Will Social Security Disability survive a second American great Depression? This hits close to home for me as I am home ill and must depend on this to survive.

News on the American Economy is grim and grows grimmer by the day. The housing bubble burst like a water balloon after an elephant sat on it. Banks are screaming "Uncle!" after mismanaging themselves into holes. I am forced by law to auto-deposit my SSD check into a bank.

The question is...what the flip?

It would be hard to have to go to a bank to deposit the check. I think most people rely on the disability money to survive. My son has downs syndrome and i get carers payment for him. As he is only 2 years old i do not have to do much for him at the moment just make sure he goes for his check ups at the hospital and take him to his fortnightly physio. And i am sure there are worse of parents/gardians have a harder job to care for people with a disability it would be tough without that money. Kevin Rudd was trying to stop people reciving disability payments as it cuts into the budget to much. The news crew went around asking the carers how they felt if it happend and alot of people just said i would like him to come here for a day and see just how much we have to do to look after the person, He has kept the payments going. Just feel sorry for you having to go to the bank and wait that little longer till the check has been processed. Hope everything gets better for you.

I use my computer to pay bills pretty much so I don't need to go down to the bank to get my money. I pay bills online.

I feel for you as a care giver for a disabled son. You aren't in a position to go get a job.

I too was born disabled. I have autism. I was diagnosed at five. During the Reagan years, they did cut my Mother's payments and we struggled, but my payments resumed when I was an adult.

Ahh My son isn't that bad from what i we can tell so bad as we are teaching him colours and animals and his doing quite well for his age. The only thing is that his physio is getting frustrated with him as his not walking yet. Well not frustrated at him exactly more anoyed at me as they think i am not doing what they are asking of me to do for him at home. But you can only do what he lets you to do lol as most kids do when theyre at his age. But sorry to hear bout your mothers payments getting reduced when you were younger and for your disability. And its good to hear that u don't have to go to the bank that you can do it all online. Good luck in the future.

Thank you, and don't let the school push you around! Let your instincts guide you in knowing what your son can and cannot do. A physical toy or two, like a nerf ball won't hurt, rubber balls like you see in the grocery stores are good too.

Wow forced by law to direct deposit? My hubby just got accepted and for him it was a choice. I hope it survives...it's paying for the new family car! (old was ready to go kaput any minute)

Yes, you have to have it direct deposited into a bank. It's kinda just as well, because a lot of checks had been getting stolen out of mail boxes. The government was getting sick of having to reimburse people for stolen funds while thieves get off. If I don't get mine, I'm up a certain creek!
