Profanity on MyLot

I just happened to visit a few of my friend's profile pages to leave some uplifting comments like I often do. I came away from the last one shaken up by a comment that I found there. Someone had left a comment on this young woman's page that contained the "F" word at least once in every line(about 10). This shocked me so badly that I became distracted to the point that I made a mistake in trying to retrieve my comment. When did myLot start allowing such behavior? I think it is shameful, and I am wondering if the person knows of the comment that has been placed on her page.

I was lead to believe that these words were not allowed and if you typed in a swear word by mistake you were told that you had used a word which broke t&c's, unless when you message someone or leave a comment this doesn't happen, obviously not! There is no need for that type of language and I hope it is reported as it's totally unacceptable, it's a family site and anyone could read that message as indeed you did, and yes it's very shameful and there is absolutely NO excuse for that.

Wow, that's awful! I hope you were able to inform your friend of this, I know I don't check my profile nearly often enough and something like that could be on mine for days and day before I'd know.
It's probably not something mylot can detect. I've gotten comments off other sites that didn't have the actual words within the code. If that was the case with this one the system couldn' have known to block it.

I visit a few comment sites, foxyfire, and I must say that I've never came across anything even close to this vulgarity.

I bet she doesn't, I know that I don't check mine very often. I agree, I thought that was not acceptable on here.

I am not familiar with the person who posted the comment, Thoroughrob, but it is not acceptable and I don't think she knew of it.

I did not think that MyLot did condone such language.
I mean, we get "carded" for Mature Content for simple things as names and discussions about chicken and such.
The person probably does not know. if it were me, I would PM the person to let them know.

I know that it definitely isn't allowed, mummymo. I have to guess that it somehow got past the censors.

You can rest your mind, carmelanirel, because it was not your page. I think this woman did not know the language or just hasn't visited her page.

Well, like I said, I went right away to check and was relieved it wasn't my page..I can't remember, did you contact your friend and see what she had to say about it?

Well, weemam, there seem to be a at least one person here that thinks I'm an old fuddy-duddy because I was offended by the language, but I really was.

no that is not allowed and anyone can report that so mylot can ban that person from the site. So sorry that you ran across that it really is not a fun thing to run into. You are a nice friend to be sending out nice uplifting comments like that...maybe you should be my friend too lord knows I can use uplifting from time to time.

That's what friends are for, sanell, and I would like to be your friend! As I stated, so many myLotters do not have a good grasp of the language that she could have not known it was offensive.

I have recently gotten into the habit of checking my profile regularly, gabs. Maybe it's because I can now enjoy my music when I'm there.

I did exactly that, winterose, and if someone has a problem with me for doing it, too bad.

under the discussion when you answer it you have + - abuse,
it is the abuse toggle switch
a box will come up and you right why you feel this discussion or even this commenter is abusive.
for the other question,
I think it is account preferences on the left hand side of your home page, under your user name and picture

I thought mylot was stricter on these guidlines. That is disturbing. This site is very high quality and profanity should not be allowed on this, I mean censoring profanity is one thing if you reply to a post but... should not be allowed otherwise.

This is one of the reasons I took the whole comment sortie off my profile page. Between rude comments and people putting all kinds of referral links I couldn't take it any more. It makes me sad that I can't get comments any more from my good friends like you but there are a lot of nasty people here and I hope your friend reported the loser.

I understand why you did what you did, ctry, but I will miss leaving the occasional comment on your page. Still, there are other ways to let someone know you care. I took it upon myself to report this blatant disregard for the rules.

I am still new here and didin't realize you could put a comment there. I don't often check my profile and have only looked at a clouple of others. Needless
to say I have been told I use the F word much to much in my life. However I am careful not to use it here and try to curb my enthusiam when it might be offensive
to those around me.

I'm not a bit surprised this happens. The "F" word is now so commonly used. Almost everyone I come in contact uses the word and I think nothing of it. It's just part of the vocabulary in this time and age. I'm not defending the person who left the comment on the profile page.
It could be that myLot doesn't take the time to review profiles? The person who posted the comment should have known better. This is a widely read site with much participation and there is such a thing as respect especially when it involves people from all walks of life and various countries.

They may or may not know about the comment. I never visit my profile page to see if I have comments from friends. don't you have to be a friend to leave a message? If so, the you8ng woman either knows that is how that person talks or she can report them herself.

That's not cool! I guess if you want to curse at someone, keep it in a PM but, not on their profile page. Unless she doesn't care. Did you call her attention to it in a PM to her? And, as far as a curse word. Was it actually the F word or a replacement, less offensive F word like "freakin or Frackin'"
People should be more respectful of what other people might read here.
I am no prude. I can sometimes drop the f bomb in my life off of myLot...but not here. I am sensitive to what others might think.
I would PM her and ask her if she noticed it was there. I sometimes go for days before I visit my profile page. I went for a week once and didn't notice someone had left me a comment until I made a visit to my profile page and saw it there. So, she may just rarely visit her own page. Try calling her attention to it and see what she says. She can delete it herself or, maybe she just doesn't care! It could be an inside joke best left inside that made itself outside! Who knows?

I'm not a prude either, cortjo, in any sense of the word, and I can hold my own with the best of them when it comes to talking down and dirty, but this forum is not the place for that. The myLotter who posted that offensive comment didn't just dance around the actual word -it's there for anyone to see should they visit the page. I felt that admin should be advised about the situation.

myLot should had the facility for us to delete the comment we didnot want. The only things to do if we did get cude comment or spam ones i by removing the comment section. But its a pity cause sometimes people leave nice comment or picture there. :D
