How often ......

fridge - Cleaning the fridge out.

How often do you go in your kitchen and clean out the fridge from top to bottom? I don't mean just throwing away the left overs, I mean actually getting in there and scrubbing it clean. I find if I do this on a weekly basis it helps to keep things from getting built up in the bottom of it. Recently I made a jug of tea and put it in the fridge, I noticed it dripping and promptly removed it from the fridge only to find that it had a small crack in the bottom of it. So I started yanking everything out and cleaned out the fridge again. It's amazing how much stuff actually gets under the crisper drawers.

i had that happen with pickled eggs and beets. i made them before bed and the next morning got up to a frig that stunk so bad of beet juice and vinger. i do the once a week thing too. it makes it so much easier. if you wait you really need to scub but doing it weekly really all i have to do is spray and wipe down.

Oh my -- I probably only do this every six months or so! I know I should do it more often, but I don't. When I do I tend to find lots of interesting things, such as foods so old they are growing their own colony. Needless to say, I usually get a little sickened immediately after this! Would someone like to come clean my fridge?? PLEASE?! :D

LMAO You sound just like my mom when you say they are growing their own colony. She is the same way. Her fridge always drives me nuts when I go for a visit. If you lived closer I'm sure I would come clean it because I don't want to know what science experiment would be growing next! *LOL* Thanks for responding!

I do a thorough cleaning maybe 3 - 4 times a year, but I keep spills wiped up and swipe at the shelves whenever I see there's something on them. Whenever there's a spill, I pull the crispers out and clean the bottom and empty and wash them.

Yes a thorough cleaning is good. I actually pull everything out including the shelves about 3 times a year. It's just sometimes you don't notice that there are things dripping until the next visit to the fridge and then you have a bigger mess to clean up. Thanks for the response!

I am a little ashamed to admit it. I haven't done it in so long I don't remember. It usually happens when I have a major spill. I really should do it. Maybe this weekend or when h*ll freezes over....

Do you think if h*ll freezes over they will begin selling ice water?? I was always told and people in h*ll want ice water. Maybe I could get rich selling it then. *LOL* Sorry to hear it's been so long you don't remember though. Thanks for the response!

The fridge gets a real once over every couple of months but it gets the weekly scrub too! I hate it when things drip (usually from the top of the fridge) and it usually something wonderfully sticky so that everything is contaminated with it. I had that with an OJ carton, it drove me mad. I could see that something was dripping but I couldn't find it and then, there it was, coagulating at the top of the crisper drawers.. .groan. I had a wonderful wooden salad bowl and I loved it. One day I made a huge salad and as we didn't finish it I covered it with cling-film and put it in the fridge. Next day the bottom of the fridge was covered with balsamic vinegar... I had to throw the lovely bowl away :( As you say, it is at times like these that you realise you have bought tons of things which you haven't used and that they are now stuck at the bottom of the crisper units. I HATE having to chuck things away.

I hate having to throw anything away as well. Seems like a waste, esp if it's something good. Thanks for your comment!

I just bought a new refrigerator, because my old one decided that it didn't want to be cold anymore, and started blowing hot air. LOL So now it's all pretty and organized. I do try to wipe it out completely every 2 weeks or so. If something spills i clean it immediately.
