pregnancy after tubal ligation?

I need some opinions please! I had a tubal ligation after having my son 2 years ago. The doctor that performed the surgery used clamps on my tubes. I have had a regular menstrual cycle of 36 days since. I am now 18 days late and is this something I should worry about? I am really not sure if I should call my GYN dr. to get a check up or just wait it out? Any advice?

If you haven't already, talk to a doctor, better safe than sorry--for whatever the worst case scenarios could be.

Don't wait go to the doctor to be sure. My OB has story about that I got ligated also more than 2 years now. As I recall she tell a story about one of her patient that got pregnant while she was already ligated it is possible and it turn out to ectopic pregnancy the baby is not grow inside the uterus but outside. So they have to abort it because the baby is not going to live there, the baby will die soon and the mother will be in danger that's what I remember. So don't wait to long see a doctor.

It might not be a bad idea to get a check up with your OB. I do believe that with a tubal ligation, at least with MY OWN, the tubes were clamped, two for each falopian tube, then cut and cartarized between the clamps. I believe that is standard procedure for a tubal ligation. Being late could be due to a hormonal imbalance. I know I did have some issues with my cycles really bad after about a year. My cycle was regulated with an estrogen shot. Other causes for your cycle to be late could be false pregnancies, illness, among several other things. Get in and see your OB just to be safe. I had my tubal done in 1994, and in the last 4 years my periods have been unpredictible. In November, in an attempt to regulate my cycle my OB put in the Mirena IUD, they believe it to be a hormonal imbalance because I am now over 40 and still smoke so I can't be on estrogen. Since the Mirena, things have straightened out. Granted, it is usually done for birth controll, but in my case, the low level of a form of estrogen that is released directly into the uterus is not a risk for cancer and it has regulated my system.

For two years you had a spot-on regular cycle and suddenly you are late by over 2 weeks. I would say, yes, you should go in for a check-up. It could be nothing...things change sometimes with no warning and no reason. Have you been in lately or are you due for a yearly exam anyway? If pregnancy is your only/main concern (and it does happen after tubals, yes) you could just get a home pregnancy test- although I imagine no matter what the result is, you would be making a call to your dr so maybe you should skip spending the $10...
