Copy & Paste?

I have reached that infamous number of 500, which seems to be the biggest hype after reaching the 100th post. After reaching 500 posts mylot opens up the capabilty to be able to copy and paste.
Do you really use this option for your discussions? Does it serve any purpose? Or is just another bragging right in which we are granted?

If you're posting quotations or articles you've pre-written, then it's really helpful. Can't say I've used it much myself though. It's good to have the option though and I understand why they withhold it because of the danger of newbies spamming with plagiarised articles.

I can't wait to reach that level so I can copy/paste. I use IE and not Firefox so I would love to be able to word a discussion or response that may be a bit wordy by first typing it into MS Word and using spell check on it before pasting it into Mylot. I often catch my own typos immediately AFTER hitting "post" and it frustrates the heck out of me. Wish Mylot would add a spell check feature, but it will probably require 700 posts before becoming available. lol

Thank you for your response. Yes, I have a curious mind at times, and was wondering what the hype was about on the copy and paste. Not sure I would use the option myself, for when I post in myLot, it's from something that caught my attention, and I automatically hit "respond to this discussion". It is more impulse for me, then copying something from some where else and pasting it here.

I can't wait until I reach that "infamous number" because I like to post useful links when I answer questions and having to type them by hand is annoying. Plus there are times when I've typed more than 1 paragraph in a response and realize that they'd make better sense in a different order. Being able to simply cut and paste the paragraphs would be so much easier than retyping it over again.

I'm not sure what the rules are regarding copying links into discussions, but if you needed to I'm sure it would physically let you do this, as it does seem to allow you to copy and paste short sentences even before you reach the 500-posts mark. Maybe it's just copying and pasting longer text that is forbidden, as plagearism is likely to involve larger protions of text.
I see that you've reached the "infamous number" now, how does it feel?!

congratulations chey1970,
that's great that you have reached such number i am still trying to do my best to do the same but dont have much time to post to discussions all the time.
anyway, i feel it will be helpful coz sometimes you find an article that you would want to start your discussion with or some link that you can use on your discussion or replies.
also, some members here have their own blog and sometimes they uses the same discussion they have on their blog or site and it will be easier to do such thing than to type it all over again.
i would love to get such thing coz i have previous blog that i find interesting but dont have the time to rewrite it again. so i am waiting for my 500 post to come so i can do it then.
anyway, i dont think it is bragging right that we are granted coz most of the member are sure happy that they reach such goal and to most that is something they are looking for after reaching the 100 and 200 post.

Thank you jairgirl, for your input and your insight. Yes, to have the option is always nice. And for me it was a goal I worked hard to reach cause it seemed like the biggest hype since the 100 mark.. the 200 incentive didn't come until after I reached the 500 goal. *laughing* Yes, I can see the need to copy and paste from one blog to another, esp. if it's a lenghty one.

I think reaching your 500th post gives you a feeling that you have passed a test and can now be trusted to use copy and paste. It can be useful if you want to quote or add a long link. If everyone was allowed to do it from the start there would be even more spamming and rulebreaking. I think you can be allowed to brag about reaching the 500 milestone. It means you have contributed a lot to myLot.

isnt that against the guidelines here? recipe, jokes, lyrics?
i remember reading it on the guidelines and i honestly dont reply to discussion like that coz it is meant to be deleted in the end and it is just a waste of time and effort.
some discussion survived but most are not so just be very careful posting or starting a discussion that violates the mylot guidelines.
just my two cents though.

I like others have said, use it when referring to articles. It helps to speed up the posting process. Sometimes its just easier to quote someone else by copying and pasting.
I see you are at 578posts. Have you tried it out yet? I am sure you will enjoy it! Congrats on your achievement!

Hello Jess368.
Thank you for your input. And yes, I can understand the reasoning for it, as so many have stated, along with yourself. Nope, I myself haven't used the feature yet, but I am sure if I need it, I will. I like the fact of having it handy if I do need to use it.

Early in my mylot activities I thought I found it necessary to copy and paste a few stuff and lo and behold, the power was not granted to me which I just take for granted everywhere else. I have seen discussions which are verbatim news items which are quite long. I don't subscribe to that type of use.

A couple of times I have wanted to paste something into a discussion and I've had to re-type it which is a real pain. I don't do it too often but every so often I do. Will be really happy when I make that magic number myself. Congratulations!

Im near The 500 mark, after reaching that whats the next excitement point to reach?? First as you say was the 100 mark when you got our start, then 500 so you can copy and paste and then after......????
I think its nice that people can congratulate otehr mylotters on their hard work and discuss their views on how hard/easy it is to accomplish them.
Sorry its late but Ive just strolled along this discussion x

As far as I am aware of, there really is no further excitement of reaching a certain number. Unless it's been changed. Mainly just the satification of reaching a certain number afterwards. Good luck on your acheiving the copy and paste function's magical number. Which you are so very close to doing.

I haven't reached 500 yet but it would be helpful to me when I get there because I want to post my poems and stuff in here but right now I do not feel like spending hours typing them all over again

I been here almost 3 months now, and I reached the 500 marker yesterday. However, as I told Zed, I am one of the slow ones. I myLot only in my spare time. Although I can be signed in for hours, I am normally off doing something else.
To reach a certain number (500 the magical number here) you just continue to post responses to discussions already started by another myLotter. As you have done here.

You know, I came across this alot before I hit 500, I'd want to copy and paste something.. after passing 500, I think Ive used the feature once. When I post discussions, I dont really find myself having a need for copy and paste but its there. Maybe its a way for mylot to prevent cheaters.. I dunno.

Thank you enchanted. The funny thing is from starting this discussion (which I am very surprised by the number of responses it has received). The members of mylot with the higher numbers, who seem to have been here longer, hardly use the feature. Where the ones who are under 500 posts to receive the option are dying to get it. I have yet to even try it to see if it works.
I believe it is more of an incentive then anything, which I appreciate the fact myLot gives such things to us users.

Congratulations on reaching 500 posts. I remember being so excited when that happened. I have used the copy and paste option a few times if I am posting about something that I have read or if I am posting a discussion about something that I have already written about someplace else. I think it is useful if I am posting a recipe that someone has asked for too.

Thank you Carol for your response to this. Seems a few people use the copy and paste option here and there, with different things they use it for. You mentioned posting recipes? I read somewhere that we couldn't post recipes? (Did I read false imformation?)

With copy and paste, you can paste entire articles as text for your discussion, but I wouldn't advise that at all.
Other than that, you can copy or cut your responses, put them into Microsoft Word, wordpad or other word processor and vice versa. If you lack a spell checker, or if you are afraid of losing a post you can write it in a seperate word processor program then past it into the response space when it is to your liking Chey. I mean this can be handy if you want to spellcheck a response further, or if you want to save a response for later.
If you need a wordprocessor here are a few free ones

Yeah, its the most enjoyable moment when i also reached the 500th post, and its really feel proud that you finally broke the shackels of copy and paste, but i really don't find any thing special in this copy and paste, as we are still not allowed to paste copyrighted material,,lol
But a milestone is a milestone, so lets enjoy it...

I think it's useful if you have stored articles (I have about 50) which you can turn into discussions.
What I don't understand is why there's a magic number where the powers that be at Mylot think you WON'T plagiarise someone else's article.
That bit's beyond me....!
