I hate stairs!

This morning I got up, got ready for work, and then headed down my apartment stairs... and suddenly I was at the bottom, without any real memory of falling but with my legs twisted under me strangely. The good news is there's nothing broken, but my left knee is pretty badly sprained, and my whole left leg hurts. I spent a long time at the doctor's office today, getting X-rays and such, so I missed work, and I'm not allowed to work tomorrow either. Which might threaten my job. Stupid stairs! What is it with me and stairs anyway? I've fallen down the stairs more times in my life than any one person should in ten lifetimes or so!!!

i am not a fan of stairs. i have stairs in my home. i find its easy to get tired to walking up and down the stairs. there have been times when i was tired and needed to get something from the other room. i had to go down a flight of stairs. i thought i was going to loose my balance and fall down the stairs and hurt my self.

*nods* Falling down the stairs is no fun! I want to get a house where I can have most of the stuff I need downstairs at least, eventually. Right now I live in a second floor apartment though, so I always have to go up and down the stairs anytime I come and go.

I had a bad experience about stair one time, I fell down that I didn't knew the cause of it. The most stupid and worst thing about is, the people laughed at me instead of helping me get up. (some smart-a$$ed jerks!) After that, I'm always cautious when walking down stairs.. But the most that happens to me is, that I always get tripped-off whenever I walk on flat surfaces. My littlest toe on my foot (not sure the right term to use here!LoL), is the one's that always gets tangled up on debris or obstacles that comes along my way. Just take a rest for awhile, as you could always give a call to your boss at work to explain about your sudden absence..

Sorry to learn about your experience, raijin. I also had an embarassing experience, too when I was in grade school. And just like what happened to you, instead of helping me get up, the people near me didn't help me. They just stared at me.

Ouch! I wouldn't worry about work, that should be the least of your concerns. If you have a doctors note, they simply can't fire you or hold it against you... unless they want a lawsuit that is. Doctors orders, are as they say doctors orders... not to mention legally binding. I used to live in a two story house with basement, I can't tell you how many times I've done exactly what you described. However I tend to fall like an enibriated feline, it's not pretty, it's not graceful, but rarely do I get hurt. Since I no longer have to contend with stairs, I'm constantly falling off of ladders at work. Usually I'm coming down them, with my hands full, miss a step and then gravity takes its course. You could say it's all "downhill" from there. (pun intended)

How awful. You must rest it properly. Surely your employer will be reasonable and let you have the weekend. You must take care (I'm nagging again. Can't help it with people that I like). Do look after yourself and get as pampered as you can be. Hugs.

Yup, I'm resting it the best I can. Still have to take care of my son, but I've got my leg propped up and iced while I'm typing here, and he's playing with his toys. The work situation is a difficult one, because the problem is that I've already missed a lot of work, between my own illness and my son's health problems. So it's getting to the point where I'm completely unreliable, which of course puts strain on everyone else working there trying to fill in for me, and having to be called in on days off and such. My supervisor didn't say anything about it when I called her to say I wouldn't be in today or tomorrow, but last time I missed I got a warning, so it's kind of an iffy situation. I can understand their side of it too, but there isn't really anything I can do about my situation. Thanks for the concern, it's touching!

Sounds like you were very lucky not to do yourself a real serious injury, stairs are dangerous I think. Our stairs are really steep and 5 out of 6 of us in our family, have fell down them at some point, I am the only one who has not....yet. Hope you get better soon.

I am glad you are OK!!! My husband fell down ours one time and I got a call at work. My son was only a year at the time. I get called to the phone, I answered it was my husband, he said my name and I answered him and he replied "help me." Nothing more, and the phone was not hung up. I looked at my boss and told her that I had to go and ran to get my keys. I only live about 4 minutes away, so I could get there much faster than calling 911, although I had no idea what I was about to find. When I walked in the house our son was walking around his dad crying, my husband laying on the floor, just coming to, his foot was bleeding but that is all I seen. He had fell all the way from our upstairs carrying our son. We have 13 of them, and landed at the bottom. There was a phone right above his head and the only number he could remember was my work number. He would not go to the hospital and get checked out, I sat with him a little while and fixed his toe. I then called his mom and asked her to come sit with him for a while and make sure nothing happened to him and thankfully nothing did. I went back to work, but it sure was a scare. Stairs are dangerous, but glad they did not get the best of you.

Apartment Stairs - are very dangerous! I'd hate them too!
Oh man lecanis!! I'm so sorry to hear about you and stairs! I don't like them either and we have them in our house. We don't go upstairs very often, in fact, our cats and dogs do much more often than we do. They're good exercise but who wants to exercise? lol Trying to make you laugh hon. Hope it worked. Now get well really soon, Ok but first get some badly needed rest.

That's terrible. I hope the pain goes away soon Lecan. Steps can be a bit tricky, but not that bad. I've gotten quite use to using them, indoors and out. Uh.. take it a bit slower next time! And it may help to keep some of your view on the stairs going down. Well, maybe that won't be as much help as it is to me. I've slipped on the stairs going down more so, but I've always been able to catch myself. Might be reflexes or just a defense, I don't know.

I have the same problem but I trip up the stairs from being in a hurry and just not paying attention. I have had so many sprains that I'm surprised my ankles have not snapped off yet or I haven't had to have a major knee surgery. Welcome to the klutx club, Grace..:)

I too have been victim to the fall and I had an audience. I have since conquered the stairs by counting each step. It is a little obsesive compulsive but it helps you focus on touching each step rather than the focus of falling. Stop thinking about falling down the steps! The good news is you can think of anything you want.

I hope you have recovered well and never have to see stairs again in your life! I never like stairs myself because it does more harm to my joints than being a form of exercise by climbing them.

OMG--so sorry to hear this...thank goodness there's nothing brown but yes I just bet that left leg is sure sore....Why would staying home threaten your job??..I mean heavens doesn't sound like a caring place to work if they won't allow you to stay home after an accident of any kind

I am so sorry to hear your accident. I hope your leg will recover soon. I remember in the past when I was a kid, I also fell from the stairs but fortunately I was fine. Perhaps at that time I was little and light, so no more wound for me. Take good care of yourself and all the best!

I hope that you feel better soon! I avoid stairs because of my knees, having arthritis makes me more cautious than most people! I have fallen down stairs before, and it hurts a lot!
