How do you color your eggs?

For the first time in many years I colored Easter eggs. Even when I had small kids, I can't remember if we ever colored eggs. I was always afraid of them drinking the dye or getting poisoned. We used the plastic eggs and filled them with treats such as candy or money. And now there are news reports saying those plastic eggs could be toxic! The other night, when I decorated eggs, we had the old-fashioned vinegar and water dye, (the kind where you dissolve a tablet) and we also used Q-tips with dyes built in, crayons, Sharpies, stickers. Though we seemed to use the old-fashioned dye the most, we did note that it didn't seem as good as it used to be back in the old days. Tell me how you decorate your Easter eggs.

We have always just used the good old PAS egg coloring kits that you dissolve the tablet into vinegar and water. We also use the plastic eggs (I had no idea that they might be toxic!!!!) Yikes!

I use onion skin to color my eggs. I get it from my mother. Since I was small, we always color eggs with onion skin.

I've seen them do that on Martha Stewart...they used onion skins, tea, beets, and cabbage. I think they come out beautiful. It's much more natural and non-hazardous...you never know what kind of artificial junk is in those dyes/kits you buy at the store...they'll probably find some toxic chemicals in them.

I used the vinegar and water dye today when I colored eggs. I also used undiluted food color to make tie dyed eggs. I have colored eggs ever since I was little with my grandma so it means a lot to me. In the last couple years I didnt do it, I dont know why, so I had to pick up on the tradition today.

I use similar colors and soak the egg in a base color, then use a tiny dropper to leave food color droplets on the egg and it runs down the side. Its really messy and takes a while without a proper kit but I like my homemade designs. Buying a kit is alot easier!!

over the years we have done several ways of coloring our eggs - sometimes we blew the yolk out first - other times we boiled the egg.
one year we covered the eggs in torn pieces of colorful tissue paper (these were blown out first) and we made hangers for them with ribbon. They turned out quite lovely and we glossed them with a spray coating.

My daughter and I went to color our eggs with a kit where you use vinegar and the little tablets too. Well, I didn't have any vinegar, so we used lemon juice and with the tablets and water. She also use a crayon and stickers to put on the eggs. They came our really cute.
We always colored eggs as little kids. Always using the vinegar and tablets! I always hated the smell. The lemon juice worked great and didn't stink up the house.

When I was young me,my dad and my brothers and sisters used to color eggs for easter. We make different artwork on the eggs. It is real cool. We don't use plastic containers shaped as an egg we do the real one. we don't do it now that we're big and older but I wish we still do.

My mum don't like anything chemical with the food, so we always color them only natural way. For example with different kinds of onion, we would have red eggs or yellow. The I think she used other different things, but I cannot remeber. And then when you make inside of the eggs out, we would color it with pencils and other colors or glus some decorations on them.

Normally we used the vinegar with the dissolving tablet. This year we bought a kit that was food coloring mixed with a vegetable oil so it would get a marblized look. You added the mixture to plain water.
We let our daughter do all the dying. She is almost two. Daddy sat with her while I snapped pictures. She did a dozen and had so much fun! She was really mad when we finally took them away. I think all of the eggs were plopped into every color!

I just colored the eggs with paint. Use brush to cover the eggshell. I removed to egg content first and colored the empty eggshells. So if easter passes, the eggshells are thrown away.

My family dyes easter eggs together every year. I think I enjoy it because it is somewhat a tradition. We tend to use the regular vinegar and tablet method. In the past we've tried other things, but seem to prefer using vinegar.
