some of the questions on mylot is hard to answer because I don't understand them and politics is one of them, I don't watch the news or read the papers, they are so depressing to me. so how does a person answer them when you don't know anything about them??? some of them are from my friends on here and wished I could answer all of them. my mond goes blank. does anyone have any ideas? like I said before the newspspers are out and so is the news.

I don't answer them..We don't have to answer each and every post our friends make, just the ones we can reply to..In fact in the mylot discussions guidelines, I believe it says that if you don't have a good answer, don't reply.

The first object of a discussion is to communicate and share opinions, it's appropriate to respond only to those we know of.. And in-case we don't know anything about the topic, it's better to not respond at all or simply read the posts so we get the idea of what it was all about.
You could either browse around the net, search on articles or available informations regarding that subject.

I know what you mean. I cannot understand or relate to alot of the discussions either. I don't watch much of the news either other than watching the weather. The news is very depressing to me also. I delete the discussions I cannot understand or relate to. I would add more friends and more interests to your profile that you like. I add new friends and I get a variety of discussions to respond to daily. Some get deleted but alot of them I can answer.

Blueangel, there are a lot of discussions if you feel that your friends discussions are not in your interest. I also have a lot of topics that I will skip just because I don't know them and don't even have any single opinion about it.
You may want to try the search engine to search for topics in your interest. What worked for me was reading the topic discussion and reading some of the responses too. After having some idea about what was being talked about, I write my own opinion regarding it.
It's fun! Share more and enjoy!
All smiles,
JNY

I tend to respond only to the one's that I can quickly come up with something to add to the discussion, if I have to ponder on it, then I move on to the next one because I have very little time to respond to discussions. Politics is one discussion I usually don't bother responding too!

My personal choice is not to answer any political questions. It tends to start disagreements since everyone has an opinion which might differ from the person posting the discussion. I know what you are saying about the news. It can be terribly depressing but I view it as a part of life. News is everywhere.
If you don't or can't answer political questions I would suggest you delete the discussion and go onto another discussion you are able to answer.

I don't answer anything political that I don't understand, I ignore and go onto the next one, I try to word mine as what would you do if, and even if you don't know the situation you just say what you think you would do in that situation

do not feel obligated to answer questions that you don't have a good response for.
It is far better to add a, say, silly cat story to a cat question than to feel bad about not responding to a friend who wants to talk about politics.
I don't feel the least bit guilty if I stay away from subjects that I know little or nothing about.

I too would love to be able to answer all my friends discussions but if I know nothing re the subject or haven't an opinion on it I move on to another. Talk about things that are of interest to you or start more discussions yourself on subjects you know about then you will definately be able to respond to the responses. Good Luck with it. Ellie :D
