The W Bro's.....Prophets?

Do you think the writing team are just way out the box kind of writers or perhaps modern day Prophets who had "received" some sort of message?

It could be possible. However, its also possible they just based the information on what is already happening in the present day (and what happened in the past) and then extrapolated possible outcomes that could occur.
Animatrix/Second Renaissance is a prime example of this.
Your idea may very well be possible if SR is included for discussion (as it is the history of the Matrix Universe. Here are some newer ideas in the real world that happened(or are on the way) post-Matrix.
- Lifelike androids to be possible by 2050 (around the same year as SR)
- Birthing chambers are successful (meaning humans can be grown in a pod/tube)
- A.I development (see the first item)
- War Machines/Robotics in War (predecessor to "Sentinels" and Terminator)
- PC to brain application (...)
