. It's a part of growing up. Actually, I will use the word 'Hobby'. It is just a prolonged liking that involves people during childhood. Later as age advances, things change. Time constraint, some other kind of involvement etc. change the childhood likings. However, there are people who can stick to it, rather does so even at a grown up stage.

Sometimes, when you send messages by that medium, you get both liberty as well as inhibitions. By liberty, you are able to send messages that you wouldn't normally say to that person. Text messages or SMS are impersonal though the messages does come from the sender themselves. By having an alternate representative in sending out your message, you are allowed to state certain details that we can't really tell at face value. For inhibitions, you are only allowed to use up to a certain amount of characters in constructing your messages. This becomes a concern to those who are sending messages so they end up abbreviating words that really don't have abbreviations. Having a limited amount of characters to send messges makes the conversation on going and longer. That's why even if the conversation would only last for a few minutes on vocal communications, it ends up taking a whole day to settle a discussion. For this generation, I guess they could incorporate it in technological influences in growing up..

Hi Jonirei. As for me I prefer to send text rather than making a call. I don't consider myself addicted however within a day I am sending about 100 sms.It is mostly on business testing or replying to friends sms. To me I find it more convenient to send a text rather then making a call. Besides, it is cheap to send text in my country said 1 cent for text and everybody seem to be doing the same. Not unless during emergency or something urgent only then I make a call. So, it is not a waste of time if your sending useful text.

I don't like texting, never addicted to that.I think it's time consuming. If need,I 'd rather just make a call. Some people like texting just for killing time ,they have a lot of time.It seems to me that you lil sister goes to extremes, she need to drop it a little. You may help her find some other interesting things to do.

My little sister is the same way. While she is texting her friends, she's also talking on the phone and messaging them on her various messangers online. She's just want I like to call, a social sl t, not in a bad way or anything, but she just enjoys talking and hanging with friends. It was my fault, the whole texting thing though, since I pay for the phone and got it for her. It's ok though, one day she'll get a job and do something with her life, right now she should be being a teenager.

I'm the same! I text like anything and will often have meaningless conversations with people I will see later in the day. :P I used to be worse when I was younger, about 15/16 then I calmed down. But now I'm 19 and on a monthly contract with unlimited texts and because I know they are unlimited I think I take advantage of it and will text all the time. I will send random texts when I'm bored just to see who replies! Pretty bad!
