Here is the link below. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,341574,00.html I understand that people pray for healings and I have no problem with that... But their daughter was sick for at least 30 days straight before her death. How long do you wait to take you child to the doctor if praying isn't working? I means seriously the child died because of diabetes which is a serious illness and needs treatment it also said that she hadn't seen a doctor since she was three. You also know it's bad when a realitive calls the police to check on the little girl. I can only imagine how much this girl suffered before she passed. So parents would you have taken your daughter to the doctors or would you have continued to let it run it course? How do you feel about this situation ?(please read article because I didn't add everything!) Should their be more check point in place for kids that haven't been to the doctors in a while?

how can there be such a checkpoint? i mean the child services in our area is so severely overworked that they have no time. do you think these parents should be charged? i also believe in the power of prayer, but God gave you a brain too...

I mean the school should require a yearly physical and if they see that the child is sick they should definitely get in contact with the right people. If the child doesn't go to the school then there should be some other means of a check point. I know CPS is stretched but there has to be a way to monitor things. I do think these parants should be charged with child endangerment and murder. Because they let their daughter suffer for a month and did nothing .. You have to know when something isn't working. Then you have to use some common sense and take you child to the doctor, er or clinic. You can't just hope that it will get better.

that's a good idea check points within the school themselves.

I don' think that there should be checks for children that haven't been to the doctor for X long. They might be perfectly well. But the parents are negligent in my book. However, some people just believe that prayer is enough, and they have lunatic "brethren" that support that notion. This is one of the reasons why I struggle with religion. The intransigence of the "faithful". Personally I would have taken her the moment she looked sicker than I felt comfortable with. I can remember taking my daughter to the ER once, and we waited so long to see a doctor that she got better! So we came home again having discharged her with the nurse. But that says more about British hospitals than my parenting skills.

This is a very sad story indeed. I do wonder how you can stand by and watch someone that you purport to love, and do nothing even though you know that there is lifesaving help available close by.

My Daughter just had the flu and I took her to the doctor on tuesday when she had a temperature of over 100 degrees. I kept a close eye on her for 3 days and then she complained of an ear ache so I took her back to the doctor on saturday and then she got some medicine. When ever our kids our sick we take them to the doctors to see what is wrong with them. I did pray that my daughter would get better but I did not realy soley on that. Our Kids get a check up once a year to see if they are ok.

Yep when my kids are sick off to the doctors we go if it's 2 days or if there is a high fever I'm taking my kids and yep I go for their annual to make sure everything is ok. I may pray to take away the pain help with the fever but I know when there is a time that I have to get off my but and go. This was out right neglect and I feel that something should be done.

That was real STUPID of her parents because I'm a mom of 3 and my kids can't even cough hard without me calling the doctors to an appointment(call me crazy but my kids is my life) My children go to the doctors more then a little bit. And for a child with diabetes theres no reason for her parents to not take her to the doctor. It will cost them more to bury her then to take to the doctor and get her feeling better and educated about her disease(diabetes). I hope they face the penaty for this.

I wonder if her sibling been to the doctors being that they are older to then she was? But still reguardless to just praying sometimes you need to let the doctor help with things that are beyond our control and I feel like this God put people in their lie of work for a reason and sometimes you just need to just let them do their work that they were given the ability(gift)to do to help keep the faith in our prayer. But this is just my opinion I guess this is something I will never understand.

I agree with you all the way I move heaven and earth for kids and pray on the way of getting the help I need for them. There is no reason on god's green earth to sit there and watch your child go through something so much pain and discomfort. I have to end this right now because this is bringing tears to my eyes because she didn't deserve this and I'm letting my opinion cloud my judgement right. I do't know if that is a right thing or not. Thank you for responsing to my opinion and letting me voice my opinion on this discussion.

I don't care if I'm going to burn in the pits of he!! for all eternity for taking my child to the doctor. My child is worth my suffering to save her. Sorry just my opinion. I really just don't understand this. God gave us brains right? I can undrestand praying for guidance and to help the child be able to be healthy and deal with her disease that is treatable is every way and still be able to lead a very good life. But to solely leave it in prayer while you watch your child slowly and painfully die, come on I can't do that I don't have that compacity to even watch my child by in pain with out trying to fix it and make it better. I would have done everything in my power and then some for my child.

A sick child - Needs to see a medical doctor! Prayer is good but a medical doctor may be able to help the child!
I think these idiots, and I'm being nice when I say that, should suffer the same exact fate as their daughter did by giving them insulin. How dare they resort to just prayer when technology is out there to help the child! I don't feel sorry for the parents one bit but I do for the little girl who couldn't fend for herself. I hope these two stupid idiots suffer and get thrown into jail and the key thrown out!

Well I'm a true believer in the doctor, and let alone 30 days of being sick?thats crazy!! I think they should be punished that is neglect any way you put it.How could any mother or father let their child suffer for that long? Ok maybe a couple days and if it isn't getting better, any person with common sense know that.

My rule of thumb is two days if it's minor symptoms major symptoms I take my kid to the doctor but 30 days and only getting worse. here is what she would have been displaying.. http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/common/standard/transform.jsp?requestURI=/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/diabetic_ketoacidosis.jsp http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/library/DS/00674.html

This is absolutely horrible, being a minister, and working with faith and prayer healing myself. I always always say people need to go to their doctors they need to seek and continue medical treatment.. They should never stop medical treatment until they know for sure it's 100% healed, and always seek more than one doctors opinion as some cases are misdiagnosis and it turns out they were fine.... I am not to big on doctors myself.. But when a person is really sick for longer than a couple of days and not getting better.. Take them in get looked at... get blood tested, etc... It is not worth allowing what happened to this little girl to happen to anyone else.... and going to the doctors does not make a person have any less faith... After all.. G-d Helps those who helps themselves... Rev. Dana C. L. - DNatureofDTrain

See this is how most religions are they want you to pray in conjunction with all the treatment that is available to you for your situation. It's stuff like this that tarnishes religion. You are absolutely correct when you say God Helps those who helps themselves. He gave us a brain and free will and knowledge you would think with all that, that people would see that god is giving us the tools we need to make informative decisions. Have a nice one and thanks for your thoughts.

Wow, I mean I am speechless. The parents need to be whipped into reality. Even most people who believe in God would have taken her to the dr THEN would have prayed for her. Unbelievable.

I'm sorry to hear someone gave you a hard time about this. But as we both know, whether we are religious or not, the first thing that should come to everyone's mind is logic!!! The kid is sick, severely sick, take her to the dr... praying alone isn't going to cure her. Get her checked and THEN pray.

I beleive in prayer but these parents should have took their child to the doctor right after she first started having problems. Prayers help but getting treatment is very needed. I can't belive these parents did this to this child.

This is a case of taking faith to the extreme. God can only do so much if you do not take action to make things better. In my humble opinion, god is merely a guide to guide you towards miracles. He does not create them, neither does he make them happen without human intervention. What were these parents thinking?!? If just praying for her health will cure the girl, there would be no more diseases in the world already! All everyone needs to do is pray that all diseases be wipe clean from the face of the earth, and "snap fingers" it will be removed by faith and the power of god! What a bunch of hog wash! Not that I do not believe in god. I do pray from time to time. And I believe that god can only point you in the direction of the miracle. If you are willing to walk the path towards earning that miracle, you will get it. If not, nothing will happen. Sheez! what were these parents thinking?!?

I so agree with you it is negligence on the part of the parents. I do hope the authorities will bring the whole family in for counseling. Especially the parents of the kid. I also pray that the remaining children will not walk in their parent's foot steps and do the same when they have kids of their own. Having faith in a religion is a good thing. But taking it to the extreme is a whole other story altogether.

More importantly than what where they thinking, how could they watch as their daughter was in pain and getting dehydrated and dying. I'm just at a loss for words of what this is.. But it is definitely negligence.

My goodness!! What a horrible way to die. Isn't there a saying "God helps those who help themselves"? How can the parents be so negligible. I wonder why the girl didn't call 911 herself when she found her parents were not going to do anything about it. Even if they still believe that she can be resurrected, I am positive that God will never do such a thing and push this girl back to live with those stupid parents. And why are they not taking away the other children? Waiting for them to catch some disease, are they?

I heard about this sad story on the radio the other night, bellaofchaos. I don't feel that any guidelines should be put into place regarding the overseeing of children's health because we live in a society where all parents, with the exception of a very few, take their children's welfare very seriously. It is automatically assumed that parents will have enough common sense to seek medical attention for their children when it is necessary.

this is absolutely disgusting! i believe in God and i believe in the power of prayer but God also gave us common sense. they should have been praying that the dr's could help heal their child. CPS should be able to help these other children for the simple fact that their parents lack common sense. i am praying to for the other children who are still stuck with thesed idiots!

I agree on hard praying and believing that God will help you in every way... It says that Do what you can do and let God will do the rest Meaning if there's a way that you can do like in that situation,,, their way ofcourse is to bring the child to the hospital.. do it... no matter how hard it is... hold the last hope that you have... if they're situation is really no hope and doctor's are give up then that is the time to let that child go... Maybe God wants her/him to go back to the heaven...

This story broke my heart. As a Christian I too believe in God and believe that God gives us enough wisdom to decide to go to a doctor. I have seen patients recover beyond what medicine can explain - but that is no excuse to ignore medical help. My dad was posted for a slipped disc surgery and the night before the admission he was completely freed from his pain after he prayed for healing. But we still went to the doc to confirm and take the necessary precautions! God gives us healing... yes... with wisdom!

I don't understand how people can think prayer is the first course of action when someone is ill. To me, prayer is what you do when there are no other options left and it's entirely in God's hands whether that person will live or die. To leave a diabetic child without insulin or treatment is indeed negligence. My son gets sick and I'm at the doctor the next day! Praying over him isn't going to do much when he needs an antibiotic. Sometimes I feel like people are still living in the dark ages. What's next? Bleeding people with leeches again to purge illness? Jeez.

Take a look at response 20 they actually mentioned that. (leeches) LOL!!! But seriously you can pray if you believe in the pwer of prayer but you know god gave us brains to use and my brain would have been screaming docot or er or clinic. the poor child and the suffereing she went through. Here's the kicker they didn't remove the other children in the home because there are no signs of abuse! What??????? I would think letting a child die would be considered an abuse of some sort.

For the love of (insert diety of your choice here) if the child is sick and is suffering get her some help .. I was talking to my mom about this and she this. "There is no excuse, except they chose this path BC they believed and it was thier bent on proving thier self to thier Chruch and God at thier daughters life! I am sure God was not impressed!" cut copy and pasted from my email from my mom!!! I think these people need to put in jail and never ever have kids again.

I pity the little girl. But I dont wan't to blame the parents, too. I know it sounds like negligence but perhaps they do have their own beliefs and principles in life and they are entitled to it. It's just that I hope they would realized what the outcome of their beliefs was. They should always have the reason for it. But as I said, its their own belief and I don't think they would ever admit on regretting it. We can't control what other people think and feel.
