Why did you name your child/ children their names?

I was wondering what comes into a parent to be when they choose a name for their child. Nowadays, many children are given two, three or one name. I got my son's name from my mother's second name which she is not using anymore. She was named Adeluisa and I named my son Louis as in french looking. That was my tribute to her (hey my mom's still alive people!). So how about you? why did you gave your child/children their name/s?

My eldest daughter's name is Thea Angela. The name Thea (which means God), was taken from the names of some cousins, and Angela, because for me, children are angels sent by God. My 2nd child is Tristan Angelo. I wanted them to have similar initials so I named him almost after his elder sister. My 4 year old baby girl is Thea Angelee, which, as you can see, is almost after the name of the eldest too. I like their names a lot! It's so easy for me to call them all at once, and so easy to remember.. "Angela, Angelo and Angelee!".... and instantly they all come!

Wat nice names of your children Paulsy. Well, dont parents usually look at their children when they were born to look like a little chrub so often that Angel is always in soemone's name. That only shows how parents love their children. Most parents also name their kids with same start letter. Nice names for your childrena nd indeed easy to memorize and call them! lols.

My first daughter was named the first thing that popped out of my mouth when they asked me for a name at the hospital. "Andrea" No rhyme or reason. Her middle name "Mae" is from my favorite author, Louisa May Alcott. I spelled it with an "E" because I like to be different. Turns out a relation on my husband's side had the name Mae spelled the same way. LOL. My second daughter, we discussed names beforehand. So Brandi Jo was settled upon before we went to the delivery room. Jo is my favorite character from Little Women written by Louisa May Alcott. My son - is named after his father, and we just call him Junior.

I got 4 children, I lost 1 of them. My children got their names from the month they were born, paired with another with the same first letter. Here goes: 1. Johannes Jules (July 19, 1998) 2. Alessandra Aprielle + (April 19, 2000) 3. Francjezka Feby (February 10, 2003) 4. Schneider Setiem (September 19, 2005) "Septiembre" is spanish for September, we just removed the "p"

Hi Piesmeralda. Well those are nice and unique names and what a nice way to remember the birthday of your children. I like the way you change and make the month name of your children. My son was also given a second name based on the month he was born with - Augusto and it was given by her father. Nice names indeed! Congrats.

When I was pregnant with my first son I knew it was a boy. Didnt have an ultra sound just had that feeling. I loved a show called Pretender. The guys name was Jared Parker. I thought that would be a nice name. My husband told me that his middle name had to be Jordan. All first born boys in the family are Jordan. So we got to thinking and Jared Jorden just didnt fit well so I said what about Parker Jordan? That was it. We both agreed on it and thats what he was named. When I was pregnant with my second son. Same thing I had a feeling it was a boy. We went back and forth with names the whole pregnancy but could never agree on anything. I knew I wanted a P name but my husband didnt like any I picked. Well at 5:30 in the morning on the way to the Hostpital to have a c-section. I looked at him and said Phenix Matthew. He says I like it. I dont know where it came from just poped in my head. Poor baby was to be born in a few hours and finally had a name! Some day I would like to try for a girl. We have a name picked out already but I dont know if well ever use it. We want to name her Porsha Alexis. Who knows maybe someday We will get our Porsha.

My husband chose my son's name when he surfed for it online LOL it means "son/daugher of Matthew or Maude" which is hard to believe because I didn't think the name Madison (which we did name our son) meant that at all.

I cannot speak for myself because I am not a parent yet, but if I may speak in behalf of my parents, thus was how they names us, their children: Both of my parents' names started with JE - my dad's JErosonte and my mom's JEmina. When they named their first-born Jerry (which was my dad's nickname), they thought of not only naming all their children with JE at the start, but the next children should have a double letter name following it. When my mom was pregnant with me, she kept on singing and singing this sad song entitled "Jennifer," so they named me after that. My sister on the other hand was named Jesselyn because she was born in December and my parents derived her name from Jesus, who was born December as well.

I read "War and Peace" when I was pregnant and called my daughter Natasha after one of the main characters in the book. I just really liked the name although I hadn't made a conscious decision to call her that. When the nurse asked me if I had a name for her yet Natasha was the first name that came to mind. It suited her - she looked like a Natasha!

We wanted to give our children individual names that made them stand out from the crowd but not so different that they were made fun of. We discussed lots of names, there were a long list of names that my husband said that I coundn't use - no religious names, irish/ celtic names, royal or names beginning with A or P as they begin our names so it will not be confusing when letters arrive in the future as there are no matching initials - so my choice of names was a little limited!! I was positive that my first child was a boy so no girl names were thought of, and luckily he was - we named him Kade Dudley, we heard the name Cade and liked it but to be different we changed the spelling and Dudley as my husband is from the Midlands and the Lenny Henry thing about "How many miles to Dudley?" was about. It's a good strong name I was convinced that my second child was a girl and had a name picked out and had not even given a boys name any thought - 3 weeks before I was due I ran into an old friend and she told me that I was having a boy ( she has a 100% track record of over 150 babies guessed right ) so I then had to consider boys names - same rules as before only no K names either - We thought of Ward and Rye Dell as Grease was the first film we went to see together then added Ro to the list at the last moment I can't remember where I heard it. But when he arrived we looked at him and decided that if he stopped crying when we walked him it would be Ward or by rocking it would be Ro - he ended up being Ro Dale - Dale for the pub where my husband used to drink - and it sounds a little like Rydell We are trying for another at the moment so will have to go through the whole choice again but at least I have one boys name and one girls name to start the list with

I named each of my 4 children for different reasons. My first was named after her grandmothers. Her first name is after her father's mother,Elizabeth, and her middle is the same as both my middle name and my mother's middle name,Marie. Although I was the third born daughter, I was named after my mother. My second daughter's name I found in a book. When I saw the name January in a book and she was born in January, I named her that. She has never liked it and has gone by Jan most of her life. Her middle name, Rose, is after her father's mother's middle name and an aunt's name. She had an uncle who used to tease and call her "February Dandelion" and she has been asked "Where's February, March and April?" So she has been teased about her name. My third child's name was also from a book, Jared, and his middle name is his father's first name, Ross. It is funny to me that the name Jared is now a popular name when it wasn't then. My youngest is named Rebecca, which is kind of after my youngest sister, Becky, but she has never been Rebecca. She has always been called Becca since her brother never got the "Re" part of her name out of his mouth. Her middle name is Noelle, since she was due on Christmas but was born on the 21st of December but she was induced on the 20th.

I was very close to my grandmother. She was the matriarch of our family. Which in may ways has fallen apart, since her passing. She was my rock. We were friends. My her birthday and mine were the the 3rd and 4th of the same month. So we even celebrateed our birthdays together. To honor her, I named my child after her.

My son's name if Jeffrey and I named him off of a character from All My Children, the soap. Stupid huh, but at the time I just loved that character. My daughter's name is Jennifer but I didn't name her, her father did. I actually wanted to name her Samantha but he hated that name and so I just said to him, then you name her, and he did. I don't know where he got the name from and I didn't ask because at the time it didn't really matter.

I wanted to name my son after his father, but was talked out of it. His dad said he was teased because of his name which was Philippe Charles. So we picked a name of a friend whose friendship we both enjoyed.

Obviously, to be unique and for the child to be recognizable when a parent gets old
