Am I the only one who finds the Wii over-rated?

A few of my friends have the Wii and rave over it, but the graphics are childish, the gameplay is monotonous and the so called realism of the action is laughable.
Come on people, what is it about this games platform that seems to have taken the world by storm, clever marketing?? Or am I just not getting the Wii experience?

I think its also about being active while playing a game, thats what I liked most about it. I thought it is pretty awsome. I cant wait to get one but im going to wait till the price goes down.

It is a bit expensive at the moment, but then all games consoles are don't you think.
I hope you manage to get one soon.

I am not much into video games really, but I did try World of Warcraft and it's just awesome experience I wish I had more time to play. My hubby has a lot of video games but never see Wii there, so he probably doesn't like it either or never hear anyone recommending it to him yet.

I've not tried World Of Warcraft, is that on the PC or a games console, sounds like a game of swords and sorcerers type thing..is that right?

Its the party feel of the Wii. Virtual console is pretty neat too (but there are other ways to get that effect without Wii).
But hey, you think its overrated, that's you. I'm enjoying mine. Brawl is quite a riot with online play, and sports is a decent diversion ("realism" or not).
And about the realism quip... is it the motion sensors you are commenting on, because its still a leap from getting those thumb exercises. Yep, a lot of realism with that alternative, heh! If its the graphics then again thats preference. I can like both the "realistic" and the cartoonish graphics (still playing SNES from time to time here).

I agree it is a party gaming console, I just wish the claims that are made about it could be lived up to. It will be interesting to see the next generation of games and consoles that come out. Nintendo have done a good job but it could have been so much better in humble opinion.
Take care,
J

Alright, I can understand that completely J. I too wish for the best in gaming.
Truth be told, I wanted more Wii Sports-like games, just because I have fun with them. In actuality, the Wii-type games can be rather short. I also have some complaints about the Virtual Console, as some Japan Only games still won't be released outside of that country. T_T

People who like the Wii like it because they prefer a more "playful" experience of game than a more "realist" sensory one. That is: interaction over F/X. Fun over shiny graphics and sound. Play again as children do... as, after all, are the ones who know BEST about playing.

I like the comment on playing as children do, I may have to take you up on that one, let all inhibitions go and just enjoy the moment.
Thanks for the reply,

Well for those of us who are nintendo buying loyalers there is that however the wii can do something you havent found anywhere so far..that I know of...the whole movement thing. It isnt so much the graphics. They targeted almost every market with this system. Mothers who are concerned about their child just sitting in front of the T.V. and playing..because with the wii you really do have to stand to play most of the games and def. move around. Among a ton of other ones. I have even noticed the senior age people buying it. It really was very smart of nintendo to come out with a game right now that was all about movement. With so many people worried about weight and dieting. The games are really fun to play too. Maybe your just not a gamer..? Not everyone I know chose to buy a wii so I imagine they are not for everyone but I think they are way more fun to play then the x-box and playstation and yes i have played both multiple times.

I know it is a more movement based platform but some of the so called athletics that are claimed are realy just a flick of the wrist. I think that is one of the things I found a little irritating about it, you dont need much skill and I don't really see people burning too many calories using it.
Still I suppose any movement is better than just twiddling a joystick and hitting a few buttons,
thanks for your response,
J

I'm with you jakester. While the Wii is a really good console, I also find it overrated. The reason why most people have this is because of the price unlike the PS3 and the 360. As an avid gamer. I really wouldn't really be bothered by graphics because each game is different. It's just that most people says it's the best because of how you could interact with a Wii game using a remote (or Wiimote). Actually, none of the three leading consoles (Wii, PS3, 360) offer "next-gen" gaming.
