its a vaccination developed by merck pharmacueticals which is supposed to prevent genital warts (caused by virus).
Certain strains of genital warts are associated with later development of cervical cancer.
The long term view is to immunize girls and boys beginning at age 8; it'll be part of the standard immunizations, such as MMR, etc.

Yes! Would you allow your children to have the hpv vaccine?

i think so... i actaully wasn't aware that people didn't give their children vaccines ... i still need to earn about the risks or downsides i guess...but if i could prevent my son from contracting it and passing it along to a girl who could develop cancer from it, then yes definately, i would like to have my son immunized too. I definately want this vaccine as well

There's a big campaign on television now promoting the benefits of hpv immunizations.

Absolutely because my little sister who is only 20 is having to face a lot of doctor visits, etc because she had HPV that developed into Cervical Cancer, and now because she's so young, they only want to do small things to remove the cancerous areas and not go through surgery because she's only 20. They don't want to take drastic measures for fear that she may want children later. I would absolutely recommend it to any female that expects to be sexually active in the future. Men don't take care of themselves like they should, so we have to.

I'm glad your little sister has quality medical care, and a loving supportive big sister like you. My youngest child is 20, and I would be heartbroken if this happened to her.

unfortunatley I can not take the vaccine being as though I already have HPV. I was 16 years old when I first found out that I had contracted the infection. The doctor told me I had one of the kinds that could potentially but was unlikely to become cervical cancer. All I could think of was " How can you tell me that I could get cancer but I shouldnt worry. Regardless of how minor the chances may be I might get cancer" I was so upset for days. It never gets easier to tell someone " Hey I'm sick" but it does help to get through it. When I do decide to have childrn my daughter(God willing I have one) will get the vaccine. How could not want them to have it.

yeah... i felt sick to my stomach after learning i had it...its a scarey thing, and would definately want to protect my children from contracting and/or spreading it. all it takes is a little ignorance or laziness... and its out there..
